Engerman — Frets et mortalite dans la traite negriere vers Rio de Janeiro, 1825-1830 . Une analyse systematique des documents maritimes et commerciaux pour cette periode permet d'etablir non seulement les points d'origine des esclaves et leur importance numerique relative, mais encore la mortalite en cours de route. Par rapport a la situation a la fin du XVIIIe siecle, l'importance de l'Afrique orientale comme source d'approvisionnement a considerablement augmente, de meme que la capacite moyenne des navires en provenance d'Afrique orientale. La mortalite — bien que particulierement elevee sur les navires en provenance du Mozambique — est tombee de 9,5 a 7,1 %. Elle semble liee a la fois a la duree du trajet, aux conditions climatiques et, pour l'Afrique occidentale, a l'origine des esclaves. Les materiaux disponibles ne suffisent cependant pas a une etude approfondie de la rentabilite de la traite.","PeriodicalId":45837,"journal":{"name":"CAHIERS D ETUDES AFRICAINES","volume":"15 59 1","pages":"381-98"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2017-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44569856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
