I present another possible datum to explain a rhetorical argument that unfolds in Isa 1:21–28 through the addition of the later supplement in vv. 29–31, namely the shift in Jerusalem from being labeled a »faithful city« to an »unfaithful city«. In light of the political grounding of the passage, the historical backdrop of the intermittent Assyrian practice of changing the toponyms of subjugated cities becomes more transparently important for unlocking the meaning and significance of this passage.","PeriodicalId":45627,"journal":{"name":"ZEITSCHRIFT FUR DIE ALTTESTAMENTLICHE WISSENSCHAFT","volume":"135 1","pages":"211 - 229"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49579875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"哲学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For all the proposed foreign and intra-Biblical parallels, the policy was purely pragmatic and can be understood as a recognizable strategy from ancient texts that recommend procedures during a siege. Therefore when the siege is temporarily lifted, the policy is reversed.","PeriodicalId":45627,"journal":{"name":"ZEITSCHRIFT FUR DIE ALTTESTAMENTLICHE WISSENSCHAFT","volume":"135 1","pages":"278 - 283"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46225509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"哲学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
