The method of discrete elements is important because of the possibility of preparing completely similar specimens and examining the effect of changes in a certain parameter on the Behavior of the specimens. This method also provides an understanding of the changes that have occurred at the micro-scale of granular materials that are not achievable with other laboratory and numerical methods. To model the specimens, a set of disks with specific granulation has been used for two-dimensional studies. PFC 2D software has been used to perform simulations and related analyzes such as interparticle force. The DEM code in MATLAB is used to check the wave depreciation. In this research, the optimization process was performed using experimental data and the Taguchi method using the DEM method. The results of this study show that there is a direct relationship between the number of particle set contacts and the wave propagation speed. Also, material properties such as particle density are the most important parameters affecting wave velocity. The results of the method (DEM) are done with PFC 2D software and a comparison between the results of this method with the solution methods used by other researchers is shown to be a good match.","PeriodicalId":45463,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Computational Mechanics","volume":"1 1","pages":"393–416-393–416"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2021-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44459992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A direct fluid-structure coupling method based on finite element analysis is proposed and validated by modal simulation of an oil filled T-shape pipe. An innovative way of modeling steel-wire-reinforced rubber pipe is put forward. The modeling method is validated by modal test of the water-filled pipe. The 2nd Mooney-Rivlin constitutive model is used for the rubber material. Transient dynamic simulations of a bending steel-wire-reinforced pipe filled with water under step and sine-shape pressure impact are performed for the first time. Different fluid turbulence models are used to evaluate the influences on pipe vibration. The dynamic characteristics of the water filled flexible pipe is researched under different fluid pressures. The vibration peak frequencies of the water-filled pipe under various impact excitations coincide well with the fluid-structure coupling modes of the pipe.","PeriodicalId":45463,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Computational Mechanics","volume":"1 1","pages":"363–392-363–392"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2021-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43571738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper evaluates how different frequencies (100, 200, 300, 400 and 500) rad/s applied to air velocity view a lot of improvements in the combustion and flow variables (v, T, NO and turbulent kinetic energy) and the effect of adding cross excess air to air pulsation with 500 rad/s frequency on the same flow variables. The performance of pulsating flames was numerically modulated by using Ansys Fluent 16 commercial package by building a 2D combustion chamber of Harwell standard furnace boundary condition on Ansys geometry and divided it into 61000 elements in Ansys meshing 16. Eddy Dissipation Model (EDM) is used to solve transient numerical combustion equations and Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) as viscous model. Converged numerical results have shown that increasing frequency from 100 to 500 rad/s increase average velocities of combustion products and turbulent kinetic energy by 22% and 80 respectively. The pollutant NO decrease by 60% and the time average temperature decrease from 1900 k to 1000 k.","PeriodicalId":45463,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Computational Mechanics","volume":"1 1","pages":"279–302-279–302"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2021-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45796279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the great influences of the graphene sheet’s geometry on resonance frequency, circular defects could effect on expected results of sensors. Circular holes in circular graphene sheets (CGSs) have been modeled with molecular dynamics (MD) simulation in the present work. Then the vibration behavior of intact circular plate and circular sheet with the circular defect has been investigated using frequency-domain analysis (FDD). Furthermore, for validating the used method, the obtained natural frequencies for different graphene sheets have been compared with acquired data in former research. The result of validation showed the accuracy of the used method in this study. The results indicated that by increasing the hole size, the natural frequency of a defected sheet with free edges will be diminished, and with simply-supported interior boundary conditions typically went up. Also, by increasing the hole’s eccentricity, the natural frequency of the defected graphene sheet will be diminished when the hole boundary was subjected to simply-support or free condition.","PeriodicalId":45463,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Computational Mechanics","volume":"1 1","pages":"199–222-199–222"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2021-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49577539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The non-uniform thickness of the film is assumed with a quadratic profile. The problem is categorized under the topic of structural stability and the eigenvalue problem corresponding with the ODE of the system is solved. For the free-standing film, the buckling loads and mode shapes are derived analytically through a closed-form solution. For the substrate-bonded film with a finite length, the uniaxial wrinkling of the film is investigated by using a series solution and a finite difference method and the wrinkling load and wrinkling pattern are characterized. Unlike the wrinkling of thin films with uniform thickness in which the wrinkles propagate along the entire span, it is shown that for the non-uniform film wrinkles are localized near the location with a minimum thickness along the length span; and the wrinkling accumulation is very sensitive to the thickness variations. Therefore, this work is expected to increase the insight into the localization of the wrinkles in thin film-substrate systems in engineering, industry and medical science.","PeriodicalId":45463,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Computational Mechanics","volume":"1 1","pages":"255–278-255–278"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2021-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44836733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present contribution addresses several known challenges including mechanical behaviour and porosity analysis on directed energy deposition (DED) manufactured stainless steel 316L components. The experimental methodology consisting of metal deposition procedure, hardness testing and fractographic observations on manufactured mini-tensile test samples is described. A ductile fracture material model based on the Rousselier damage criterion is utilized within a FE framework for evaluation of material global response and determination of initial porosity value representing the structure’s nucleating void population. Alternatively, the initial pore sizes are characterized using the generalized mixture rule (GMR) analysis and the validity of the approach is examined against the experimental results.","PeriodicalId":45463,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Computational Mechanics","volume":"1 1","pages":"223–254-223–254"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2021-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49528788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By invoking to the uniform and non-uniform meshing, the deformation and the stress results are calculated and compared with the analytical solutions. In this paper, different methods to optimize stacking sequence of these cylinders are investigated. A finite element model is proposed in order to predict critical buckling pressure and the results are validated with previous experimental data. Theoretical analysis based on NASA SP‐8007 solution and the simplified equation for cylinder buckling of ASME RD-1172 are presented and discussed. The results of theoretical and finite element analysis and experimental tests are compared for both glass and carbon epoxy cylinders. Using NASA and ASME formulations, optimal laminations of cylinders in order to maximize buckling pressure, are obtained by genetic algorithm method. Suggested laminations and the values of corresponding critical buckling pressure calculated by finite element analysis, are presented and compared in various states. Obtained results show that while predicted buckling loads of finite element analysis are reliable, NASA formulation can be used in a very cost-effective method to optimize the buckling problems.","PeriodicalId":45463,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Computational Mechanics","volume":"1 1","pages":"115–138-115–138"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2020-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43221981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
