{"title":"Las aguas subterráneas del Parque Nacional de la Sierra de Guadarrama.","authors":"J. Yélamos","doi":"10.21701/bolgeomin.130.4.009","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21701/bolgeomin.130.4.009","url":null,"abstract":"The Guadarrama Range National Park covers about 1000 km 2 of the highest areas of this mountain range in the provinces of Madrid and Segovia. The most abundant lithologies are igneous and metamorphic rocks (hard rocks) except in the sedimentary basin in the High Valley of Lozoya. These rocks are practically impervious but can host small local, shallow and low-resource aquifers by processes of surface alteration, fracturing, and recent deposits of small size such as colluviums, alluviums, moraines and talus cones. Works on the tunnel for the high speed train that crosses beneath the Park, confirm the almost null permeability in depth but show the possibility of the existence of a deep flow through the set of discontinuities within the rock massif that may correspond to the model proposed by Toth in the 1960s. Limestone in the Lozoya basin give rise to a water table and karstic aquifer, which has been somewhat forgotten in previous hydrogeological studies, but it has water points with flow at rates of tens L/s. In spite of the poor water resources of hard rocks, local aquifers have played a significant role in the drinking water supply to localities in the area, enabling recreational activities with drinking fountains throughout the Park, supplying water to the livestock, and playing a key ecological role in maintaining water bodies during the summer. Sus relaciones filogeneticas han sido largamente discutidas, para dar solucion a este problema se ha llevado a cabo un analisis filogenetico, con nuevos datos y usando una moderna propuesta filogenetica (Carballido et al., 2017). Los caracteres de Galvesaurus se han codificado basandose en la redescripcion de los restos publicados y en la descripcion de dos fosiles ineditos: el coracoides derecho y un fragmento del pubis derecho. Los resultados del analisis inducen a proponer la inclusion de Galvesaurus en el clado Titanosauriformes, como taxon hermano de Lusotitan, y siendo incluidos ambos dentro de Brachiosauridae. Asi mismo, se ha realizado un estudio estratigrafico que situa el yacimiento de Galvesaurus en la parte baja de la Formacion Villar del Arzobispo, asignandole al sauropodo una edad Kimmeridgiense superior-Titoniense inferior. EnglishGalvesaurus herreroi is a sauropod from the Villar del Arzobispo Formation (late Kimmeridgian-early Tithonian), from the municipality of Galve (Teruel). Its phylogenetic relations have been long debated, so we carried out a phylogenetic analysis, using a new data matrix recently published by Carballido et al. (2017). The characters of Galvesaurus were coded on the basis of the redescription of the published remains and the description of two unpublished fossils: a right coracoid and a fragment of the right pubis. The results of the analysis suggest the inclusion of Galvesaurus in the clade Titanosauriformes, as a sister taxon to Lusotitan, these two taxa form part of the Brachiosauridae clade. Sin embargo, existe una importante carencia de informacion integrada sobre el tema, con respecto a lo geologico, lo economico, lo ambiental y lo social. Como consecuencia de todo ello, se ha desarrollado una fuerte oposicion publica que ha paralizado la exploracion y la posible explotacion de dicho recurso. Los cambios que exige el futuro en la busqueda de fuentes de energia menos contaminantes y la necesidad de adquirir una posicion estrategica en el sector energetico, hacen ineludible permitir la investigacion y exploracion de este recurso en Espana. Por ello, este trabajo pretende mostrar el panorama actual que rodea al gas natural en un contexto de “transito” a energias menos agresivas con el medio ambiente, como se realiza su extraccion (gas de lutita) y, como deberia llevarse a cabo en Espana con los problemas que ello conllevaria, asi como analizar la respuesta y preocupacion de la ciudadania frente a el desarrollo de esta tecnologia. EnglishThe change to an energy model with lower carbon footprint sources, and the development of the corresponding technologies and extraction techniques has placed shale gas in the spotlight as it is a less polluting resource and it is abundant in the north of Spain. This energy model could be able to supply, to a large extent, the current energy needs of the country. However, there is a relevant lack of information on the subject regarding geological, economic, environmental and social issues. Consequently, a strong public opposition has developed, that has so far paralyzed the exploration and potential exploitation of these resources. The future changes required in the search for less polluting energy sources and the need to acquire a strategic position in the energy sector make it essential to allow both research into this resource and its exploration in Spain. Therefore, this study aims to show the current situation of natural gas in a “transitory” context towards less aggressive energies to the environment as well as to explain how shale gas is produced and how extraction should be carried out in Spain with the problems that this would entail. Este conjunto se ha inventariado y estudiado recientemente. Una parte importante de los ejemplares presentes estan relacionados con el trabajo de Mallada como miembro de la Comision del Mapa Geologico y proceden de localidades en las que actualmente es imposible obtener muestras de este tipo e incluso algunos de ellos pueden considerarse unicos. La puesta en valor de estos ejemplares representa un aporte importante a la historia de la geologia espanola y a la mineralogia topografica de nuestro pais. EnglishThe Faculty of Human Sciences and Education of Huesca preserves a remarkable collection of geological materials, mainly minerals, that belonged to Lucas Mallada and that was donated in 1925 to its predecessor institution, the Normal School of Teachers, by the heirs of this geologist. This collection has been recently inventoried and studied. An important part of the specimens are related to the work of Mallada as a member of the Geological Map Commission and come from localities where it is currently impossible to obtain samples of this type and some of them can even be considered unique. Incluso en la actualidad se plantean incertidumbres con respecto a su compartimentacion interna a nivel hidrogeologico. A partir de un profundo analisis estructural sobre el origen y formacion de las estructuras sedimentarias que hoy constituyen los niveles permeables de la MASb, se ha correlacionado el modelo tectonico resultante con la hidrogeologia de la MASb Sierra de Altomira en general, y con su posible compartimentacion interna en particular. El modelo estructural obtenido ha permitido distinguir diferentes zonas que, a escala local, presentan un comportamiento hidrogeologico diferente. La compartimentacion propuesta se realiza a nivel regional, diferenciando dos grandes bloques estructurales: septentrional, meridional y, una escala mayor, con la definicion de la Unidad Hidrogeologica Basica (UHB) como unidad minima divisible en la que se identifican todos los componentes del modelo hidrogeologico conceptual. Esta division supone un importante punto de partida para la posterior interpretacion del funcionamiento hidrogeologico local de la MASb Sierra de Altomira, si bien esta propuesta requiere de estudios complementarios para un mejor conocimiento de su hidrodinamica. EnglishFrom the definition of the first aquifer systems in the Sierra de Altomira to the current division in groundwater bodies (GWB), the aquifers defined in this zone have undergone constant changes in their extension and conceptual hydrogeological model. Even today there are uncertainties regarding its internal compartmentation at the hydrogeological level. From a deep structural analysis on the origin and formation of the sedimentary structures that today constitute the permeable levels of the GWB, the resulting tectonic model has been correlated with the hydrogeology of the Sierra de Altomira GWB in general, and with its possible internal compartmentalization in particular. The final structural model has allowed us to distinguish different zones, with repercussions in the local hydrogeology. This has identified sectors with different hydrogeological behaviour. The proposed compartmentation is done at different levels, from the two large northern and southern structural blocks, to the definition of the basic hydrogeological unit (BHU) as a minimum divisible unit in which all the components of the hydrogeological conceptual model are identified. Por otra parte, su descubrimiento requiere de una etapa de exploracion que esta inherentemente asociada con los riesgos y los costes. Sin embargo, al minimizar los gastos de exploracion, podemos de esta manera aumentar la eficiencia de los recursos. Una forma segura de que esto se logre consiste en evaluar continuamente y durante la exploracion, las probabilidades de alcanzar nuestras metas economicas. Para este proposito, se necesitan calculos economicos de orden de magnitud, utilizando reglas generales o aproximadas (“rules of thumb”). Asi, para estimar los costos operativos y de inversion, se supone la capacidad de una supuesta explotacion, permitiendo siempre el uso de las economias de escala. Un ejemplo es que, con el aumento de la capacidad de produccion, los costes operativos por tonelada disminuyan, mientras que los costes de capital aumentan. Para un deposito mineral dado, en la estimacion de capacidades y, al mismo tiempo, de la vida util de una mina, se aplica ampliamente una regla llamada “Regla de Taylor”, formulada en 1977. En 2009, Long propuso una nueva relacion entre las reservas y las capacidades de extraccion minera, observando que, a lo largo del tiempo, pero especialmente en los dos ultimos siglos del milenio pasado, la industria minera internacional experimento una tendencia hacia el aumento de las capacidades de produccion. Long separo las minas con explotaciones a cielo abierto y subterraneas con “block caving” (ambas con las mayores capacidades de produccion), de las minas subterraneas convencionales que, en general, poseen menores capacidades. En este documento, empleando nuestras propias reglas empiricas, examinamos que influencia tienen estos dos enfoques en la evaluacion de la economia de una mina, tomando la tasa interna de retorno (TIR) como nuestro criterio de viabilidad economica. El resultado general es que, al pasar de las capacidades segun Taylor a las capacidades segun Long, los resultados de las evaluaciones economicas de las reglas generales varian significativamente. Cuando las recomendaciones de Long y Taylor se probaron con ejemplos reales de minas activas (desde 2012 o mas adelante), o bien en proyectos que se encontraban en la etapa de desarrollo o de viabilidad, encontramos un acuerdo relativamente bueno entre los datos del mundo real y las relaciones de Long. Por lo tanto, recomendamos que, en las evaluaciones economicas predictivas de proyectos en la etapa de exploracion, se use el metodo de Long en lugar de la regla de Taylor. El estudio muestra que debido al progreso tecnologico, la relacion entre capacidad y reservas debe reexaminarse periodicamente. La volatilidad de los precios de los metales en el tiempo, hace que el rigor del analisis sea algo fundamental, y en el, se introduciran, tanto los condicionantes fisicos o geologicos que van a caracterizar las posibilidades de aplicacion tecnologica, como de un estudio muy cuidadoso de las variables economico-financieras que caracteriza la posicion competitiva del proyecto de la empresa minera. Como ejemplo de todo esto se presenta un caso de inversion en una de las principales companias productoras de cobre del mundo, Antofagasta PLC y se describen las bases del analisis efectuado con el fin de conseguir resultados eficientes. EnglishThe analysis of an investment project in mining requires not only the physical or geological knowledge of the project (the first phase of the project) but also the economic conditions where it operates. The price volatility of metals prices makes the rigour of the analysis fundamental, and both physical and geological conditions should be included in the analysis that will characterize the possibilities of technological application, as well as a very careful study of the economic-financial variables that characterize the competitive position of the project and the mining company. Tambien se realiza una sintesis de los proyectos de exploracion y explotacion mas relevantes a nivel internacional, producciones anuales, reservas, etc. incidiendo en los principales problemas actuales de este mercado y su potencial evolucion. Nos hemos centrado unicamente en el grafito natural, a pesar de que el sintetico tiene un mayor campo de aplicacion para algunos usos de alto valor anadido y ha sufrido un incremento muy importante de los precios estos ultimos anos debido a las medidas anticontaminacion arbitradas por el gobierno chino. Ademas, se ha realizado una investigacion de las caracteristicas de los yacimientos e indicios de grafito existentes en Espana, su situacion actual y sus posibilidades de desarrollo futuro. Para ello se realiza una revision de los indicios mas relevantes conocidos y se aportan nuevos datos sobre algunos de los yacimientos mas significativos. EnglishThis study offers an overview of the current situation of the international graphite market, focused on the products and final uses of this metal as well as on the recent evolution of prices and expectations of its future evolution. There is also a synthesis of the most relevant international exploration and production projects, annual productions, reserves, etc. influencing the main current problems of this market and its potential evolution. We have focused only on natural graphite, although synthetic graphite has an important field of application for some uses of high added value and has experienced a very significant increase in prices in the recent years due to the anti-pollution measures arbitrated by the Chinese government. Este articulo, en parte basado en otras publicaciones del autor, analiza la inversion minera como un proceso escalonado de decision bajo incertidumbre y riesgo y propone un modelo metodologico global para la gestion de riesgo en la cadena de valor del proyecto, con foco en la cuantificacion del riesgo y la optimizacion del valor anadido. El articulo incluye un caso de estudio en el que se valida el modelo mediante su aplicacion a un yacimiento de cobre en Chile. EnglishQuantifying risks associated to mining investment decisions is a key challenge for the mineral industry executives and investors. However, risk analysis in most bankable mine feasibility studies is based on stochastic modelling of the net present value (NPV) of a project which, in most cases, fails to quantify risk associated to uncertainty on technical and management variables of the project and, as a result, are of little use for feasibility decision taking. This paper is, in part, based on the author’s publications, discusses mining investment as stepwise decision process under uncertainty and risk and proposes a global methodological model for the management of risk throughout the project value chain, focusing on risk quantification and value-added optimization.
