This cross-sectional study assessed the levels of knowledge and attitudes of Iranian nursing students regarding COVID-19 to determine their educational needs and take the necessary measures for their readiness. A total of 302 nursing students completed a valid and reliable researcher-made questionnaire through a web-based survey to collect data. 54% were women among the participants, and 51.32% were over 20. The mean (SD = standard deviation) scores of knowledge and attitudes were 17.99 (SD = 5.26) and 3.68 (SD = 1.15), respectively. According to the classification of total knowledge score, the unsatisfactory, satisfactory, and excellent levels were 55.30%, 18.50%, and 26.20%, respectively. The knowledge levels of nursing care for COVID-19 patients, sampling method for diagnostic purposes, medications used during COVID-19 treatment, and the clinical course of COVID-19 were thus lower than other issues. The mean score of attitudes was also 3.68 (SD = 1.15), representing the nursing students’ positive attitudes towards caring for COVID-19 patients. The results of the Spearman correlation coefficient between knowledge and attitude about COVID-19 showed a significant positive relationship between the total knowledge and attitude scores (r = 0.23, p < 0.001). Therefore, given the knowledge levels, particularly the unsatisfactory level in nursing care for COVID-19 patients, and the relatively positive attitudes towards this condition, it is helpful to implement training programs to improve the nursing students’ knowledge and clinical skills. Participants (N = 203) were recruited from the island of Ireland (mean age = 37.7 years, ± 13.2) and completed an online questionnaire including measures of resilience, hope, gratitude, empathy, depression, stress, anxiety and the subjective distress of COVID-19. A four-step hierarchical regression model was applied. Resilience showed positive significant correlations with gratitude, hope and empathy. Age, gender, presence/absence of a chronic health condition (CHC) and country of residence were not predictors of the subjective distress of COVID-19. Resilience and empathy were a negative and a positive predictor of the subjective distress respectively, while gratitude and hope had no predictive value in this model. Upon adding depression, stress and anxiety, the explained variance in scores of the distress of COVID-19 increased considerably from 16% to 55%. Individuals who experience higher levels of depression and anxiety without necessarily the presence of a CHC and regardless of age, gender, and country of residence, may be more susceptible to experience the subjective distress of COVID-19. These findings can be used to inform the design and delivery of PPIs either as a public health prevention measure or as a treatment programme within a broader context of a public mental health promotion strategy to tackle the psychological impact of this pandemic in adults of the general population.","PeriodicalId":45149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Health Promotion and Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43687317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Forty children (20 children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and 20 without NDDs), aged 4–9 years, as well as 35 of these children’s parents (30–50 years old) participated in the study in Greece. All individuals watched 5 educational videos, designed and produced by the Super Grand League Team. Each video had a mean duration of 15 minutes. Most children had no prior knowledge neither in stroke symptoms nor to the appropriate actions after a stroke. Children’s knowledge of stroke symptoms (except the symptom of speech disturbance) and the appropriate actions following stroke improved significantly immediately post training (p < 0.05). Children with NDDs demonstrated no significant differences when compared to their peers without NDDs in regards to the knowledge gains. In the same line, parents showed a significant increase in their knowledge as regards the stroke symptoms (p < 0.001). Only 2 parents (5.7%) knew the correct emergency number before participating in the online programme, while all of them (100%) responded correctly after the programme. The current work using multimodal remote education demonstrates significant improvement in learning about stroke symptomatology and the necessary steps that need to follow. Future work should evaluate the impact of digital interventions in respect of onset-to-door times and stroke outcomes.","PeriodicalId":45149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Health Promotion and Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47679072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this paper is to explore the lay navigators’ learning experience as reflected in their journals and present implications for education and health promotion practice. Sixty-six journal entries from two navigators were analysed. To code the data, we used a newly developed framework based upon the theory-informed lay navigator training programme. Five unique themes were identified: 1) Gaining and Building Trust, 2) Developing Empathy, 3) Experiencing Hope and Optimism, 4) Feeling Helplessness and 5) Celebrating Gains and Successes. The five themes identified paint a sequential picture of the journey of leading individuals from primary care to health and social community resources. This innovative approach has expanded our understanding of how navigators learn in practice, more specifically how they learn from patients and how they develop knowledge and skills in person-centered care. Incorporating reflective journaling as a regular practice provides situational awareness and leads to enhanced learning. Practising person-centered care also develops when a trusting and empathetic relationship is established.","PeriodicalId":45149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Health Promotion and Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48639524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Achieving the SDGs requires every party to take part, including university students. This study aimed to identify knowledge, perceptions, and awareness about the SDGs among students at a public university in Indonesia. An online survey was conducted in 14 faculties and 2 schools at a public university in Indonesia. A total of 138 students from 3 clusters – health, science, and social sciences – participated. Descriptive analysis was used in exploring knowledge, perceptions, and awareness of the SDGs among students from different disciplines. Of the total respondents, 76.8% had good knowledge about the SDGs, and 73.9% had a positive perception towards the SDGs. However, 42.0% of the students were not aware of the SDGs. This study recommends appropriate individual- and population-level educational programs about the SDGs that should be conducted in university settings. Finally, curricular adjustment is essential.","PeriodicalId":45149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Health Promotion and Education","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48203424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
