An exploratory method was applied to collect data related to the editorial timeline through archival open access to the articles published in DJLIT during the period from 2012 to 2020. Data were tabulated in an Excel spreadsheet to facilitate statistical analysis and interpretation. The study finds a mean and median waiting time of approximately 176 days and 152 days respectively for articles before they got published. About 64.57 percent of articles went through revision. The majority of articles (i.e., 40.08%) experienced a delay between 100-199 days and were closely followed by 26.11 percent of articles with a delay of up to 99 days. Only 2.43 percent of articles fell in the 400-499 days delay category before being published. A strong influence of time between submission to final revision on overall publication delay was observed. The study did not find any correlation between the number of contributing authors and increasing delay in publication and contradicts the result obtained in another study on selected information science journals. The study is expected to help researchers and authors in the field of LIS to take informed decision before submitting their manuscripts to DJLIT for publication.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135527751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis was conducted through desk research using the scientometric method from the Scopus database, with a total of 1,037 articles analysed. The research found that social sciences scholars in Indonesia made significant contributions to the fields of online learning, economics, business and management, public health and administration, and communication and media studies. The study also identified the influences of research areas, funding, open access, female first author, female co-authors, and international collaborative research on quartile and the number of citations. The implications of the study suggest that efforts should be made to promote gender diversity in research, allocate research funding appropriately, and encourage international collaboration. Authors should prioritize publishing in high quartile journals and opt for open access publication. Additionally, academic institutions and funding agencies should provide guidance on selecting reputable journals to maintain a culture of quality research.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135527749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to shed light on issues concerning Koha cataloguing module and the local practices in policy and procedure while utilising the module. An exploratory sequential research design was adopted for the study involving an online focus group interview and a questionnaire survey as the data collection techniques. Twenty-two academic libraries from public and private universities in Malaysia were purposively sampled. A total of six academic libraries participated in the focus group, whereas 41 participants took part in the survey. The study highlighted academic libraries in Malaysia embrace Koha for two main reasons - popularity as and OSS and budget constraints for a proprietary library system. The findings of the study revealed that missing records is a significant issue that cataloguers will have to deal with and there is a lack of certain features available in the Koha cataloging module, such as the label creator and search feature. Apart from that, using Koha for cataloguing does not affect the cataloguing practices in terms of policy, but it does affect the cataloguing procedure. Satisfaction level with Koha cataloguing module is high. Other academic libraries in Malaysia that have not yet made a move to Koha or are in the midst of doing so would benefit from this study.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135527752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, an analysis was undertaken to study published research that cited his works in the Web of Science (WoS) from 1957 to 2017. A total of 6,591 documents were found that record 8,989 citations from a range of McLuhan’s, mainly scientific documents (journal articles and monographs). The temporary distribution of the documents, the citations received by the different types of documents, the subject matter of the papers and the other co-authors cited along with McLuhan were analyzed. Among the main results, it was found that compared to the Canadian researcher’s journal articles, his monographs received the most citations received, notably his work entitled “Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man”. In addition, it was discovered that the interdisciplinary nature of McLuhan’s thought has had repercussions in different fields, such as communication, education, sociology and computer science. Since the second half of the 20th century, McLuhan is a benchmark, together with outstanding sociologists, philosophers and communication theorists such as Theodor Adorno, Pierre Bourdieu and Zygmunt Bauman, among others.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2020-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68663716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study employed a descriptive-qualitative approach to explore how the IRs are operated in three selected universities in Indonesia. Three types of data collection techniques were used: interviews, observation, and document analysis. Structured interview was used as the main data collection technique. Findings of the study are presented in four main aspects in the implementation of IRs, i.e. development of scientific works; processing or recruitment of scientific works through self-archiving and digitization; promotion of IRs in increasing its visibility; and distribution or dissemination of the local scientific works by libraries. Although all three universities have adopted an open access policy which requires their academic community to make their scholarly works available in the freely accessible IRs, the distribution model differs in terms of the degree of openness. It seems that the value of a repository and open access ideals are quite enough to significantly increase faculty and students participation to populate the IRs. This study is significantly useful for readers, especially in the context of a developing country, to know the crucial position of the IRs as an infrastructure that frames the scholarly communication at universities.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"24 1","pages":"101-114"},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42485811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thirteen CLIS journals and 3,150 articles published between 2001 and 2014 were selected as subject and a 13x13 matrix was aggregated for structural equivalence analysis. The matrix was reduced into 6x6 blocks, and their block matrices and image diagrams were created based on results of structural equivalence analysis. The six blocks (i.e., general LIS I and II, core LIS I and II, interdisciplinary and residual) were used to examine the journal positions, network images and core-peripheral structure in the network. The block structure of the CLIS journal network shows both stability and change through the two individual periods of seven years (i.e., 2001-2007 and 2008-2014). The structural equivalence based results provide valuable alternative publication outlets for paper re-submission for scholars when a paper has been rejected. Such result is useful for journal editors to gain an image of which journals are competitive rivals in terms of journal-to-journal citation network. The core-periphery structure is roughly supported by this study both for the overall fourteen years and during two individual periods.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49093864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bibliometric and altmetric indicators were applied to evaluate the impact of books, and correlations between different indicators were analyzed using Spearman correlation coefficients. The results showed significant differences between impact ranks using both indicators. Bibliometric indicators, including citations, library holdings, and book reviews, mainly reflect the academic impact of books, while altmetric indicators, including Amazon sales and Goodreads ratings, mainly reflect the social impact of those books. The most influential books and scholars were obtained based on each of the two indicator types. This effort can benefit academic efforts to evaluate the impact of books using multiple indicators.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"24 1","pages":"23-38"},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47604652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metadata has long been viewed as a major constituent in research data management and reuse. However, the topic of whether metadata is used in a way that encourages data reuse has been understudied. The current study examined metadata elements used to describe datasets and the predictive probability of those metadata elements for data reuse under the assumption that citation frequency reflects the frequency of research data reuse. A total of 34,491 cited records from the biology category of the Clarivate Analytics Data Citation Index were analyzed using descriptive comparison and multiple regression analysis to compare usage patterns of metadata elements between data records cited more than twice and those cited only once. Of the five types of metadata elements identified and examined, metadata elements that provided descriptions about datasets and author-related information dominantly appeared across datasets, whereas DOI and ORCID identifier were scarce. Metadata related to author and funding resources were found to be positive influential factors in predicting data reuse, whereas data descriptions and identifiers appeared to have negative influences. This study contributed to a better understanding of metadata needs for data reuse.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"24 1","pages":"61-75"},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42730624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A survey research on the students population of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in Iran was designed. A researcher developed questionnaire was used for data collection. After determining the validity and reliability of the research instrument, the questionnaire was distributed to 380 students based on a stratified random sampling procedure. Structural Equation Analysis, Path Analysis and the Linear Structural Relation (LISREL) software were used for data analysis. The results showed that (a) the time available to the students, and their interest in books and libraries, bring about surfing enjoyment and make the library a more enjoyable place for them; (b) individual features influence the students’ tendency towards impulsive use; (c) environmental features of the library directly affect students’ positive emotions and impulsive using behaviour, and indirectly affect it through their positive emotion; and (d) Surfing enjoyment had a direct effect on the students’ positive emotion and their tendency towards the impulsive use of the library resources and services. The direct relationship between the students’ positive emotion and their tendency towards impulsive use was not confirmed. However, the results of the path analysis showed a direct and significant effect of the positive emotion on the impulsive use of the library resources and services in the selected population.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"24 1","pages":"77-99"},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46943770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A case study approach using purposive sampling of three children welfare institutions was conducted with a total number of 10 participants. Data were collected through a series of interviews and two focus groups. Qualitative data were analysed using NVivo. Open coding and thematic coding were used to generate themes on the informational roles and needs of the caregivers. The caregivers perform their roles as guardian, counsellor, and administrator which involve informational roles as a monitor, disseminator and spokesperson of internal and external information for the institution. Each role requires specific information in order to fulfill their tasks such as information on the children’s background, daily information required, past education, future education (including sex education) and career path, monitoring of former children, disciplinary action taken on misbehaving children, information related to sports and leisure activities, safety, health as well as children rewards. This paper is significant to this specific community (caregivers of child welfare institutions) in order to understand their information needs, based on the actual caregivers’ roles and tasks. The findings would be useful as a benchmark in providing better information services for the caregivers to perform their roles and tasks in managing children at risk.","PeriodicalId":45072,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science","volume":"24 1","pages":"1-21"},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47864368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
