The purpose of this study was to ascertainb the beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours of coaches of different sport modalities and categories regarding nutrition and the body, and the control they exercise over the diet and weight of their athletes. A total of 127 male (73.2%) and female coaches (26.8%) participated in the study. The participants trained different sports modalities and categories, and had a diverse experience as coaches. They voluntarily filled out an online ad hoc survey with questions about different potential risk factors related to athlete nutrition and weight. A significant number of coaches found to have risk beliefs, attitudes, and practices in relation to weight of their athletes and their control over it. Many coaches do not know how to get advice and how to properly advise their athletes in relation to diet and weight control, which further complicates the situation. It is very important that coaches have specific training on nutrition and weight management in athletes and resources to identify and manage subclinical and clinical eating disorders, and that they receive adequate help from other relevant professionals.","PeriodicalId":44944,"journal":{"name":"Revista Iberoamericana de Psicologia del Ejercicio y el Deporte","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89761643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this, a qualitative study was conducted where eight international FIFA referees analyzed, through semi-structured interviews, the impact of the psychological factor on their work. Results show that the most commonly mentioned mental variable was “self-control”, which may be associated to the emotional self-regulation and behavioral process during their performance. Other variables reported included concentration, capacity for abstraction, and game control. It is concluded that participants recognize the influence of psychological factors in their performance and tend to associate it to emotional factors (self-control) that affect cognitive (concentration) and contextual factors directed to a central objective related to game management. Based on the results, the implications and the possibilities for interventions in referee training and advising, mainly intended to develop strategies to face the demands inherent to the role of the referee, are discussed.","PeriodicalId":44944,"journal":{"name":"Revista Iberoamericana de Psicologia del Ejercicio y el Deporte","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82332662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are however few studies of this type relating to specific sports. To devise a psychological training program, it is important to know some variables and their impact at different times of the season. The aim of this paper is to describe the psychological aspects that Olympic wrestlers perceive as most important in a competition and the best and the worst moments of the season, and to analyze the strategies used by wrestlers to face complicated situations. For this, a qualitative methodology based on content analysis was used. Twenty-five wrestlers were interviewed for our study. The results suggest that there are variables with a greater weight in different situations, such as stress control and self-confidence, and others that appear as relevant at specific times and related to situations of high or low performance, such as expectations, attention, social support, or perception of fitness. On the other hand, wrestlers make use of different strategies during competition and are worried about specific aspects of their sport such as nutrition and weight control. Finally, it is important to know the psychological variables depending on the time of the season and the specific sport, and to perform qualitative evaluations including the opinion of wrestlers, to be able to devise psychological training programs adapted to their needs.","PeriodicalId":44944,"journal":{"name":"Revista Iberoamericana de Psicologia del Ejercicio y el Deporte","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88331502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
