By determining the status and impact of library managers’ communication skills on the librarians’ level of motivation and job satisfaction, it is possible to design the necessary plans to promote librarians’ motivation and job satisfaction. The study population comprised 90 librarians from 20 universities and their branches. Data were collected via a questionnaire, and the relationships between variables were assessed via multiple regression. The average communication skills of library managers in academic libraries were 63.90 per cent and the average communication skills of librarians were 73.06 per cent, higher than the identified average. The library managers’ communication skills did not have a significant effect on librarians’ motivation, but had a significant effect on their job satisfaction. Moreover, effective communication between managers and employees leads to the provision of high-quality services and a better understanding of the tasks assigned to the employees. The results of this study are useful for administrators, librarians, and other university staff.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67016224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Essential metadata elements were collected from the SCOPUS bibliographic database pertaining to fake news with specific reference to the LIS domain from 2017 to 2020 for the research work and analysed as per the research objectives. While the bibliometric indicators and R package has been used to study the various quantitative dimensions of publication patterns of the research papers, qualitative content analysis has been used to determine the emerging areas of research on fake news within the discipline. The quantitative analysis reveals that a good number of research works (N=133) have been published in as many as 52 academic journals of LIS that received 628 citations. “Proceedings of the Association for Information Science and Technology” is the most productive journal that published the highest numbers of articles on fake news, and the USA is the dominant country of publications. In the LIS field, “fake news” is an emerging study topic that is gaining momentum. The research works covered a wide range of topics, including social media and fake news, information literacy and fake news, the role of libraries and librarians in fake news, detecting and combating fake news, theories, models, and frameworks, as well as archiving, preservation of fake news.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67016253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It analyses an array of definitional meaning and disinformation on COVID-19, which has been identified and grounded with valid information by the fact-checkers. The study’s aim is to explore and analyse the intents behind the circulation of misleading information (intended and unintended) on COVID-19. For the study, quantitative content analysis and qualitative discourse analysis methods were utilised to explore the extent of the misleading information on COVID-19. Further, in-depth interviews were conducted with fact-checkers, media professionals, academicians, and a psychologist to understand the purpose of disinformation and its impact on society at large. The study’s findings propose that fact-checking is a crucial method to identify fake/misleading information, which can be counter acted by accurate and verified information. This paper argues that holding journalists, fact-checkers, the Government, and the citizens’ accountable, is necessary to counter the threat of disinformation about the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67016515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study aims to investigate the accuracy of citations in the obstetrics and gynecology journals indexed in the Web of Science. Major and minor citation errors, type of errors, and citation errors in the Q1 to Q4 journals investigate as the objectives. The journals were retrieved by searching the “Obstetrics & Gynecology” category in the Journal Citation Report (JCR) in the Web of Science, and journals in different quartiles (Q1-Q4) were identified by applying the JIF Quartile filter. Eight hundred forty citations were selected from articles in the first five Q1 to Q4 journals using systematic sampling and article type citations were included in the study (730 citations). Bibliographic elements were assessed for citation errors. Findings show that 554 citations (75.89 %) involved errors. Only 24.1 per cent of the citations had no errors. The highest citation errors were related to the volume and issue, with 582 major errors (79.72 %). The citation accuracy in the Q2 and Q3 journals is higher than in other journals. The high rate of citation errors, especially in volumes and numbers, indicates that the journals need to pay attention to citation accuracy in these sections and the use of valid and complete citation styles.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67016231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is designed to x-ray people’s understanding of what constitute hate and the role of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in promoting national unity and integration in Nigeria. Qualitative research method was adopted in conducting the research. Data was collected using interview and descriptive method was used in the analysis. A total of 72 participants were purposively selected for the interview from the six geo-political zones in Nigeria. The findings show that majority of the respondents were not familiar with the concept of MIL; the study also showed that effective implementation of MIL competencies will not only curb the spread of hate speech in Nigeria but also ensure national unity and national integration. The paper concludes by recommending that there is need for sensitisation among Nigerians on the dangers of hate speech and the remedy provided by MIL in order to produce citizens who will harmoniously work together to build the country.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67016339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data is extracted (N=2075) from the Scopus database using keywords related to semantic digital libraries by considering all types of publications during 1983-2019. The analysis of each document is based on the following scientometrics indicators: author productivity, degree of collaboration, collaboration index, collaboration coefficient and modified collaboration coefficient. Correlation matrices were also calculated and inferences drawn in terms of authors and publications. A network visualisation tool VOSviewer was used to present authorship correlation network strength and keyword mapping for a better insight into the emerging areas in the field of SDL. The resulting average degree of collaboration of 0.898 indicates that a large number of publications are multi-authored and that there is a higher level of collaborative research in the field of semantic digital libraries. Meghini C from the Institute of Information Science and Technologies, Italy has produced the highest number of research paper(n=18) whereas Egenhofer MJ found to be a profoundly impacted author with 851 citations on in the studied domain. Results also reveal that the focus areas of research related to SDL include digital libraries, semantic web, ontology, metadata and information retrieval. However, keywords such as natural language processing system, computational linguistics, linked data are also repeated frequently in the published literature, thus revealing the emerging areas of the future research in the domain of SDL.","PeriodicalId":44921,"journal":{"name":"DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology","volume":"40 1","pages":"375-381"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2020-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48087946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
