The flow behavior of each typical flow pattern is urged to know in order to further understand its inherent flow mechanism. This paper aims to characterize the flow pattern of gas-water two-phase flow within a horizontal pipe by the Multivariate Multiscale Entropy (MMSE) analysis with the measured data of a dual-plane Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT) system. The measured data from each plane of ERT is jointly processed as a bivariate time series set, and the Multivariate Multiscale Sample Entropy (MSampEn) is then applied to characterize the inner flow behavior of the two-phase flow system. The results demonstrate that the MSampEn is capable of providing insight characterization of the decomposition of the measurement signal of each flow pattern, and that the flow patterns and also their complexity can be easily identified at different scales.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125742131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spatially varying blur due to defocus or camera shake is hard to estimate. It is observed that the existing blur metrics does not perform well for images having very few or many features. In this work, we present contrast based blur invariant features named as CBIF, which utilizes useful information available in different contrast levels. We further, used CBIF along with local standard deviation to formulate a no reference objective blur metric which shows better results compared with other existing blur metrics. Additionally, the proposed blur metric can be modified for perceptual quality assessment by implementing the scheme which takes advantage of a better correlation with human blur perception. Also, the blur metric can be modified to provide blur assessment in the presence of gaussian noise. The proposed metric is monotonic as well as accurate even for severely blurred images. The comparison of results with subjective scores of CSIQ and LIVE image databases also validated the superiority of our proposed metric over existing metrics. The applicability of our blur metric is also demonstrated for the assessment of JPEG distortions. The property of CBIF for being more sensitive to blur effected regions is also used for obtaining blur likelihood map which is further used in blur segmentation.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127602599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, different time series analyses, relying on linear and generalized linear modeling, have been investigated, with special emphasis on the Granger test for the time series. The experimental results indicate that statistically enhanced discrimination between normal and different types of lung cancer cells and stages can be achieved based on the pairwise comparisons of the time series diffused reflectance signal intensities and depolarization properties of the cells.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"63 CN_suppl_1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128162470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, since the restriction of fixed hand posture and the loss of vein's depth message in traditional 2D vein recognition will cause a higher false rejection rate (FRR), many researchers have focused on the 3D hand vein recognition. For vein recognition, the knowledge of the vascular tree's topology and symbolic description of its feature points will be essential, while by using the common 3D reconstruction methods the vein data obtained is sparse and not enough to describe the topology of hand vein. In this paper, a computational framework to develop vascular tree interpolation with minimum human intervention to repair the possible broken vessels is proposed, which comprises three main parts including labeling point cloud into different clusters, finding pairs of interpolation points and the process of interpolation. This achieves good performance on 18 sets of hand vein point clouds.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128289905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed scheme constitutes the first attempt in moment-based color image watermarking. The watermark logo information is iteratively embedded enhancing its integrity with the application of the majority-vote decision rule in the detector side. Scheme's robustness and imperceptibility, two of the most crucial issues in image watermarking, are investigated under desynchronization and common signal processing attacks including rotation, scaling, JPEG compression, additive noise and median filtering. QRTMs have no numerical instabilities and stay robust under the majority of the attacking conditions overcoming the performance of a recently proposed color image watermarking's scheme. Moreover the image assessment of the produced watermarked images proves the high level of imperceptibility.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129950010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The returned full-waveforms were collected from the Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) mission and the Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) of the full-waveforms were used to be the attributes of test data for generating the SVM prediction model. FWHM were obtained from waveforms filtered by Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD). The SVM prediction model with high cross validation accuracy was selected to predict the land types of Beijing area. GLAS full-waveforms, which were used to predict and validate the land classification, were acquired when ICESat was passing over Beijing urban and rural areas from 1st Jan 2003 to 31st Dec 2005. Besides of terrace and building, the main land types of Beijing area are plain and stone Mountain that lacks of trees. Thus the received waveforms of ICESat/GLAS were divided into five kinds, `invalid', `plain', `terrace', `building' and `mountain' waveforms. Over this test site, the algorithm achieved an overall classification accuracy of 91.5%. This method can be developed to be an on-line automation algorithm to classify the land type.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130332062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MRSI is a relatively new imaging entity for clinical applications and gathering relevant data is an expensive task. Therefore, only few small databases might exist for clinical use. However, the rapid advances made in the field of NMR scanning technologies as applied to clinical diagnosis of oncological diseases, may soon lead to the creation of large databases of such images in medical centers and hospitals. Therefore, the need for mining MRSI images will soon emerge. This paper proposes the novel application of a recent method for content based MRSI image retrieval based on investigating fuzzy descriptors in the image and the wavelet domain as an extension of a recent fuzzy descriptor. The description of MRSI images relies on a new descriptor which includes global image features as well as transform domain features, capturing both brightness and texture characteristics at the same time, based on a normalized measure of the MRS spectrum per each image voxel. Image information is extracted using a set of fuzzy approaches applied to image and transform domain. Experiments illustrate the feasibility of the proposed approach using synthetic images derived from benchmark MRS spectra.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131034265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The general missile-borne diving model expanded from the classic side-look image model includes three-dimensional position and three-dimensional velocity and can be used describe the motion of the missile-borne SAR flexibly. Based on the general model and the Doppler position equations of SAR slant image to ground image, the two-dimensional position errors expressions of the corrected image are derived. The expressions are the functions of the platform's three-dimensional position and three-dimensional velocity. Then the SAR image's position errors varying with the above six factors are simulated, also the whole-chain simulation including echo simulation, imaging and position measuring validated the correction of the image position expressions. The presented position expressions of the platform's motion errors can serve the platform's parameters choosing for the missile-borne system design, and it is of important value for engineering reference.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132838974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces the least squares method (LSM) to demodulate multi-frequency signals in electromagnetic rail inspection using eddy current detection. The demodulation speed of LSM is faster than other methods because it can estimate frequencies with one time matrix calculation. Furthermore, its calculation complexity is less than other demodulation methods like FFT and fast correlation. Consequently, this method can improve the demodulation speed without decrease the demodulation accuracy. And it will be used as ideal demodulation algorithm for online real time multi-frequency electromagnetic rail inspection.","PeriodicalId":448698,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Conference on Imaging Systems and Techniques (IST)","volume":"261 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132776328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
