The authors present a performance comparison of the two approaches for the fluctuating target cases under equal transmitted-energy constraints. Both theoretical analysis and simulations are used to study the performances of the detection (determination of number of targets) and angle estimation. It is found that frequency-domain smoothing can significantly outperform nonfrequency-domain smoothing under the equal transmitted-energy constraint.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":448544,"journal":{"name":"ICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing","volume":"534 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120971994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recursion which is commonly used was designed to work on a single noise-free image frame and convergence conditions were derived via the contraction mapping theorem. However these conditions do not guarantee convergence when the degrading filter has zeros in its transfer function. The authors consider the case where the imaging system gathers a sequence of noisy images of a static scene. The problem formulation uses a state space approach to provide easily verifiable conditions on the degrading filter which guarantee that the scene can be recovered from the image sequence in the presence of noise. It is shown that even transfer functions which have zeros are allowed. A recursive filter is developed to construct the estimate of the scene from the image sequence and experimental results are given.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":448544,"journal":{"name":"ICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127523991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first step, hypothesization, consists in the selection of a subset of word candidates, starting from the segmentation of speech into six broad phonetic classes. This module is implemented through a dynamic programming algorithm working in a three-dimensional space. The search is performed on a tree representing a coarse description of the lexicon. The second step is the search for the best N candidates according to a maximum-likelihood criterion. Each word candidate is represented by a graph of subword hidden Markov models, and a tree structure of the whole word subset is built on line for an efficient implementation of the Viterbi algorithm. A comparison with a direct approach that does not use the hypothesization module shows that the two-pass approach has the same performance with an 80% reduction in computational complexity.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":448544,"journal":{"name":"ICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125126090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

His main interest is what happens in the case of coherent multipath propagation. He casts the multipath into a statistical framework and derives an approximation of the average optimal SNR. He concludes that the average optimal SNR increases linearly with the number of reflections of the desired signal. The reason for this is that it is possible for the receiver to take advantage of the extra desired signal energy that comes from the reflections.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":448544,"journal":{"name":"ICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1988-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125283157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
