Two pairs of English team teachers at two Junior High Schools in Ponorogo were interviewed and their classroom practices were observed. Then, the data were analyzed by using the interactive model proposed by Miles Huberman. The findings showed that NESTs and LETs possessed different beliefs about their roles in team teaching in which NESTs perceived their roles primarily dealing with linguistic and cultural aspects. Meanwhile, LETs played roles as the main teachers who led the classes by writing lesson plans, choosing the materials, focusing on theory (delivering basic materials), and assessing students. Furthermore, three factors shape teachers’ beliefs about their roles in team teaching, namely training, teaching experience, and learning experience. This research findings are expected to provide some recommendations to wide range of stakeholders to re-examine the practice of team teaching between NESTs and LETs by focusing on their respective strengths to generate the best classroom practices.","PeriodicalId":448484,"journal":{"name":"JETLe (Journal of English Language Teaching and Learning)","volume":"354 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132655806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process of learning vocabulary is sometimes referred to as vocabulary acquisition. In light of this, teachers need to conduct appropriate and enjoyable activities when teaching vocabulary. Effective techniques and interesting vocabulary materials are imperative especially for primary school ESL learners. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of employing word recognition instruction and visual aids in teaching action verbs to primary school learners in one of the primary schools in Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia. The overall number of participants in the research was 50, and they represented a mixed abilities group of learners. They were randomly assigned into experimental and control groups of 25. The experimental group used word recognition instruction and visual aids to learn new vocabulary (action verbs), while the control group used traditional memorisation instruction to learn the same vocabulary. Following these instructions, the two groups were evaluated (Post-test). The study's findings indicated that the experimental group outperformed the control group. Additionally, it recommends that English language teachers consider word recognition instruction and visual aids as successful vocabulary teaching strategies.                  ","PeriodicalId":448484,"journal":{"name":"JETLe (Journal of English Language Teaching and Learning)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123899389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The global growth in the usage of English has resulted in many reforms within educational institutions. The study aims to ascertain and examine English needs for information technology purposes among professionals and learners on a wide scale. A quantitative descriptive approach with a survey research design was employed in the study, and it applied to the Cross-Sectional survey design. Mailed questionnaires were collected from 243 students’ and 23 professionals. According to the questionnaires, the result found that professional purposes for learning English are to complete written-project reports or papers, while students must communicate with the global community. The English learning outcome implied different aims. The professionals want to complete language instructions for information technology processing, but students expect information access to the products. Professional speaking abilities are concerned with asking clarifications in the group or personal meetings, yet students concern more in taking and receiving the phone calls. In the same manner as writing, professionals and students have the same expectation that is to produce formal reports in academic or professional situations. Both participants perceive the responses by reading ability concerned to the summarizing detail information. This study affirmed an interrelation between the English standing in professional IT and students’ IT positions in communication experiences in their present circumstances.","PeriodicalId":448484,"journal":{"name":"JETLe (Journal of English Language Teaching and Learning)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133859842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
