One was a 32-channel manually op erated, self controlled system, and the other was an automatic, computer controlled system having 16 channels. Each system can simultaneously and continuously measure as many separate electric or magnetic field strengths as it has channels, and at as many different locations. The systems are isolated from their surroundings by fiberoptic links, and the probes are isolated from the test set up and the remainder of the system by highresistance transmission lines. The probes cover the frequency ranges of 100 kHz to 12 GHz for electric fields and 500 kHz to 200 MHz for magne tic fields, and they measure field strengths from 0.2 V/m to 200 V/m electric, and 0.003 A/m to 0.5 A/m magnetic.","PeriodicalId":448304,"journal":{"name":"1980 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121066485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the steady state these repercussions can easily be described in mathematical form and they can be simply compen sated, by simple tuned filters. For non-steady states, such as dynamic operation by the convertor, in cycloconvertors, etc., the theoretical simpli fications normally employed are no longer appli cable. On the one hand, non-typical additional harmonics are produced and, at the same time, the effectiveness of the filters in non steady-state conditions is lessened.","PeriodicalId":448304,"journal":{"name":"1980 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121153471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results using these techniques are compared to that obtained from estimating the sample means and standard deviations from data samples of man-made noise. For man-made noise modeling, it was determined that u could be estimated to an accuracy of 0 . 1 dB using the expression p = [50%] + 0 . 2 3 7 (Du D^); where [50%] is the median value in dB/kTB, and where Du and Djj are the upper and lower decile, respect ively, in dB relative to the medium. For the standard deviation;, the simple expression given by a = [(Du2 + D^2)/2]G/(1 . 2 8 ) is usually accurate to within 0 . 5 dB of the sample estimate.","PeriodicalId":448304,"journal":{"name":"1980 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131461302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on th.e concept of radial impedance, the pa per shows that certain earthen structures ,having a structurally supporting bi jagged interface made of chamotte, brick, or even of wood, can overcome, very eco->nomically, the disadvantages mentioned. At higher frequencies free space conditi-B ons are closely approximated. o b j e c t i v e s: & b e n e f i t s The purpose of this paper is to delineate how the limits and constraints of conven tional shielded enclosures ( including the many modifications made to overcome, at least in part, specific limitations) can be eliminated categorically through re placing metal by soil. Soil not only pro vides a much smaller front surface reflec tion per se, but, in addition permits the application of non-lossy transition cones that penetrate both into the air space and into ihe soil space. The double -cones, then, exclude the worst disadvanta ges of metallic structures, namely fire hazards and front surface reflection. Al so, shield continuity is no longer a prob lem. The obvious advantages of such an earthen structure, in cost and performance, are particularly pronounced if large equip ment has to be tested and/or operated un der high power.","PeriodicalId":448304,"journal":{"name":"1980 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility","volume":"24 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1980-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120925882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
