Abstract
This paper outlines some aspects of a research project which investigated solu tions to the system identification problem based on the set of Walsh functions. The time-invariant linear (TIL) and dyadic invariant linear (DIL) systems are defined as special cases of a general translation invariant linear system. A solution to the identification problem is proposed which • takes advantage of both the modelling ability of the TIL system and the comput ational advantages associated with the DIL system. The proposed general technique is illustrated using a simple example and some results from a set of computer simulations.
