This paper also provides a short survey on using and creating Web services based on WSDL-S and SOAP technologies and make a introduction to Semantic Web technologies : WSDL-S, OWL-S, and WSMO. We provide a JESS rule example, we serialize it into a R2ML rule (R2ML tend to become a standard of rule serialization into a XML form) then using SOAP, we create a request for the example Web service.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122845861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Medical records digital environment (MRDE) is populated by interconnected medical records digital components (MRDC). MRDC are combined together to support creation of a digital infrastructure that will provide standardized use of medical records within various regions, countries and even continents. If medical records are to be recognized by different digital components at different locations, standardization of data needs to take place. Ontologies can be used for this purpose. Instantiation of the Generic Medical Record Ontology concepts result in Specific Medical Record Ontologies that act as personalized medical records. Ontology files are machine readable and are suitable to be used within MRDES. One of the key MRDC includes medical record databases that contain personal medical records. Through use of ontologies for standardization of medical records from these different databases, one big virtual database is created that contains medical records of all people. Other key MRDCs are machine-readable personal medical records as well as screening components that read those records. The advantage is that one comprehensive format for the medical records is set within this digital ecosystem and this record can be accessed, read and understood regardless of what country this person is in. This advantage is of especial importance in emergency cases. The significance of this research lies in the unification of the advances of the ontology technology and ecosystem paradigm for the purpose of establishing worldwide standardization of medical records.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114798684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This concern is crucial for e-commerce sites and mission-critical business applications. SOA modelling is used to implement the concept of digital business ecosystem (DBE). In computing environment of DBE a chain of components link business applications together, and the strength of this chain, in terms of reliability and performance, will determine the success or failure of the business. One way to make the chain stronger is to increase the reliability of all components involved, especially the critical components of the chain. In this paper, we address the reliability issue of digital ecosystem's transactions. The major contribution of this research is to propose a framework for reliable transactions in DE, via the analysis of the reliability for Web services computing.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"98 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120972376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We perform the study using a simulated DBE. It was created by a software package that receives statistical data from a real DBE as input and outputs a realistic simulated model consisting of a certain number of companies and services. Issues of trust between companies are modelled using the psychophysical law of Weber Fechner and their effect on the quality of the chains of products created is studied.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121642858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Customer participation in these networks, even though necessary, is usually neglected or submissive to the needs of the business enterprises. Based on the metaphor of 'business ecosystems', this paper argues for the need to introduce customers as active members of business networks and proposes a conceptual and a business model of customer-centric business ecosystems. The business model is based on a technological platform, which enables the development, the dynamic configuration and the coordination of the customer-centric business ecosystem. The operations of the platform follow the paradigm of service oriented architectures and they can be implemented with the use of Web services. The paper discusses also the strategic aspects of the development of customer-centric business ecosystems.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134042299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper highlights the importance of a data integration layer in a Business Intelligence system and the benefits that the use of an ontology as data description formalism and query interface, can bring to the system. In particular we focus on the aspects of data mapping and ontology enrichment, giving a general overview of the problem. We introduce also BT Data Foundry platform that has been implemented by Intelligent Systems Research Centre of BT Exact (British Telecom) as a method to provide the Business Intelligence system with a common data access layer. We provide also an outline of the solution to data mapping and ontology enrichment problems, based on semantic bridges and formal concept analysis (FCA). We use a normalization layer based on heuristic to reduce the terms space.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130454509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wireless coils of a Helmholtz type and a birdcage type were manufactured, and the resonance frequency was tuned at 64 MHz. Several magnetic resonance images were taken on a phantom and on a human knee with the RF coils. The signal to noise ratio (SNR) has been compared at the acquired images. The experimental results show that the SNR is improved with application of the inductive coupling between the RF coils.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128179861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I will outline some of the significant events and conceptual turning points of the past few years, the current activities, and the future challenges. In all cases my comments will be divided into two parts: the first part focuses on digital ecosystems as an Open Source technology inspired by biological ecosystems; the second part extends the meaning of the term to encompass the people and the companies that populate DEs, and the collaborative/ communicative processes by which new business and economic models are being forged. Keeping these two perspectives distinct and faithful to their respective philosophical traditions has enabled us to begin to understand how the process of formalisation of knowledge can couple constructively the behaviour of the very different kinds of actors inhabiting these two interacting epistemological spaces. Meanwhile, Digital Ecosystems are emerging in different parts of the world, in different socio-economic and cultural contexts, and can already provide a broad range of case studies for sustainable development. The talk will conclude with an overview of the interesting initiatives taking shape within and across the growing world-wide network of digital ecosystems.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133274314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper a simulation framework for self-optimising SME networks, namely Evolutionary Environment Simulator (EvESimulator), is introduced. The Evolutionary Environment, which the framework bases on, is an infrastructural component for distributed and decentralised service creation and service improvement based on mechanisms that are operating similarly in the living environment. This paper concentrates on the simulation of these mechanisms for SME networks. Built upon the widely-used simulation framework Repast, the cooperation behaviour of companies is investigated that use self-optimizing software services and distribute related information amongst them. The simulator is capable of importing real-world data from real businesses thereby enabling conceptual studies and hypothesis testing. It is applied in the context of three utilisation scenarios that investigate critical mass for sustainability, clustering in general, and usage-based clustering. The first results of the EvESimulator reveal a dynamic creation of a growing network of businesses that is clearly outperforming centralized topologies in the long run.","PeriodicalId":448012,"journal":{"name":"2007 Inaugural IEEE-IES Digital EcoSystems and Technologies Conference","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123319959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
