This antenna has the capability of switching between a broadside radiation pattern and monopole-like omni-directional pattern across a frequency tuning range of 2.7 GHz to 3.5 GHz. Using a single tuning bias voltage, the measured return loss was between 9.8 dB and 15 dB at the resonance frequencies across the tuning range. It will be demonstrated in this paper that the return loss at the resonance frequencies can be significantly improved to more than 30 dB with virtually no cost by using two reverse bias voltages controlling two groups of three tuning varactors. We demonstrate the ability of the Adafruit Si5351 development board as an alternative to the currently used table-top Tektronix gigaBERT 1400. We demonstrate the ability to produce low-noise clock signals from the development board that allows for the proper triggering of both the impulse generator and high-speed oscilloscope in our system. The choice of the Adafruit Si5351 as a replacement clock is validated by the analysis of the resulting pulse stability. The antenna exhibits small dimensions of 12.2×5.1×0.7 mm3. It is suitable for SoP integrated RF-front end modules operating at 2.45 GHz. It makes an efficient use of the multilayer capabilities provided by LTCC technology, where the matching circuit components are fully embedded into the substrate. This makes the antenna intrinsically matched and excludes the need for soldering any additional matching components. Feeding of the antenna is done on its backside using a miniaturized HSC surface mount connector. Furthermore it produces a stable angular response upto 80 degree for both TE and TM incidence modes. This simple low profile, parallel plate Luneburg lens can be exploited to ensure high energy efficiency, higher data rates, spectral efficiency, and extended coverage leading to a reduction in the number of physical base station antennas, and towers. Inserted between the parallel plates are two identical machined dielectric lens profiles each with a smooth dielectric permittivity gradient, varying from 2 at the center to 1 at the edge corresponding to Luneburg lens design specification. The lens is fed by ultra-low loss open-ended waveguides with probe launchers to inject multiple independent beams at the lens surface and between the plates. The broadband lens has a 3-dB beamwidth of 40° × 5.3° in the E and H plane and an average radiation efficiency greater than 70%. Cross-polarization and port isolation is greater than 30 dB, allowing for the effective co-existence of multiple input beams. The polarizer consists of new structure printed on a RT-5880 substrate. In order to decrease size of traditional design of Jerusalem-cross, a ring is used in the center of FSS.
