The various stages of implementation of the most significant design solutions are described chronologically to achieve the best technical and economic performance for this type of power unit. The review of selected design solutions is supplemented with illustrations and concise comments. Examples of practical engineering solutions, thanks to which previous techno-economic problems were optimized, such as insufficient lubrication efficiency of individual parts and components, significant lubricating oil consumption, ...) are presented. The work was concluded with an analytical summary and conclusions indicating the need to undertake more intensified research into developing the two-stroke engine (in particular, the possibility of using ecological propellants). Consideration of the presented research directions (suggestions) can help, among other things, to optimize power processes, i.e., to minimize the negative environmental impact of a two-stroke internal combustion engine.","PeriodicalId":447812,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technology and Exploitation in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"67 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116656401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We call conventional a specimen cut from a unidirectional composite laminate or an adhesive joint between two identical adherents. Assessing fracture toughness using conventional specimens is a common practice guided by international test standards. In contrast, we term unconventional a specimen resulting from, for instance, bimaterial joints, fiber metal laminates, or laminates with an elastically coupled behavior or residual stresses. This paper deals with unconventional specimens and highlights the key issues in determining their interfacial fracture toughness(es) based on fracture tests. Firstly, the mode decoupling and mode partitioning approaches are briefly discussed as tools to extract the pure-mode fracture toughnesses of an unconventional specimen that experiences mixed-mode fracture during testing. Next, we elaborate on the effects of bending-extension coupling and residual thermal stresses often appearing in unconventional specimens by reviewing major mechanical models that consider those effects. Lastly, the paper reviews two of our previous analytical models that surpass the state-of-the-art in that they consider the effects of bending-extension coupling and residual thermal stresses while they also offer mode partitioning.","PeriodicalId":447812,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technology and Exploitation in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126887616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The early human-made machines were made entirely from wood. With time, technical progress gradually displaced wood from machine design and construction. However, despite the passage of time, due to the low cost and availability of wood, the elements in the quickly worn out machine parts still were made from wood. Sliding bearing shells or replaceable gear teeth need to be replaced here. These elements can still be found in pre-war mills. This article contains examples overview of wood application in such areas as bearings, and discusses their advantages and disadvantages. It also indicates the desirability of undertaking further research on the use of wood in tribological pairs.","PeriodicalId":447812,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technology and Exploitation in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"16 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123264084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The irrigation system consists of solenoid valves, supplying water to a tunnel area divided into four zones. This allows four different types of plants to be grown. The system uses rainwater, collected in a reservoir when it is available. The water is delivered to the plants via by means of rubber hoses with holes. Thanks to this solution, the water is fed directly under the plant. The executive elements of the control system temperature and humidity are a motor and a fan. The motor opens the window when the measured parameters exceed the set value. If the humidity of the air is too high the fan is switched on, accelerating the air exchange. The system has an anemometer, the purpose of which is to measure and report dangerously strong winds. When the wind speed exceeds a critical value, the microcontroller forces the windows to be closed to protect the tunnel. The system also has a display, showing values of measured parameters and setpoints, as well as buttons to view them and change the expected value. An alarm is attached to the system. It is activated when the microcontroller registers a parameter value that is impossible to achieve under the tunnel's operating conditions. This indicates a possible failure of the measuring system. The executed system correctly adjusts the indicated parameters within its tolerance. The system has confirmed its usefulness, effectively reducing the time and labour required for plant care.","PeriodicalId":447812,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technology and Exploitation in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115745932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For active debris removal, the development of an effective capturing mechanism remains an open issue. Among several proposals, cable nets are light, easily packable, scalable, and versatile. Nonetheless, guidance, navigation, and control aspects are especially critical in both the capture and post-capture phases. We present a finite element model of a deployable cable net. We consider a lumped mass/cable net system taking into account non-linearities arising both from large displacements and deformations, and from the different response of cables when subject to tension and compression. The problem is stated by using the nodal coordinates as Lagrangian coordinates. Lastly, the nonlinear governing equations of the system are obtained in a form ready for numerical integration.","PeriodicalId":447812,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technology and Exploitation in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127925924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
