A secondary data from the Breast Cancer Wisconsin (Diagnostic) was used for analysis. The data was cleaned for outliers, recoded numerically and tested for multicollinearity. The ROC curve for the logistic regression model also revealed a high sensitivity and high specificity of the presence of tumorous cells in the patients with a percentage of 95% which is extremely high indicating that the logistic regression model is good in predicting better diagnosis of tumor cell of cancer patients accurately when combined with ROC.","PeriodicalId":447385,"journal":{"name":"IPS Journal of Public Health","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116578277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review provides a general overview of the cognitive and motor consequences associated with Al, Mn, Hg, and Pb exposure during early life as well as during adult stage in the onset of neurodegenerative diseases. This review showed that heavy metal exposure in early life results in more impacts due to the vulnerability of the blood brain barrier. The effects of Al, Mn, Hg, and Pb includes defects in habituation, decreased in rearing activity; intense defecation, motor impairments, decreased spatial memory and performance; declines in reference, recognition and working memory. It also causes an increase in the number of errors, an increase in the time it takes to find the platform, an increase in swimming distance, and a decrease in step-through latency and many others. Hence, Heavy metals are acknowledged inducers of behavioural toxicity and serve as sensitive endpoints of chemically produced neurotoxicity.","PeriodicalId":447385,"journal":{"name":"IPS Journal of Public Health","volume":"221 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122636992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was undertaken to assess consumer preferences for yoghurt and to compare the nutritional, sensory, microbial and physiochemical qualities of six brands of yoghurt. The sensory analysis for color, taste and consistency were carried out, and it was observed that product A has a normal taste, while product B - E possesses a sweet taste, while product F has a sour taste, possessing a custard-like consistency. The total cultural heterotrophic bacterial and fungal count was observed, and product D possess a higher bacteria count, while product A possess a higher fungal count (Cfu/mL). A sensitivity culture test was carried out on five different bacteria isolate using the following antibiotics agents: Amoxicillin (AMI), Streptomycin (S), Chloramphenicol (CH), Norfloxacin (N), ciprofloxacin (CPX), Erythromycin (E), Gentamycin (CN), Rifampicin (RD), Ampiclox (APX), and Levofloxacin (Lev). The result showed that Bacillus coagulans was resistance to all the antibiotics. The result of this study further indicated poor microbiological standards of commercial yoghurts sold in Ogwashi-uku market in Delta state at the time of this research. It is recommended that yoghurt stored without a refrigerator over one day should be consumed to avoid an outbreak of contamination which can be called food poisoning. Also, manufacturers should apply hygienic processes when producing yoghurt to avoid contamination. Finally, yoghurt manufacturers and vendors should avoid long exposure of yoghurt, also quality control (QC) measures including good manufacturing practices (GMPS) should be encouraged.","PeriodicalId":447385,"journal":{"name":"IPS Journal of Public Health","volume":"229 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116561572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four (4) research questions and one (1) hypothesis were formulated. Copious literature was reviewed which x-rayed the opinion of several authors on the topic. The target population was 150 females. A purposive non-probability sampling technique was used to select the sample size of 100 female adolescents. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire developed by the researcher. The questionnaire consisted of sections “A” demographic data of respondents and “B” of multiple questions on variables of the study. Data were presented and analyzed using frequency tables and figures. Finding from the research question revealed that the majority of the females have heard about female genital mutilation, that circumcised girls may be forced with psychological and health risks after female genital mutilation. Chi-square (X2) statistical tool was used to test the null hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance. The X2 calculated of 1.164 was lesser than the X2 table of 3.84. Following the statistical rule, the null hypothesis was accepted thus; there is no significant relationship between the factors influencing the continuous practice of female genital mutilation in Ueken community in Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State. Based on the findings and results from the study, the implications for nursing were spelt out and recommendations were made.","PeriodicalId":447385,"journal":{"name":"IPS Journal of Public Health","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115000620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated strategies of reducing malnutrition by caregivers amongst children 0-5 years in Opiro community. The objectives of this study are: to assess the management of malnutrition among children 0-5years, to identify the measures taken to reduce malnutrition among children, 0-5 years by caregivers and 'to identify the factors influencing the prevalence of malnutrition among children 0-5years in Opiro Community. Related literature was reviewed. Abraham Maslow hierarchy of human needs was adopted in this study. A cross-sectional descriptive design was used for this study. Ninety-two (92) was determined as the sample size using the Taro Yamen formula from a target population of 114. A purposive sampling technique was used. A self-developed questionnaire consisting of two sections was used. Section A consists of personal data of the respondents, section B consists of 11 items on variables of the study. Face and content validity of the instrument was done by the research supervisor. A test-retest method was used to measure the reliability. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was adopted to analyse the result which yielded was 0.85. The data were analysed using frequency, percentages, mean and presented on tables. Findings revealed that the majority of the respondents adopt adequate breastfeeding and balanced diet in the management of malnutrition, early diagnosis of any lag in growth and adequate environmental and personal hygiene are measures taken to reduce malnutrition and also poverty is one of the leading factors influencing the prevalence of malnutrition. The following recommendations were made; caregivers should be properly health educated on the importance of adequate breastfeeding, nurses and other health workers should educate caregivers on the causes and prevention of malnutrition etc.","PeriodicalId":447385,"journal":{"name":"IPS Journal of Public Health","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116431434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research study was a qualitative research study underpinned with the philosophy of ethnography. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the ethnographic interview data. A purposive convenient sampling was employed to ensure the right people were recruited and interviewed at their convenience to ensure enough time was given to the interview process, to allow in-depth exploration of information from the participants. The study sample size was eight. The participant were known by the researcher and were only selected with the inclusion criteria which includes only Nigerian nurses in the University of Sunderland, nurses that have been or are in the position of a nurse leader and have practice for more than ten years. Consequently, ethnographic interview was conducted with a face-to-face semi-structured open ended question to able to explore into the nurses experience. Data collection was through audio tape recorder, transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. Conclusively, the key themes formed the discussion of the findings. The key themes emerged from the subthemes. The themes were generated from the data collected from the participants according to the information they gave which answered the research question to give the desired result. However, the data collected from the ethnographic interview were strengthened by theories and literatures to give a final report. Therefore, the support from theory and literature confirmed the findings of the study. As a result, the study revealed that nursing leadership has an enormous influence on better healthcare outcome, through their roles and performances to ensure quality care. Hence, the perception of nurses indicates that nursing leadership is an influential factor to better healthcare outcome.","PeriodicalId":447385,"journal":{"name":"IPS Journal of Public Health","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116141183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Occupational and regular exposure to mixtures of metals and other chemicals induce oxidative stress which further induce hormonal imbalance and result to damage cell membrane, cell apoptosis, damage proteins, lipid and nucleic acid, reduced growth and development of oocytes, increase mRNA in anterior pituitary, reduced follicular development and growth, poor oocytes quality, poor reproductive outcome, damage DNA, embryo fragmentation, implantation failure, abortion, ovarian aging and steroidogenesis, folliculogenesis, impaired placentation, congenital abnormalities and formation of numerous developmental abnormalities. This study revealed an association between environmental contaminants and unexplained infertility, women with unexplained infertility have decreased ovarian sensitivity to gonadotropins, resulting in higher circulating gonadotropin levels, including higher mean serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels. Asides from environmental contaminant effects on female infertility, exposure to environmental contaminants could also increase the risk of suffering spontaneous abortion, stillbirths, premature delivery, gestational diabetes mellitus, pregnancy hypertension, preeclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, intrauterine growth restriction, low birth weight, harm the growing baby leading to foetal abnormality and congenital disabilities To manage female infertility, risk exposures to heavy metals should be reduced to minimal or zero level.","PeriodicalId":447385,"journal":{"name":"IPS Journal of Public Health","volume":"143 7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129471056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
