The proposed analysis consists of the geometric-flux-tube-based equivalent-magnetic-circuit model. The model includes saturable permeances taking into account the local magnetic saturation in the core. At first, the validity of the proposed analysis is examined for the various design free parameters. After verifying the accuracy of the torque computation of the proposed analysis through the comparisons with 3D-FEA, 8-pole 12-slot AFPM machine is optimally designed. Comparing to the traditional 3D-FEA, the design method proposed here has the same accuracy, while the computation time is as short as 1/700.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129778436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These factors were utilized in the design of a dual voltage exterior rotor permanent magnet (PM) actuator. The different phases of the actuator improvement were concluded with the design of a dual winding PM actuator. The physical coupling between the two sets of windings was used to satisfy the application requirements. Analytical and finite element (FE) analysis of the actuator and its various improvements will be presented in this work. A dynamic model of the dual winding exterior rotor PM actuator will also be developed. The advantage of utilizing the coupling between the sets of windings will then build upon the understanding of the dynamic model. Experimental results corroborating the presented theory will demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented theory.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125960328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The idea behind the active speed stall control concept is to make a rotor that is as simple as possible, and therefore very robust and suitable for offshore wind turbines. This is done by removing the pitch control of the blades. Above rated wind speed, the power is not controlled by controlling the pitch, but by controlling the rotor speed: the rotor speed is so much reduced that the aerodynamic power is limited to the rated value. A rough 10 MW permanent-magnet direct- drive generator design is presented, indicating that such a generator is feasible. It is shown that for a thorough evaluation of active speed stall control, more knowledge is required about changes in the wind speed. However, a considerable increase in generator system cost is necessary to enable active speed stall control.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122552257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These networks give some specific possibilities concerning the connections between the bus bars and the equipments. We propose here a new component for this kind of purpose that helps in solving stability problems at the network level and in supplying powerful consumers. This component, the MAPFC - mixed function for actuation & power flow control - is an AC machine connected between two inverters. The machine can be used in a traditional way - as a motor or as a generator - but also to transfer power from one DC bus to the other. We explain the principles of the MAPFC, especially the theory in the Park's domain, and some simulation results are given. We also define capabilities and limitations of the equipment.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"9 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121005399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The number of stator slots in the study was 36 and the number of the rotor slots was varied between 24 and 32. The width and depth of the rotor slots were kept at initial values. The maximum torque at a certain slip value was achieved at the number of 25 rotor slots. The rotor losses as a function of the number of rotor slots seem to decrease almost linearly when the number of the rotor slots was varied between 24 and 31.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121027179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique starts the motor independent of the mains supply with a high positive transient torque before connecting the spinning motor to the mains supply to operate in a standard Steinmetz configuration. It is imperative to the success of an FAS start-up that the spinning motor is connected to the mains at the correct moment. Incorrectly timed mains connection leads to the generation of transient torques of such a severity as to slow, or possibly stall the already started motor with very high inrush currents. This paper analyses key aspects related to the timing of the transition to mains supply, through the use of experimental results recorded under various starting conditions, and simulations based on a dynamic model of the FAS system. A simple yet practical method, which ensures that the timing of the mains connection is correct, is also described.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123270118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In-plane phase construction and axial phase arrangement are compared each other and many variants of them are introduced by combining soft magnetic composite (SMC) core and laminated steel core. Magnetic field is analyzed by three-dimensional equivalent magnetic circuit network (EMCN) method with the help of two-dimensional finite element analysis. The experimental results of prototyped motor compared with the analysis ones, and show the possibility of the suggested motor as a direct drive application requiring relatively low speed and high torque.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123493042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spiral vector model uses the spiral vector variables rotating counter clockwise in the complex plane. This model depends only on variables and parameters of one phase of stator and one phase of rotor without Park transformation. The rotor speed, airgap flux and stator current of one phase are estimated by a new variant of the extended Kalman filter in the complex domain. The estimated rotor speed, airgap flux and stator current are used for vector control where all controllers are based on the neural network. Computer simulations have been carried out to test the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control under noise and several load torques.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129618822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One often overlooked, but still rapidly growing alternative is wave power. There are fascinating new designs for harnessing the tremendous power of the waves. Hence any contribution in this field could be of real interest for numerous specialists. In the paper a novel modular permanent magnet tubular linear generator is proposed and analyzed by means of numeric field computations. It was designed for wave power take off systems to be placed in the Black Sea near the Romanian coasts.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"53 34","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131604535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
