In the paper, a novel filtering method is proposed. Construction of the filter is resembled that of the stator of a multi-phase induction motor. The filter is able to reduce the selected substantial harmonic currents effectively but free to the fundamental one. Principle of filter is expounded theoretically in the paper. Numerical simulation and experimental results show the validity of the method as well as expected.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130742521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At given steady-state operation point, the optimum efficiency is achieved by adapting the voltage- frequency correlation so that the active power absorbed by the motor is minimal. But, the minimum active power depends on the modulation strategy of the voltage inverter. In this paper, the search of optimum active power was achieved for pulse trains modulation strategy which simply allows developping high torques at low shaft speeds with respect to V/radicf control. The analysis reveals the energy efficiency improvement through the new optimal control. It is quantified on 2.6 kW motor drive how much energy optimal control can improve the system efficiency compared with constant V/radicf control. Several numerical results followed by some experimental verifications show that an efficiency improvement is obtainable by this optimal control.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132833969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed scheme is an application of an Hinfin filter to the class of robotic manipulator systems in order to guarantee disturbance attenuation of the observation error and the asymptotic stabilization of the estimation error. Using a stabilizing control law, a stabilization result based on the weak detectability of the system is obtained and the semi-global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point of the combined system is shown. Simulation results on a six D-O-F PUMA 560 robot manipulator show the asymptotic convergence of the reconstruction and tracking error vectors.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133379693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tidal currents are being recognized as a resource to be exploited for the sustainable generation of electrical power. The high load factors resulting from the fluid properties and the predictable resource characteristics make marine currents particularly attractive for power generation and advantageous when compared to other renewable energies. Moreover, international treaties related to climate control have triggered resurgence in development of renewable ocean energy technology. Therefore, several demonstration projects in tidal power are scheduled to capture the tidal generated coastal currents. Regarding this emerging and promising area of research, this paper reviews marine tidal power fundamental concepts and main projects around the world. It also report issues regarding electrical generator topologies associated to tidal turbines. Moreover, attempts are made to highlight future issues so as to index some emerging technologies mainly according to relevant works that have been carried out on wind turbines and on ship propellers.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133474600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The target application of the RG is to provide power for wireless sensor nodes performing structural health monitoring. The RG is of moving magnet design and optimisation of the magnetic circuit to maximise power density has resulted in a RG with significant reluctance forces. These reluctance forces sum with the mechanical compliance to produce an overall non-linear compliance response, as a result the resonant behavior of the RG differs considerably from a simple second-order model. The approach taken to design has been experimental in nature. Results of a simulated RG are presented along with the realisation and testing of a prototype RG.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132433681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a three-phase matrix converter, two control methods, known as direct and indirect methods, have been used frequently. When a high frequency output voltage is needed and the input voltage is unbalanced, it is shown that both methods can not work perfectly and output voltage THD is high. In this paper a new control method based on the direct modulation technique, which can perfectly work with input voltage unbalance, has been proposed. Theory analysis and simulation results for a three-phase matrix converter are presented in the paper to demonstrate the performance of this control method. The results confirm that the output voltages are balanced despite the input voltages are unbalanced.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132727307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such harmonics are commonly reduced by employing static compensators known as active power filters (APF). APF topologies are of various types, depending on technical and economical requirements; and their performance is intimately related to the applied control algorithm. In this paper, a new constant-frequency linear control scheme is proposed for a shunt three-phase four-leg APF. The APF is used to compensate the current distortion and the reactive power created by a typical industrial load. The elaboration of the control law is based on a small-signal averaged model of the converter, computed in the (d,q,0) synchronous frame. The control scheme consists of multiple-loops PI controllers that ensure voltage regulation at the DC side of the filter, and current wave shaping at the AC side. The control system is implemented numerically using the Matlab/Simulink tool. The performance of the proposed control approach is finally discussed through the obtained simulation results.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131407902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A novel resonant frequency tracking technique is proposed in order to achieve high efficiency operation of a linear compressor system. This is based on the fact that for given amplitude of the motor current, the linear compressor system reaches its maximum stroke and maximum input and output powers at its resonant frequency. By evaluation of the input power to the compressor and implementing a perturb and observe algorithm, the proposed technique can adjust the frequency of the motor current to match the resonant frequency of the compressor operation. The proposed technique does not require a position sensor, and can be easily implemented in a digital controller. Simulation and experimental results have demonstrated the validity of the proposed technique.","PeriodicalId":446844,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133725039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
