It is shown that in the study area, the tidal body force for diurnal tides is significantly greater than for semidiurnal ones. The maximum values of this quantity can reach about 2-8 m2s-2, and these values are typical for areas with a sharp bathymetric gradient. A comparison of the tidal body force for the two seasons showed noticeable differences. The features of the transformation of a barotropic tidal wave propagating in the zone of large values of the tidal body force for the K1, O1, M2 tidal constituents are demonstrated. Numerical simulations indicate that baroclinic tidal waves are effectively generated in this area, and intense short-period internal waves are likely to occur.","PeriodicalId":44680,"journal":{"name":"Russian Journal of Earth Sciences","volume":"243 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2022-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80545628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work presents studies on the manifestation of seismicity in the area of three underground gas storages (UGSs) located in the south-eastern part of the East European Platform (European part of Russia). The tectonic structure of this region, geodynamic conditions and technological characteristics of «Vostochnoye», «Zapadnoye», «Uzhnoye» UGS are presented. An analysis of the situation with the manifestation of seismicity allows us to conclude that it is technogenic in nature, a feature not previously noted on Russian UGSs. There is a wide list of signs indicating the relationship between the mode of operation of UGSs and the nature of seismicity: prior to the start of UGS operation technogenic seismicity in this area was not known; there is a clear correlation between UGS operation and seismicity; the epicenters of seismic phenomena are located in the geodynamic influence zone of the UGS; in the region there are Earth crustal faults that experienced activation in late Cenozoic time and respond to strong earthquakes of neighboring tectonic areas, which consequently indicates their predisposition to reactivation; the change in pressure in the UGS reservoir is sufficient to induce seismicity. The phenomenon of increasing seismic activity during the gas extraction period is noted, which is explained by the effect of softening of the containing massif and its subsequent push-like deformation when the gas pressure in the reservoir is reduced. Despite the weak seismicity, which does not pose a threat to UGS facilities and adjacent territories, it is proposed to include seismic observations in the complex geodynamic monitoring at Russian UGS to establish patterns over a long period of time.","PeriodicalId":44680,"journal":{"name":"Russian Journal of Earth Sciences","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2022-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78239250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AVO analysis is one of the methods of dynamic analysis that is used to estimate changes in the amplitude of reflected waves depending on the distance between the explosion points and the receivers. The AVO method is based on the analysis of the dependence of the reflection coefficients on the angle of incidence. In real conditions, this dependence can be determined, for example, by the roughness of the boundaries. This determines the relevance of studying the features of reflection coefficients on uneven boundaries on objects with well-controlled properties. The aim of the work is to determine the nature of the influence of different-scale roughness of seismic boundaries on the reflection coefficients of elastic waves. The work also used the technique of isolating standing waves to determine the wave velocity. As a result, graphs were obtained demonstrating the dependence of the reflection coefficients on the magnitude of the angle of incidence of reflected waves from a rough surface. Reflection coefficients were also obtained for the boundary of an isotropic medium in the direction of the isotropy plane and possible ways of applying the results were analyzed. Based on the data obtained, we can say that when the azimuth changes relative to the direction of the surface, the reflection coefficients change significantly only at the supercritical angles of incidence.","PeriodicalId":44680,"journal":{"name":"Russian Journal of Earth Sciences","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81174283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this, field monitoring of hazardous processes was carried out according to the methodology developed and tested in the study of the Central Caucasus using technical means (GPS - survey of the study area and measurement of the characteristics of economic objects using a range finder). Based on the monitoring data, a digital cartographic visualization of the results was carried out, and an inventory of the flood and mudflow hazard of the river basin was compiled White. The monitoring results showed that the river basin. Belaya has an average degree of susceptibility to hazardous exogenous natural processes of various types - an average degree for mudflow processes, while the flood hazard can be an order of magnitude higher due to some natural and anthropogenic factors. Therefore, the annual geoecological monitoring of hazardous natural processes is necessary to assess the actual natural hazard of the region under study.","PeriodicalId":44680,"journal":{"name":"Russian Journal of Earth Sciences","volume":"16 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88026191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analysis of variance was used to estimate the degree of influence of the Arctic anticyclone on the state of the centers of action of the atmosphere in the North Atlantic. The influence of the Arctic High on the change in the pressure in the Icelandic minimum and Azores maximum is estimated at 48%. This influence showed not statistical significance, confirmed by Fisher's test. The impact of the circulation systems of the North Atlantic on the Arctic anticyclone is estimated at 7%, and is not statistically significant. A statistically significant correlation was found between the intensity of the Arctic High and the intensity of the Icelandic center of atmospheric action. With the strengthening of the Arctic anticyclone, the Icelandic depression deepen. The correlation coefficient were -0.39. This coefficient is statistically significant.","PeriodicalId":44680,"journal":{"name":"Russian Journal of Earth Sciences","volume":"393 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74305128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A shift in the secondary maximum of the precipitation annual distribution in the low-mountainous part of the region from August to September was found. The wettest years in the highlands in the periods 1966--1978 and 1996--2013 are discovered. The period from the beginning of the current century until now is identified as the wettest in the low-mountain zone. It was found that the trends of seasonal temperatures are positive. At the same time, the dynamics of spring temperatures remained insignificant in the low-mountain zone until 2010. It was revealed that the statistically reliable increase of temperature in February and March and unidirectional tendencies in the daily characteristics of precipitation is the local pattern of the climate change in this part of the North Caucasus. In this season the increase in the average and maximum daily precipitation intensity is reliable.","PeriodicalId":44680,"journal":{"name":"Russian Journal of Earth Sciences","volume":"45 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90737096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
