With the advent of high performance database technologies and real-time big-data processing tools available, CIM oriented database can play important role in the operation and processing of the power system data. As the power system resembles connected-data, the choice of the database technology has to be based on the performance measures such as high-speed data retrieval of the connected-data and efficient storage. This paper presents a CIM oriented graph database (CIMGDB) by the object-graph mapping methodology. The integration of the CIMGDB with power system applications is discussed by the developed implementation architecture. The network topology processing (NTP) application is implemented on the CIMGDB. The NTP is tested on the six IEEE test systems and on one practical power system network. The six IEEE test systems are considered in evaluating and comparing the time complexity of CIMGDB with the CIM oriented relational database framework. The practical power system network is considered to demonstrate the implementation architecture and the CIMGDB integration with power system applications.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115823952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, a model of wind speed distribution is presented by considering the first order origin moment and the second to fourth order central moment of wind speed data as the constraints of the maximum entropy. Secondly, a model of power system reliability assessment is gained by calculating the convolution of probability distributions of wind generation and traditional generation. Finally, the LOLP index is used to evaluate the reliability of the RBTS test system by this method. Results show that this approach cannot only provide an accurate estimation of wind speed distribution, but also improve the accuracy of reliability assessment of wind integrated power systems.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115834253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Raspberry Pi was used as a controller for a co-firing Combined Heat and Power (CHP) generator. The control of the two fuel inputs was validated. It was found that the methodology can minimise the desired objective effectively. In addition, the control arrangement was found to be suitable for controlling an industrial valve which regulates the fuel input to the CHP generator.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124092680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The phase characteristic of the internal impedance is obtained from transient voltage and current waveforms of the battery by DLT (Discrete Laplace Transform). The maximum phase is increased by the deterioration. Since the phase characteristic heavily depends on temperature, a correction method is proposed to diagnose the deterioration of the battery. The proposed battery diagnostic method is independent from a contact resistance having high dependence of the implementation of the battery. The deterioration rate can be estimated from the transient voltage waveform during the operation of the battery-driven equipment. Since non-linear calculation is excluded from the proposed method, the method realizes a diagnosis system at low cost.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114587301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) can be integrated into a network for the analysis and identification of bad data. As PMUs contain a Global Positioning System (GPS) chip, it is possible for them to determine their own location when connected to a network. By creating a Common Information Model (CIM) network model in the cloud, with embedded geographical data, the PMU would be able to connect to this and determine what it is connected to and where in a network it is located. Network data could then be collected and analysed to help identify any points of bad data. Challenges to be overcome include the building of the network model from the available geographical data, the automatic integration of the PMU with the network, and the authentication of the data.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115091604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At present wind energy generation is negligible but has a certain potential for the future, in particular considering the synergy of wind generation and hydro reservoirs. Iceland has large resources compared to the size of it's island economy and with only about 350 thousand inhabitants the amount of energy resources per capita is among the highest in the world for any country. However, as the power system is presently isolated from any larger electricity markets, it is difficult to realize the potential economic benefit or rent of these resources. This rent may to some extent, due to market circumstances, be “locked in” with local utilization such as energy intensive industry. A future interconnector [2] may, however, link to established markets with energy prices independent of these circumstances and renewable energy prices in these markets may be rising in the future rather than declining.","PeriodicalId":446482,"journal":{"name":"2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125779897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
