Different from conventional structures, the proposed structure of rotor consists of a series of discrete segments, and the stator is constructed from two types of stator poles: exciting and auxiliary poles. Furthermore, in this structure short flux paths are taken and no flux reversion exists in the stator. Compared with conventional SRM, the proposed structure increases the electrical utilization of the machine and reduces the core losses, which may leads to a high efficiency. To verify the proposed structure, finite element method (FEM) is employed to get static and dynamic characteristics. Lighting is an important element of expenditure as it is easy to act on it. The Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology opens many perspectives in this field due to its higher energy efficiency. LED could indeed become in a near future a replacement for fluorescent tubes. LED's tubes have specific thermal and electrical needs; this work is focused therefore on optimization studies in terms of association topologies: serial versus parallel. The starting point is electrical equivalent models extracted from single LED. The choice of combinations is guided by the required performance in terms of light quality by paying attention to the overall consumption of the lighting system. The final target is the evaluation of losses reduction when the individual AC/DC conversion circuits integrated in the lamp bases are replaced by a DC/DC global distribution scheme. The proposed energy control is an adaptive current-voltage control (ACVC) scheme based on the moving average measurement technique and an adaptive proportional compensator. Unlike conventional energy control methods, the proposed ACVC approach has the advantages of controlling both voltage and current of the system while it keep the output current of the power converter at a relatively constant value. For this study, a laboratory scale hybrid dc microgrid is developed to evaluate the performance of the ACVC strategy and to compare its performance with the other conventional energy control methods. Using experimental test results, it is shown that the proposed strategy highly improves the dynamic performance of the hybrid dc microgrid. Although the ACVC technique causes slightly more bus voltage variation, it effectively eliminates the high current and power pulsation of the power converters. In mining a considerable attention is paid to cost optimization per ton of material moved. Therefore, there is a continuous push to use more efficient machines and systems. Electric dragline is the largest excavating machine used in mining, with the least cost per ton and the highest productivity. Any improvement of their electrical system would result in a significant energy saving. On the other hand, DC distribution is an effective method of power delivery which offers a number of advantages including lower electric losses, integration of small distributed generation, better power quality and stability. In this paper, draglines are considered as a case study to verify feasibility of DC distribution systems, in both delivery to a dragline across the mine site and power distribution inside the dragline. Several scenarios are considered, showing the advantages of DC power distribution for DC-based draglines, AC-based draglines, and for effective transition from DC- to AC-based. It will be shown that 12-15% efficiency improvement can be achieved by using the DC distribution system. The proposed platform is based on a decoupled half-bridge inverter. The proposed platform ensures true parallel lamp operation and maintains constant current through each lamp even when lamps are extremely unbalanced. The proposed platform ensures good preheat and steady state filament heating in dimming by using independent PWM type filament heating control method. The proposed platform can be applied to drive different types of lamps in one design. The proposed platform ensures half-bridge MOSFETs soft-switching all the time. Mathematical analysis of the proposed platform is discussed in the paper. With urban development and buildings growth adjacent to power systems as HV/MV substations, it is very rare to have area around with sufficient accessibility for installing the potential and current electrodes. This paper discusses a safety criterion to verify the efficiency of a grounding system. Such reactors are very useful in the first melting period. With the molten scrap, the absence of the series reactor would allow higher power transfer to the EAF, reducing the tap-to-tap cycle, thus increasing productivity. This paper proposes an active series reactor based on static power converters, which has the flexibility to dynamically change its impedance value during the steel production period. The proposed program start ballast has a resonant filament heating circuit with clamped Q. The proposed resonant filament heating circuit gives the ballast strong filament preheat capability, desensitizes the preheat voltage variation within a reasonable range of preheat frequency and cuts the filament heating back in full bright. Moreover, the proposed circuit makes the filament heating voltage insensitive to component value changes. The proposed low cost program-start fluorescent ballast improves the system efficacy and effectively solves the large pin current problem. Mathematical analysis of the filament drive tank with clamped Q is described in detail. Simulation and experimental results for two and one T5 28W lamp loads are presented to validate the analysis.
