As Gestalt therapists, we had to change our way of being, our way of working, and move to online therapy. This reflective article explores the aspects and relevance of Gestalt therapy during the pandemic. The personal and the professional being of the Gestalt therapist during this chaotic and uncertain time is discussed. The aesthetic dimension of the therapeutic encounter is explored, however briefly, through the framework of theories of embodied simulation and embodied metaphors. This special focus on embodiment is then taken as meaning-making through the use of poetry as metaphor. Finally, the therapeutic value of poetry is discussed, along with its application during Gestalt group training.","PeriodicalId":444860,"journal":{"name":"Gestalt Review","volume":"168 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114733662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three perspectives on understanding the process of change used in Gestalt therapy are set forth in a systematic way: mono-personal, bi-personal, and field theory. Changes in psychotherapy in clinical practice, conceptualized from a field theory perspective, are addressed in order to support both the growing edge of contemporary Gestalt therapy and to add a Gestalt therapy contribution to the current emphasis on field theory in psychotherapy. The Paradoxical Theory of Change, as the leading theoretical concept for Gestalt therapy theory of change, is reconsidered from a field theory perspective, and the consequences for clinical work are addressed.","PeriodicalId":444860,"journal":{"name":"Gestalt Review","volume":"421 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134542607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevis's (1987) book, Organizational Consulting: A Gestalt Approach. At the start of the chapter, Nevis states categorically that “the role of the interventionist is to provide a presence that is otherwise lacking in the client system” (69). He argues that presence is central to the Gestalt approach and key to appreciating the inherent educational model. In particular, he argues that the intervener's task is to embody and exude a way of being that demonstrates core values, healthy functioning, and what it might mean to be helpful.","PeriodicalId":444860,"journal":{"name":"Gestalt Review","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125008360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
