In the case of armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) various technologies are being used in the state-of-the-art radio communication equipment being offered for fitment on them. There is thus a need to first monitor the various parameters of the radio equipment in the laboratories and thereafter subject the equipment to environmental evaluation in a manner realistic to the envisaged operational scenario. Viskushenko","doi":"10.1109/ICEMIC.1997.669771","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICEMIC.1997.669771","url":null,"abstract":"Much attention has been devoted to the problem of ensuring hardware electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) since the USSR Technical Committee on Standardization and its basic organisation-State Center on Metrology, Standardization and Certification in the EMC field have been established. More than 50 normative documents on EMC have been worked out. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the break of economical and organizational ties great problems in the EMC field appeared in the Republic of Belarus. By the end of 1996 Belarus was in a situation when both the government and the State Standard did not give much attention to the problem of EMC. There were no centralized guidance and coordination in directions of activities of various companies in the Republic. In order to eliminate these defects the EMC Technical Committee attached to the Agency for accrediting test laboratories and centers was set up is March 1997 composed of 15 leading specialists of the republic from the following ministries: Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Internal Affairs. Based on this Technical Committee a national Technical Committee for Standardization in the EMC field was established in November 1997. However, unexpected problems due to electromagnetic emissions or susceptibility could also be engendered when such equipment are employed in military systems. In order to minimise the potential negatives due to the use of COTS equipment, it is necessary to analyse the causes of expected/unexpected problems and develop a methodology to eliminate these. Keeping in view the prevalent commercial and military standards, and also the available components and technologies utilised in COTS equipment, an integrated approach needs to be adopted, for gainful employment of such equipment in military systems. The integrated approach will essentially include efforts both from the commercial manufacturers and military consumers and would essentially involve identification of mission critical/non-mission critical equipment, examination of commercial and military standards, acceptance of available technologies with a view for further upgrades and finally marrying the military requirements to that of COTS equipment characteristics.","PeriodicalId":444507,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility '99 (IEEE Cat. This is digitized and introduced to the array elements with the use of digital phase shifters in fast scanning and beam changing applications. However, these phase shifters introduce quantization errors on the radiation patterns. Such errors/effects on sidelobe suppressed (SLS) difference patterns generated using the phase only control method are not available in the open literature. Plane-wave simulation of the radiated electromagnetic fields is done through the quasi-transverse electromagnetic (TEM) bound fields of the transmission line. An active volume of 300 mm (L)/spl times/150 mm (W)/spl times/50 mm (H) is chosen for electronic subsystems' and components' hardness/vulnerability assessment. This method makes possible the automated control of the characteristics and parameters of the electromagnetic compatibility of receivers as well as highly informative visualization of control results. Possible ways to implement the method for double frequency testing with the use of the automated double frequency test system (DFTS) built around conventional controlling and measuring equipment are outlined. Basic functionalities of the method for double frequency testing, which make possible automated detection and identification of all possible paths of the interference impact on the receiver antenna input and measurement of their parameters are described. There is a substantial difference between military and civil or commercial EMI/EMC standards, specifications and measurement procedures. Accordingly, the EMC compliance test facilities are setup in three ways, namely: (a) for military equipment, (b) for civil equipment and (c) for both military and civil equipment. The requirements of EMC test facility for military equipment, subsystems or systems are emphasised. Peripheral blood was collected from each of the 6 subjects and exposed for one hr to 5 different magnetic densities (2 mT, 3 mT, 5 mT, 7 mT, 10 mT, rms) at 50 Hz, in addition to the control. The blood samples were processed for comet assay. Comet-tail length was measured in 50 cells per treatment per individual. The data were pooled for 6 subjects for each flux density of magnetic field tested. When compared with the control value, there was a significant increase in the DNA damage for each flux density. Since an increase in genomic instability is an indicator of deleterious effects on health, it may be concluded that chronic exposure to the doses used in the present study may result in an increased incidence of congenital malformations and cancer.","PeriodicalId":444507,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility '99 (IEEE Cat.
