In humans, almost half of the total HA concentrates in the skin, but its availability decreases with age. Therefore, topical exogenous supplies of HA can reduce the aging process of the skin and can represent a valid alternative to the costly and invasive treatments based on injectable HA-based fillers. However, for cosmetically effective topical preparations, it is crucial to determine the properties favouring percutaneous HA penetration, such as HA molecular weight (MW). Therefore, the ability of 12 HA molecules with different MWs to penetrate the skin using an in vitro model was examined. Materials and Methods: The Franz diffusion cell experimental system was used to estimate the penetration of the HA molecules across three epidermal tissues. The relationship between MW and penetration was inspected by applying a Pearson’s correlation test.","PeriodicalId":443925,"journal":{"name":"JOJ Dermatology & Cosmetics","volume":"169 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139357826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lightening the human mind’s way of function has always been a challenge and has attracted medical interest through the years. Psychodermatology has recently received attention because different mechanisms of psychoneuroimmunology are being explored. They can successfully explain different clinical presentations and drug therapy. Awareness, recognizing important risk factors (suicide, serious self-harm, other people harm, child abuse, and neglect), associated psychiatric diagnoses, adequate screening, seeking a specialized referral, and reasonable security measures should be on focus. The proper management needs a multidisciplinary team, including the dermatologist, the psychiatrist, the family physician, and the social support.","PeriodicalId":443925,"journal":{"name":"JOJ Dermatology & Cosmetics","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122484095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients with Gorlin-Goltz syndrome develop commonly multiple odontogenic keratocysts around the age of 20, and basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) especially in middle-aged patients. The diagnosis of GS is based on clinical, radiological, and genetic elements. The criteria reported by Kimonis et al. [2] are the most used. This method includes six major criteria: basal cell carcinoma, palmar plantar small depression, jaw bone cyst, rib abnormalities, calcified falx cerebri, and family history of the disease within the first degree; and six minor criteria: macrocephaly, ovarian fibromas, congenital malformation, skeletal abnormalities, X-ray abnormalities, and medulloblastomas. Follow these criteria, we can make a diagnosis when the patient presents two major criteria, or one major and two minor criteria [2]. The confirm of the diagnosis is related to gene mutation analysis. So genetic counseling is mandatory after genetic diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":443925,"journal":{"name":"JOJ Dermatology & Cosmetics","volume":"187 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133162994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HCC is difficult to diagnosis due to it requiring the use of multiple imaging modalities with the goal to detect tumors when they are less than or equal to 2 cm in size to allow all possible treatment options to be used. Herein, we discuss a 69-year-old male with stage IV liver cancer residing in hospice presenting with left middle finger osteomyelitis and extreme pain. Radiology revealed a destructive lesion, but pathology provided the diagnosis of metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma in his finger. Even though HCC can be diagnosed on imaging alone, this case highlights the need for biopsy to provide an accurate diagnosis","PeriodicalId":443925,"journal":{"name":"JOJ Dermatology & Cosmetics","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130861076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the procedures for improving this region must be combined to optimize the result. The use of polydioxanone (PDO) threads has been increasing in cosmetic dermatology in the last few years. Different types of threads, barbed, molded, non-barbed, straight, screwed, filler, etc., are available in the market bringing new options for treatment. Here, we want to present a new technique using a particular type of PDO thread, called solid filler thread, which was developed to fill folds in the face, replacing hyaluronic acid (HA) gel in some cases. Based on its purpose, it could also act as HA filler for myomodulation with the advantage of not promoting volume next to modiolus. In our technique, we associated HA filler gel in the areas where volume was desired, such as lips and mental area. We will report some cases to illustrate our technique and show the improvement in static and dynamic wrinkles, restructuring the oral region.","PeriodicalId":443925,"journal":{"name":"JOJ Dermatology & Cosmetics","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127059536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This disorder represents a significant diagnostic and management challenge, given that it has different forms of clinical presentation, associated comorbidities, and high rates of therapeutic resistance. Early diagnosis is of crucial importance in impacting the prognosis of the disease. Typical treatment includes the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, and the use of biological medicines. Currently, multiple biological therapies have proven to be advantageous in managing psoriatic arthritis, but they have not been fully approved for use in routine clinical practice. Therefore, in this article, we aim to provide an overview of the role of new biological therapies for the management of psoriatic arthritis.","PeriodicalId":443925,"journal":{"name":"JOJ Dermatology & Cosmetics","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126645043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Warts, especially located at pressure points, could be painful, but in general they are asymptomatic. Treatment is not always necessary but when multiple lesions, pain, immunosuppression and discomfort are present therapeutic intervention could be mandatory. Chemical or physical destructions are commonly used for the treatment of CW. Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen is a common clinician-administered treatment. The most relevant drawbacks of this procedure are the pain associated with treatment, the need of several sessions and the recurrence of new lesion. Salicylic acid (SA) applied under tape occlusion is a convenient, effective, and safe therapy of CW, even if no effective as cryotherapy. So far, there are few data regarding the efficacy and safety of the sequential treatment of CW with cryotherapy followed by a 10-day treatment course with SA. Study Design: We evaluated in a case-control study the clinical efficacy of cryotherapy alone and cryotherapy with SA in adult immunocompetent subjects with common or plantar warts.","PeriodicalId":443925,"journal":{"name":"JOJ Dermatology & Cosmetics","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127838146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is initiated by intracellular transmission of a parasite to humans, by sand fly bite. Factors like population variability, climate change etc. lead to the expansion of this disease. This article provides review of epidemiology and management of leishmaniasis i.e., cutaneous, mucosal, and visceral. Literature was studied by systematic exploration in PubMed including various articles from 2012-2022 without setting any exclusion criteria. There have been reports of development of strains, resistant to traditional therapy of leishmaniasi, along with simultaneous infections like HIV/Leishmania spp., and other targeted pharmaceutical resources i.e., amphotericin B and formulations, miltefosine, pentavalent antimonials. Since long, only few drugs are available for the management of the disease, having adverse effects and toxicity due to which the treatment control program is put in check globally. New strategies are required to manage this neglected disease adequately.","PeriodicalId":443925,"journal":{"name":"JOJ Dermatology & Cosmetics","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133256432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
