Our basic strategy is to first represent the shape structure of the target in each frame by pseudo Endoskeleton Reeb Graph (pERG) which we compute by using geodesic distance between vertices on the target's surface, and then estimate the kinematic structure of the target that is consistent with these shape structures. Although the shape structures can be very different from frame to frame, we propose to derive a unique kinematic structure by way of clustering nodes of a graph, based on the fact that they are partly coherent to a certain extent of time series. The only assumption we make is that the human body can be approximated by an articulated body with certain numbers of end-points and branches. We demonstrate the efficacy and the limitation of the proposed scheme through experiments.","PeriodicalId":443068,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Education and Research for Knowledge-Circulating Society (icks 2008)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131167969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data Mining and Applied Linear Algebra 数据挖掘与应用线性代数

{"title":"Data Mining and Applied Linear Algebra","authors":"M. Chu","doi":"10.1109/ICKS.2008.39","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICKS.2008.39","url":null,"abstract":"In this era of hyper-technological innovation, massive amounts of data are being generated at almost every level of applications in almost every area of disciplines. Extracting interesting knowledge from raw data, or data mining in a broader sense, has become an indispensable task. Nevertheless, data collected from complex phenomena represent often the integrated result of several interrelated variables, whereas these variables are less precisely defined. The basic principle of data mining is to distinguish which variable is related to which and how the variables are related. In many situations, the digitized information is gathered and stored as a data matrix. It is often the case, or so assumed, that the exogenous variables depend on the endogenous variables in a linear relationship. Retrieving \"useful\" information therefore can often be characterized as finding \"suitable\" matrix factorization. This paper offers a synopsis from this prospect on how linear algebra techniques can help to carry out the task of data mining. Examples from factor analysis, cluster analysis, latent semantic indexing and link analysis are used to demonstrate how matrix factorization helps to uncover hidden connection and do things fast. Low rank matrix approximation plays a fundamental role in cleaning the data and compressing the data. Other types of constraints, such as nonnegativity, will also be briefly discussed.","PeriodicalId":443068,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Education and Research for Knowledge-Circulating Society (icks 2008)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114726545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ogata, Kazunori Komatani","doi":"10.1109/ICKS.2008.10","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICKS.2008.10","url":null,"abstract":"We have been engaged in research on computational auditory scene analysis to attain sophisticated robot/computer human interaction by manipulating real-world sound signals. The objective of our research is the understanding of an arbitrary sound mixture including music and environmental sounds as well as voiced speech, obtained by robot's ears (microphones) embedded on the robot. Three main issues in computational auditory scene analysis are sound source localization, separation, and recognition of separated sounds for a mixture of speech signals as well as polyphonic music signals. The Missing Feature Theory (MFT) approach integrates sound source separation and automatic speech recognition by generating missing feature masks. This robot audition system has been successfully ported to three kinds of robots, SIG2, Robovie R2 and Honda ASIMO. A robot recognizes three simultaneous speeches such as placing a meal order or a referee for Rock- Paper-Scissors Sound Games with a delay of less than 2 seconds. The real-time beat tracking system is also developed for robot audition. A robot hears music, understands and predicts its musical beats to behave in accordance with the beat times in real-time.","PeriodicalId":443068,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Education and Research for Knowledge-Circulating Society (icks 2008)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124952688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All the species of the projects are heavily endangered and need sufficient degree of protection. They are listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) Appendix I. However, very little is known of the species whilst the implementation of their conservation is a pressing problem in Thailand and neighboring ASEAN countries. Field informatics with bio-logging including satellite telemetry, ultrasonic telemetry, GPS and advanced data-loggers will be a powerful tool to clarify the ecology of the endangered species in order to realize co-existence between human beings and the endangered species.","PeriodicalId":443068,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Education and Research for Knowledge-Circulating Society (icks 2008)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125170056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

XML information retrieval (XML-IR) systems are required to take these nature of XML documents into consideration. Because of these natures, top-k search is not suitable for XML-IR. We introduce new concepts of benefit and reading effort of elements. By using these concepts, we propose a new dynamic ranking method that enables us to browse search results of XML-IR systems efficiently. We also study how to display the search results of XML-IR systems. If XML document was original composed of paper image pages, such as scholarly articles or books, it would be natural to display result elements by overlaying them on the physical layout of pages in the user interfaces. We propose methods for displaying the result of XML search of scholarly articles and ranking methods based on page units.","PeriodicalId":443068,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Education and Research for Knowledge-Circulating Society (icks 2008)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124846673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Designing Algorithms with Multi-sphere Scheme 基于多球面格式的算法设计

{"title":"Designing Algorithms with Multi-sphere Scheme","authors":"T. Imamichi, H. Nagamochi","doi":"10.1109/ICKS.2008.22","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICKS.2008.22","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper, we deal with a packing problem that asks to place a given set of objects such as non-convex poly- topes or objects with curved surfaces in a container in R2 or R3 so that the resulting layout of the objects has no penetration of the objects and no protrusion of the objects from the container. Imamichi and Nagamochi proposed a new algorithm scheme, called multi-sphere scheme, which first approximates each object by a set of spheres and finds a layout with no overlap as a local optimal solution of an unconstraint nonlinear program for the sets of shperes. We focus on the case that all objects are rigid, and describe how to design algorithms with the scheme when motions of objects are specified. We handle three variations of motions of objects: \"translation,\" \"translation with a fixed direction,\" and \"translation and rotation by an arbitrary angle.\" We then develop an iterated local search algorithm combining a local search algorithm based on a nonlinear program and perturbation that swaps two objects for the case where \"translation and rotation by an arbitrary angle\" is allowed. Computational experiments disclose our algorithm can find a layout with nearly no penetration and protrusion quickly.","PeriodicalId":443068,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Education and Research for Knowledge-Circulating Society (icks 2008)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129119674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
