The current work presents a dedicated review on U-WRB for human rescue operations subjected to drowning. The review from year 1996 to 2018 highlights the key factors such as advantages and limitations of the developed U-WRB’s. Having completed the review, the work further proposes new research pathways that could be beneficial to the scientific community living in the new norm; COVID-19 where minimal contact between humans are of concern when it comes to human rescue operations. Possible new research pathways include but not limited to the type of sensors used, material selection, incorporation of state-of-the-art attachments to the U-WRB and customizable attachments to the main unit based on a given real time rescue operation are proposed.","PeriodicalId":441201,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Technology and Applied Physics","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115397119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, maintaining low leakage current in the device is serious issue for minimizing overall power consumption of the circuit and improving the battery life. The conventional Metal Oxide Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) requires at least 60 mV of gate voltage for better current drive at room temperature which is difficult to achieve due to thermal limit. This limitation of gate voltage requirement degrades the performance of the device at lower VDD. Tunnel Field Effect Transistor (TFET) is a potential candidate to replace CMOS in deep-submicron region due to its lower subthreshold slope SS (< 60 mV/decade) at room temperature. Steep switching in TFET can extend the supply voltage scaling with improved energy efficiency for both digital and analog applications. Despite those advantages, TFETs are suffering from lower ON current and larger ambipolar current. To overcome these shortcomings, a new structure, known as Hetero-dielectric gate TFET (HDG TFET), has been proposed in the literature. Since, in the absence of the compact analytical model, it is difficult to understand the electrical behaviour of the HDG TFET device, therefore, the present paper presents an analytical model of transconductance parameter of HDG TFET device. The electrical performance analysis of HDG TFET device reflects that on current can be increased considerably by choosing gate material of higher work function near the source region which also suppresses the ambipolar current. It is also observed that a thinner silicon film and larger drain bias result in larger transconductance value.","PeriodicalId":441201,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Technology and Applied Physics","volume":"310 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116610358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various formulations of the strain-based elements can be seen in the literature. However, most of them do not clearly describe selection of the suitable strain fields for the elements. Therefore, in this work, some guidance for the formulation of strain-based elements are provided based on simulation results that are obtained by using several polynomial functions from Pascal’s triangle. It is seen that higher order terms in the strain functions do not always guarantee better performance for the case considered in this work.","PeriodicalId":441201,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Technology and Applied Physics","volume":"5 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130099246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Remote sensing technology has been used globally in many different fields and one of the most popular area of study that uses remote sensing technology is snow monitoring. In previous researches, remote sensing has been modelled on snow area to study the scattering mechanisms of various scattering processes. In this paper, surface volume second order term that was dropped in previous study is derived, included and studied to observe the improvement in the surface volume backscattering coefficient. This new model is applied on snow layer above ground and the snow layer is modelled as a volume of ice particles as the Mie scatterers that are closely packed and bounded by irregular boundaries. Various parameters are used to investigate the improvement of adding the new term. Results show improvement in cross-polarized return, for all the range of parameters studied. Comparison is made with the field measurement result from U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in 1990. Close agreement is shown between developed model and data field backscattering coefficient result.","PeriodicalId":441201,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Technology and Applied Physics","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116631671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measurement of soil resistivity is greatly influenced by moisture content, temperature, porosity, degree of saturation, number of soil layer(s), and frequency of lightning current. Researchers have proposed various methodologies to provide an approximation of soil resistivity using the listed parameters. In order to ease the process of estimating soil resistivity at a particular area, there is a pressing need to devise a simple tool that enables the calculation of soil resistivity in the most accurate manner. As such, this research proposes a reliable tool for quick evaluation of soil resistivity based on various methodologies using Microsoft Excel’s built-in-functions and Visual Basic Application (VBA) Next, the developed tool was validated using two methods, in which the output value of the calculator was compared with data retrieved from IEEE Std 142-2007 and data reported in past studies. The validation results revealed that the developed calculator may serve as a significant application in future due to its time-saving and cost-effective attributes.","PeriodicalId":441201,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Technology and Applied Physics","volume":"76 10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126018428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent times, Global positioning system (GPS) has been cooperated with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to come out with better accuracy quality in positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services to locate a device. However, such localization service is yet to reach any indoor facility. For an indoor surveillance vision based patrol robot, such limitation hinders its path planning capabilities that allows the patrol robot to seek for the optimum path to reach the appointed destination and return back to its home position. In this paper, a vision based indoor surveillance patrol robot using sensory manipulation technique is presented and an extended Dijkstra algorithm is proposed for the patrol robot path planning. The design of the patrol robot adopted visual type sensor, range sensors and Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU) system to impulsively update the map’s data in line with the patrol robot’s current path and utilize the path planning features to carry out obstacle avoidance and re-routing process in accordance to the obstacle’s type met by the patrol robot. The result conveyed by such approach certainly managed to complete multiple cycles of testing with positive result.","PeriodicalId":441201,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Engineering Technology and Applied Physics","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123140287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
