Ultimately, this leads to an increased failure rates in this module. On the other hand, even the faculties are having strenuous time teaching this module. The main aim of the case study is to assess and determine the different learning styles of first year students from Bachelors of engineering in Information Technology (BE1IT). And then, know the majority of the students’ preferred learning style so that the faculties teaching C programming language are made aware about the findings. And also, recommend the faculty to re-design their pedagogical material to cater students as per their various learning styles. The VARK learning style inventory was adopted for the study which consists of 17 questionnaires. A class of BE1IT with 40 students comprising of 16 female and 24 male students were the participants. All the students were asked to take into consideration of themselves in how they learn best with the module - C programming language and then accordingly attempt those questionnaires and the data was collected. The study showed that majority of the students are kinaesthetic learner irrespective of the genders. The faculty teaching the first year students need to understand that this method may be helpful in helping the students learn better. The pedagogical materials used to teach them may be one of the factor which is not helping them to learn better as it is not correlating with their learning styles. After having known the different type of learners, the faculty were made aware of the findings and were recommended to re-design their pedagogy and andragogy materials accordingly to cater all the students’ learning. Due to increase in power demand, modern power system networks are being operated under highly stressed conditions. This has resulted to difficulty in meeting reactive power requirement especially under planned or sudden changes in voltages, and hence maintaining the bus voltage within acceptable limits has been a major challenge in the power system network, hence the need for this paper which led to the introduction of Static Synchronous Series Compensator into the Nigeria National Grid (NNG) network for the improvement in electric power transmission . The 330kV 58 bus NNG was modeled in PSAT and implemented in Matlab/Simulink for the compensation of the identified voltage violated buses. Transmission network data obtained from Transmission Company of Nigerian (TCN) Osogbo and was used to model the test network. Result of simulations of the network models reveal that STATCOM reasonably improved the voltage stability of the violated buses in the Nigeria network. The insertion of the STATCOM gave 100% improvement in voltage stability relative to a network without any device.","PeriodicalId":440930,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Engineering and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129856495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To face this challenge, a system needs to be developed that can monitor real time output water settling ponds, so that early warning can be provided if the settling pond requires special handling, to the team in charge. Currently water quality monitoring is still done manually, namely by doing water sampling and quality testing manually. This stage uses at least 12 teams to supervise 18 active, controlled settling ponds 24 hours and 7 days a week. In the implementation there were quite a number of challenges faced, apart from the fact that the Settling Pond location was quite far away so that it took quite a long time to reach the location. The applicable laws and regulations state that mine water management must not exceed the required environmental quality standard (BML) so that fast information is needed to be able to know water quality.","PeriodicalId":440930,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Engineering and Applications","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128263895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Modal/Eigenvalue analysis technique was used to investigate the stability of the 48-bus Nigerian power network system. The modal method calculates the smallest eigenvalue and all the associated eigenvectors of the Jacobian matrix using the steady state mode. The magnitude of the smallest eigenvalue estimates the proximity of the system to the voltage instability. The participation factor can be employed to identify the bus that provides the highest contribution to the instability of the system. The 48-bus Nigerian network was simulated under static loads and changing loads and Modal/Eigenvalue analysis was performed on the system under each of these conditions. It was found that increase in loads at the three selected weakest buses reduced the stability of the system. Results obtained in this study proved that reactive power compensators were able to drastically improve the stability profile of the 48 bus Nigerian network and even rescue the system at the event of voltage instability especially the ones caused by change in loads. SDG is significant in realizing sustainable economic development in Nigeria. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have made landmark innovational trends in empowering data governance globally. Despite these global impacts of ICT on data governance, numerous investigations have shown that poor sustainability of ICT in Nigeria poses barriers that impede progress related to data governance. SDG which is the pivot for economic growth has remained relatively nonexistence or unattended to due to corrupt policies and practices, ignorance, and illiteracy that plagued sustainable ICT innovations in Nigeria. For this study, the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) was adopted as the conceptual framework. UTAUT model claims that the benefits of using technology and the factors that drive users’ decision to use it, is what determines users’ acceptance behavior. In this study, the authors explored a narrative review, analysis, and synthesis of prior research that focused on the theoretical underpinnings of vast works of literature that revealed significant information on the impact of sustainable ICT on Sustainable Data Governance in Nigeria. The authors also extracted peer-reviewed articles within the last five years from electronic databases, using some keywords such as “ICT and SDG”, “ICT and national economic development”, “Trends for ICT”, etc. The result of this study revealed that strict adherence to policies, laws, and guidelines on the adoption of ICT coupled with good formulation and communication of same, are the major impact of sustainable ICT that can leverage SDG in Nigeria. The result from this study may increase understanding, minimize corrupt practices and encourage trust in ICT innovations, ICT adoption, its acceptance and sustainability that can positively impact SDG and national economic development in Nigerian. Also, its ambiguity in forecast at early stage of software development makes the process more complicated. The early estimation of maintainability will significantly help software designers to adjust the software product, if there is any fault, in early stages of designing. By doing this; time, effort and money required in maintaining software will be lessened. Although Object Oriented Software Development (OOSD) approach is equipped for enhancing software maintainability, a method for finding out if the required level of maintenance is being achieved amid the development process is required. This can be accomplished through measurement. This paper outlines the need and importance of maintainability at design phase and develops a Metrics-Based Maintainability Estimation Framework for Object-Oriented software(MEFOOS) that estimates the maintainability of object oriented software components in regard of their Understandability, Modifiability and Portability—which are the sub-attributes of maintainability. Organization enterprises are increasingly becoming competitive, with widespread cyberloafing and lawsuits. Through IT and Internet usage, employees may compromise an organization’s confidential information, deliberately or inadvertently. Such concerns prompt companies to introduce employee monitoring to preserve the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of system resources, track employee performance, avoid legal liability, protect trade secrets, and address security concerns. Despite these laudable benefits, employees feel that monitoring is an invasion of their privacy rights. For this study, organizational ethics and major ethical principles of respect for persons, beneficence, and justice representing the key ethical concerns for human subject protection in research were fully adopted as identified in The Belmont Report of 1979. In this study, the authors explored a narrative review, analysis, and synthesis of prior researches that focused on monitoring of employee IT and Internet usage. The authors also extracted peer-reviewed articles within the last five years from electronic databases, using some search keys such as “employee monitoring”, “legal and ethical issues”, “impact of employee monitoring on economic sustainability”, etc. The result of this study revealed that developing an acceptable monitoring policy will keep both employer and employee on the same page as to what is acceptable in the workplace along with what isn’t. This result may further explain the need for employee monitoring, address the legal and ethical issues involved when monitoring employees in a work environment, and provide strategies and practices for acceptable monitoring policy for improved organizational performance and sustainable economic development. Minority classes are treated as outliers’ classes. The study used cross-industry process for data mining methodology. A heterogeneous multiclass ensemble was developed by combining several strategies and ensemble techniques. The datasets used were drawn from UCI machine learning repository. Experiments for validating the model were conducted and represented in form of tables and figures. An ensemble filter selection method was developed and used for preprocessing datasets. Point-outliers were filtered using Inter quartile range filter algorithm. Datasets were resampled using Synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) algorithm. Multiclass datasets were transformed to binary classes using OnevsOne decomposing technique. An Ensemble model was developed using adaboost and random subspace algorithms utilizing random forest as the base classifier. The classifiers built were combined using voting methodology. The model was validated with classification and outlier metric performance measures such as Recall, Precision, F-measure and AUCROC values. The classifiers were evaluated using 10 fold stratified cross validation. The model showed better performance in terms of outlier detection and classification prediction for multiclass problem. The model outperformed other well-known existing classification and outlier detection algorithms such as Naive bayes, KNN, Bagging, JRipper, Decision trees, RandomTree and Random forest.
