This study aims to provide considerations and insights for architects and relevant professionals for designing office façades. This will be achieved through conducting a trial on a software design program with the aim of overcoming high energy costs and optimizing interior thermal comfort of occupants. The exploration builds upon former studies that stressed the significance of façade design in achieving optimal thermal comfort and energy effectiveness. Accordingly, the research adopts a comprehensive experimental approach that incorporates building simulation using a design program (Rhino and Design Builder) based on recommendations from former studies. The program encompasses factors such as window-to-wall ratios, shading systems, glazing options, office façade exposure, and interior partition types. The trial involves the development of computer-generated mock office model of parametric façade design and other façade design configurations. The temperature, moisture, and energy consumption are then measured and analysed for each design alternative. This exploration contributes to the advancement of sustainable design practices in Egypt by providing valuable information and insights for designing office façades. Architects, engineers, and relevant professionals can utilize these findings in the design process to optimize the energy efficiency of office spaces in Egypt, offering a more comfortable and productive space for users.","PeriodicalId":440630,"journal":{"name":"MSA Engineering Journal","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114835747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Visually impaired children tend to suffer from physical barriers in schools, due to the existing architectural visual dominance. The main research problem is that the inclusive school design criteria usually address the aspects of safety and accidents avoidance, not giving enough attention to the spatial experience. In this study, the relation between existing inclusive school guidelines for the visually impaired and the visually impaired perceptual tools is analysed. The results show how the design criteria that depends on non-visual spatial design details affect the spatial perception of the visually impaired children, and the strength of relationship between the available guidelines and spatial perception. It also prioritizes the guidelines based on their importance in relation to the visually impaired perception. The results can help school designers to enhance the visually impaired spatial experience by knowing which perceptual attribute to address.","PeriodicalId":440630,"journal":{"name":"MSA Engineering Journal","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123999524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The traffic congestion in Cairo costs the Egyptian economy 3.6% of the gross national product (According to the report of the World Bank Group), which represents a large and remarkable percentage. The traffic congestion in Greater Cairo had resulted from several factors, including misdistribution of land uses for services and the changes and modifications that were applied later, including educational services, as well as the expansion and great diversity of educational programs for international and foreign private schools. Such schools differ in terms of education quality from traditional schools, as well as the diversity in school activities and the financial level of students. The afore factors have created a large gap compared to education in public schools and also a desire among parents to enrol their children in distinguished schools despite their distance from their residence areas. This concept has led to increasing the service scope of those schools where it could be more than 40 km, which contributed in increasing traffic density on roads as a result of various means of transportation. Using means of transportation other than school buses to transport students had reduced safety and reliability factors and increased traffic density on those roads. School transport represents a large proportion of traffic trips on the main and secondary roads in Greater Cairo. This coincides with the morning rush hours and","PeriodicalId":440630,"journal":{"name":"MSA Engineering Journal","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128421279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
