This condition occurs in adults around the age of 65 or older. The pathogenesis of the disease is multifactorial, including inflammatory processes that take into account the breakdown of articular cartilage, the formation of bone osteophytes, and sclerotization of the subchondral tissue. The risk factors include age, obesity, and diabetes. Cryotherapy is one of the methods of analysis in the instructions for gonarthrosis. One of the methods in the treatment of osteoarthritis is cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is a non-invasive procedure that uses cold air used locally or systemically. Cold treatments slow down blood circulation, reduce swelling and contribute to pain relief. Aim of the research: To demonstrate the positive effect of local cryotherapy on reducing pain and swelling of the knee joints in patients with gonarthrosis. Material and methods: The study involved 74 people, women and men aged 18–89, who underwent local cryotherapy for knee joints due to pain and joint swelling. The research method was an anonymous survey. Results: Reduction of edema after the application of local cryotherapy treatments occurred in 91.1% of patients. 79.7% of the respondents noticed an improvement in the range of motion. 82.4% of the patients improved their knee mobility. Conclusions: Cryotherapy as a single treatment or in combination with other treatments is an effective method of treating knee joint pain in patients with degenerative disease","PeriodicalId":44061,"journal":{"name":"Medical Studies-Studia Medyczne","volume":"357 1","pages":"122-125"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76511299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a heterogenous clinical entity with a complex aetiology and always requires a challenging work-up. The final diagnosis may confirm any coronary pathology (dissection, spasm, thrombus) or significantly differ from the previous one (myocarditis, takotsubo cardiomyopathy). This paper focuses on the current knowledge on MINOCA, guidelines on the management of patients, and indicates new research areas to further elucidate this issue. The most important message is that MINOCA is a serious condition with outcomes at least as serious as in myocardial infarction resulting from coronary atherosclerosis.","PeriodicalId":44061,"journal":{"name":"Medical Studies-Studia Medyczne","volume":"11 1","pages":"332-336"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78657545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The awareness level about the proper techniques of BLS is questionable among medical personnel. Aim of the research: This prospective observational study was conducted to assess the awareness level of the basic resuscitation principles in Southwest Iran. Material and methods: The aspects that were asked in this questionnaire include the following items: the basic resuscitation stages, and methods of assessment and resuscitation with regard to airway, respiration, and blood circulation in the victims according to age group. Results: In total, 202 people employed in the hospital participated in this study. The mean scores of those who had already completed BLS education was 8.45 ±2.42 and in the individuals who had heard about these technique it was 7.31 ±2.71 (p = 0.002). This relation was statistically significant. The knowledge of specialised assistants was significantly higher than health care providers and their assistants as well as medical intern groups (p < 0.001). In addition, the knowledge of nursing experts was significantly higher than the health care providers and their assistants (p = 0.004) and medical interns (p = 0.002). Conclusions: This study showed that the awareness level of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation principles among different health care departments (health care providers, nurses, and physicians) is low, and holding education courses with a minimum of 6-month intervals is necessary. In addition, for medical interns, basic medical education should start from basic medical sciences.","PeriodicalId":44061,"journal":{"name":"Medical Studies-Studia Medyczne","volume":"50 1","pages":"203-210"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88970811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The burnout syndrome constitutes a serious personal and social problem whose cause lies in the workplace or is work-related. Aim of the research: To assess occupational burnout of nurses and the sense of satisfaction with career. Material and methods: The study covered 100 nurses working for the Health Care Unit in Dąbrowa Tarnowska. The method of a diagnostic poll was used in the research. A survey questionnaire regarding career and the standardised Maslach Burnout Inventory were the research tools used. The calculations were made with the use of the IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software. The adopted statistical significance was p < 0.05. Results: As many as 48% of the nurses felt job satisfaction. Among 41% of the nurses a high level of a burnout related with emotional exhaustion was determined, and 63% of the nurses felt a low level of burnout related to depersonalisation. Lack of the feeling of personal achievements was the cause of the high level of burnout in 62% of the surveyed. The average result of burnout scale was 50.34 points, indicating that 38% of the nurses were threatened with burnout. The age of the studied nurses, place of work (ward), and feeling the need for further education do not influence the frequency of occupational burnout occurrence. Conclusions: Good relationships within a therapeutic team and support from the ward head nurse are strongly linked with the feeling of less occupational burnout.","PeriodicalId":44061,"journal":{"name":"Medical Studies-Studia Medyczne","volume":"3 1","pages":"189-195"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80173079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is insufficient data on the safety and effectiveness of pharmacological treatment in the group of pregnant women. Cardiac arrhythmia induced by pregnancy rarely requires introduction of pharmaceuticals. It should be noted that most antiarrhythmic agents are not recommended for use during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period. In cases where a drug use is necessary, the most popular choice is β-blockers or a calcium channel blocker – verapamil, which does not have teratogenic effects, but does get transferred to the mothers’ milk. The presented case study concerns a woman with no structural heart defects in her third pregnancy, with very illtolerated ventricular arrhythmia.","PeriodicalId":44061,"journal":{"name":"Medical Studies-Studia Medyczne","volume":"26 1","pages":"133-136"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82040239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the fact that nalbuphine has been used in the clinical setting for more than 40 years, there is still a lot of controversy regarding its mechanism of action and side-effects, including the development of the addiction to the drug. Recent data demonstrated the increase of non-medical use of nalbuphine. Moreover, in some countries it was placed in list of psychotropic and addictive substances. The increasing popularity of nalbuphine led us to review and analyse the data regarding both clinical and non-clinical applications of the drug. Furthermore, we performed an extensive analysis regarding available experimental models and approaches used in the research of opioid substances. Despite a set of problems in clinical settings due to the opioid nature of nalbuphine, it belongs to an indispensable group of analgesics for pain control.","PeriodicalId":44061,"journal":{"name":"Medical Studies-Studia Medyczne","volume":"4 1","pages":"146-154"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86920543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
