Daily life was severely disrupted and widespread effects remain ongoing. War and other circumstances can also lead to sudden disrup-tion and increased demand on medical professionals while creating significant additional challenges. Medical students are an important part of the healthcare delivery structure, and this should be recognized by both the students and the healthcare system, including medical schools. Training should include a broad range of exposure, from contact with patients and families to laboratory work and research techniques, and more in order to provide a comprehensive view and adequate preparation. Medical education has evolved greatly over time and will continue to develop according to needs and conditions. There are numerous influences, both internal and external. The medical community faces many challenges, but provides a vital service. Several portents indicate the need to adapt in order to adequately prepare for the future.","PeriodicalId":43995,"journal":{"name":"Erciyes Medical Journal","volume":"CE-31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84572821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An 85-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus presented to the hospital with abdominal distention and pain in the left lower quadrant since the previous night. She had a history of surgery for transverse colon cancer and hospitalization for postoperative adhesive intestinal obstruction. Physical examination revealed a body temperature of 37.5°C and tenderness of the left lower quadrant of the abdomen (without rebound tenderness). Laboratory tests revealed the following: white blood cell count, 9.50×109/L (3.17–8.40×109/L); neutrophil count, 84.2%, and C-reactive protein level, 2.0 mg/L (reference <3.0 mg/L). Plain abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed that the small intestine in the lower left abdomen was surrounded by fat stranding with intraperitoneal free air; a high-density body, indicating a fish bone (Fig. 1a, b), was found penetrating the wall.","PeriodicalId":43995,"journal":{"name":"Erciyes Medical Journal","volume":"52 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79539314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Tinnitus-related distress and quality of life were assessed before and during the COVID-19 lockdown period. The primary outcome was the mean change on the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), the Mini-tinnitus Questionnaire (TQ 12-T), and the Short-form Health Survey (SF-36). Besides, all participants filled out an evaluation form, underwent audiological assessment, tinnitus mapping, and were administered mini-interviews regarding their tinnitus. Results: We recruited 44 patients with tinnitus (22 females and 22 males, mean age: 50.25 +/- 14.51 years). Comparison of changes in mean score from baseline to the lockdown period showed no differences in overall outcomes for THI and TQ 12-T. Catastrophic (p=0.002), physical pain (p=0.020), and general health (p=0.046) subscales were found to be significantly improved. Only emotional subscales (p<0.001) of THI were found to be significantly increased. Conclusion: Although the COVID-19 lockdown period for patients with tinnitus is a major source of stress, they did not show any increase in their tinnitus-related distress, except for the emotional state.","PeriodicalId":43995,"journal":{"name":"Erciyes Medical Journal","volume":"67 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87156792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several mutations and variants have emerged and been seen throughout the pandemic. They eventually spread to various continents and nations. The most effective method of preventing illnesses from the past till the present has been vaccination. As a result of the advancement of vaccinations, numerous nations have begun immunizing global target groups. From the start of COVID-19 to the present, there aren't many possibilities for therapy. Data indicate that the rapid evolution and transmission of SARS-CoV-2 variants poses a danger to the effectiveness of currently available medications. As a result, the COVID-19 pandemic brought to light a serious public health issue that had an impact on everyone in the world. Along with the pandemic's rapid speed, new targeted vaccinations and medical therapies have reduced fears to some extent. Clinical phase studies are still being conducted in various areas because it is evident that the initial antiviral medications approved for use in the treatment of COVID-19 are ineffective in severe cases. Anti-vaccination, however, is one of the most serious barriers to vaccination, which is thought to be vital in the prevention of illnesses. Lack of information, incorrect information, and misguided religious beliefs can all contribute to anti-vaccination. With the advent of SARS-CoV-2 variants, we review the literature to provide an up-to-date overview of the features and efficacy of antiviral therapy and vaccines.
