The two research questions are as follows: How has the COVID-19 pandemic crisis affected the business operations of TPL providers? What have TPL providers learnt from enacting the crisis, and how has this experience affected their strategic development?Method: We conduct an abductive study using combined data from interviews and a targeted archive search. The data are focused on the Swedish context and on a period of the COVID-19 pandemic.Results: Three distinct groups of TPL providers have different sense and action processes impacting their business operations. This research shows how an understanding of servitisation is relevant for TPL theory. Finally, we develop the strategic perspective of TPL providers by defining TPL providers as value-cocreating relationships that can help manage the complexities of logistics services.Conclusion: This research shows that TPL providers play an important role in crises, as they contribute to solving customer problems. This role appears to be strengthened during crises, but it imposes great demands on TPL providers.Contribution: Third-party logistics providers work with their customers during crises. The sensemaking view emphasises the importance of personnel, organisational commitment, capacity and expectations during crises. This is an interplay that requires adaptation to short-term changes in operational processes and adaptability in long-term operations.","PeriodicalId":43985,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Transport and Supply Chain Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75835612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has opened up opportunities for corrupt relationships between internal and external stakeholders seeking to embark on corrupt activities in universities. As corruption is a worldwide phenomenon, this study selected previously disadvantaged universities in South Africa to investigate the effectiveness of university administrators and managers. The research examines the enforcement of policies and regulations in the effort to curb corruption.Objective: The study further sought to determine the extent to which service providers and politicians are enabled to manipulate the supply chain management and procurement systems, convincing the university officials to overlook quality standards and specifications.Method: This study was suited to a multi-case study approach, and the qualitative method was used to obtain data. A sample of 20 respondents were approached from different employment categories, including departments, faculties and trade unions.Results: The major highlights of the study pointed to the following as being the dimensions of corrupt practices in universities: rules and regulations were not enforced by university officials. There were obvious corrupt relationships and agreements among corrupt individuals, without any action being taken against them; there was a clear corrupt relationship between internal and external forces, which included bribery by funders, service providers and suppliers; there was political interference from members of management and council members, driving the corruption agenda.Conclusion: To fill the gaps that enable corruption in universities, the development of an anti-corruption workforce is a necessity. This can be achieved through skills development, proper intelligence, cooperation from stakeholders, employees refusing gifts and/or bribes and consequence management for those who are driving corruption.Contribution: The findings of the study can be used to assist university stakeholders, agencies and decision-makers in understanding the nature and extent of the corruption that is prevalent in the institutions concerned. The research could have a positive influence on improving policy compliance and adding value regarding the scant literature on corruption in universities.","PeriodicalId":43985,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Transport and Supply Chain Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-11-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90602701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Gautrain has been transporting more than five million passengers annually. However, ridership decreased drastically because of COVID-19. Poor ridership has resulted in less revenue income and the halting of expansion. In prior years, the Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) measured customer satisfaction levels;however, it has not undertaken such a study since the start of COVID-19 pandemic. Objectives: The study measured service quality experienced by Gautrain users amidst the COVID-19 pandemic through the service quality (SERVQUAL) model. Unknown customer satisfaction levels with the Gautrain services during the COVID-19 pandemic posed a problem for the agency. Method: This study followed a descriptive and quantitative path. A cross-sectional survey via online platforms was used to collect the data. The study had a sample size of 84 Gautrain commuters. Results: The findings revealed that users experienced a negative service quality in terms of SERVQUAL dimensions, namely assurance, tangibles, empathy and responsiveness. Conclusion: The study concluded that COVID-19 had a negative impact on some of the Gautrain service factors;however, users were still satisfied with some of the service factors. It is recommended that the Gautrain can improve services by understanding what customers expect in terms of service factors during the pandemic. © 2022. The Authors. The current study examined information systems components (ISCs) as they were used in the adoption of EAA in SMEs, scrutinised the Theory of Planned Behavior, and systematic literature review.Objective: This paper seeks to contribute to the fundamental aspects of ISCs that influence the adoption of EAA for SCM in small and medium enterprises (SMSs) in South Africa, located in Limpopo Province of Capricorn District Municipality.Methodology: A quantitative survey presented both diagnostic tests and data analysis as that of the methodological modus operandi. Descriptive data analysis generated Pearson’s correlation and coefficient, along with analysis of variance (ANOVA) and linear regression. Data was collected through stratified random sampling of SME owners and managers.Results: The most substantial results indicate that ISCs should be integrated with transactional support systems (TSSs), management information systems (MISs), information systems governance (ISG), decision support systems (DSSs), executive support systems (ESSs), knowledge management systems (KMSs), and web application architecture (WAA) to predict EAA acceptance.Conclusion: This article described the greatest possible direction for considering ISCs when planning to integrate EAA adoption. Furthermore, the research results provide a preliminary overview and analysis of the results that support the alternative hypothesis that ISCs influence SCM adoption and implementation of EAA in SMEs.","PeriodicalId":43985,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Transport and Supply Chain Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80291066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Addressing the customer’s needs through coordinated SC networks is a competitive advantage for enterprises. The purpose of this study was to explore SCM as a competitive advantage for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), specifically grocery stores in Mahikeng, South Africa.Research objectives: The investigation sought to explore the role of supply chain collaboration in enhancing constant flow of products for business continuity and cost-saving for SMEs from third-party logistics (3PL) transport optimisation, and it was discovered that the practice of reverse logistics by SMEs recovered value and reduced waste.Research methodology: A qualitative research method with descriptive design and a nonprobability sampling strategy was followed to conduct the study. The recorded interviews were transcribed, translated, coded and analysed via thematic data analysis to determine the outcome of the study.Results: The study established that SCM improved cost-effectiveness through cost-saving on shared (3PL) transportation between SMEs and improved efficiency through enhanced supplier–customer relationships by maintaining continuous flow of products and services. The optimisation of transportation, continuous flow of products and services and recovery of value through reverse logistics reduced waste and increased efficiency, which enhanced competitiveness and sustainability of the retailers.Conclusion: It is apparent that enterprises that streamlined operations through SCM also reduced waste, thereby enhancing competitiveness and sustainability. The findings indicated that owners and managers will understand the benefits of adopting SCM strategies.","PeriodicalId":43985,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Transport and Supply Chain Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84123669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
