Motor deficits are common in stroke patients, but their complete recovery is seen only in a minority of cases. Assessment of motor deficits uses clinical methods, especially standardized scales, but also electrophysiological and imagistic methods. The motor recovery is a continuous process, maximal in the first month after stroke, decreasing gradually over the first 6 months. Most powerful predictors for motor recovery are clinical parameters: severity of motor deficit, onset of first voluntary movements after stroke in the first 48-72 hours, a continuous improvement in motor function during the first 8 weeks, a good postural control during the first month, young age, male sex, left hemispheric stroke and absence of other neurological impairments are strong positive predictors. Presence of motor-evoked potentials in paretic muscles and imagistic parameters as location, stroke volume and motor pathways integrity are paraclinical predictors for recovery. There are no specific biomarker which is efficient in predicting recovery. In patients with poor chances for recovery according to actual predictors, the development of more precise algorithms to assess functional outcome is needed, in order to support the choice of appropriate methods and intensity of rehabilitation treatment.\u0000Key words: ischemic stroke rehabilitation, functional assessment, motor improvement, recovery predictors, prognostic factors,

Low levels of magnesium have been associated with a number of chronic diseases. This work is devoted to the study of the effect of the use of the balneological means "Magnesium oil" for the correction of the manifestations of experimentally induced magnesium deficiency. The experiment was conducted on 50 white female rats of the Wistar auto-breeding line which were divided into 3 equal groups: (1) control, (2) model of magnesium deficiency, (3) received "Magnesium oil". As a result of modeling the state of magnesium deficiency, significant changes are observed in the central nervous system, vegetative nervous system, and kidneys of animals. With pathological changes in the lymphoid tissue of the pharynx, surgical removal of the tonsils, as a result of increased antigenic load, a compensatory increase in LT is observed – «lingual tonsillar hypertrophy». This is observed against the background of age-related involutive changes, when the remaining elements of the lymphopharyngeal ring begin to perform anti-antigenic and adaptive activity. The processes taking place in, the structure of the LT, which is familiar to the body, changes - the receptor apparatus creates pathological impulses from the organ. The severity of clinical manifestations correlates with the degree of increase in LT. The emphasis on these manifestations, psychosomatic conditions, create a complex of pathological sensations that violate the quality of patients’ life. The goal and objectives of the study are aimed at improving the quality of patients’ life with lingual tonsil hypertrophy (LTH), by developing effective methods of diagnosis and treatment, assessing the role of the immunoregulatory shift in the pathogenesis of LTH of the possibility of their correction by the action of a physical factor (cold destruction). Materials and methods: When examining 850 people who underwent complex research and instrumental diagnostics in connection with the pathology of ENT organs, 119 people (the main group) were diagnosed with different degrees of LTH, with control of 30 healthy people. Cryosurgical treatment was offered to 76 patients who used the method for treating of lingual tonsil hypertrophy by cryodestruction using a hook-shaped applicator with a heat-insulating nozzle on the back surface, an individual polyethylene cap, and a cryoapparatus.\u0000Results and discussions: With LTH, an increase in the volume and mass of tissues forming the morphological basis of the tonsil was detected: the main substance was an increase in the number and size of layers of coarse fibrous fibers, fields of fat cells, and the growth of mucous glands. The mucous membrane, thinning, undergoes dystrophic-degenerative changes. The rate of proliferation correlates with the severity of inflammation, the causes of which are multifactorial, individual. There is an increased sensitivity reaction to microbial and household allergens, an increase in the content of antibodies in the blood to LT tissues, a change in microbiocinosis of the pharyngeal mucosa, and vegetation of non-resident microflora. As a result of cryosurgical treatment in 56 (73.68%) cases, a decrease in the volume of LT tissue was observed. The deep layers, partially absorbed, were replaced by healthy tissues, the surface layers were rejected with the formation of an atrophic scar or regenerate, the structure of which was close to organotypic. The cause of pathological impulse was eliminated, clinical indicators were normalized, the quality of life of patients was impro

Balneology has a long European and Asian tradition and Romania can be the cornerstone of international bridges in this area due to its geographical position, legendary tradition and extraordinary natural resources of all kind. The use of thermal and mineral springs on the territory of the country for health and treatment purposes is a tradition with a history of more than two thousand years. Unique spa resources, such as thermal and mineral springs, mud, mofettes, saline microclimate and bioclimate (sedative or relaxing, exciting of marine seaside or plains, stimulant or tonic), are used successfully in the sphere of health care services, preventive medical actions, rehabilitation and wellness. Legend of Hercule bathing in Cerna's waters is a proof of the use of thermal waters long before the Roman conquest. This tradition exists in almost all civilizations. Today it maintains its usefulness and is spread across all continents, mainly in the Middle East and South and East Europe, Asia (Middle East, Japan, China, Turkey), South America (Argentina, Mexico, Colombia) and North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia) (244-249). \u0000Material and method. Isoproterenol (ISO) is a synthetic catecholamine, a beta-adrenergic agonist that produces extensive biochemical, functional, and histological alterations in the heart, characteristic for AMI. The present study has been designed to identify the best dose of ISO that induces electrocardiogram (ECG) alterations, enzymatic reaction, and histopathological changes characteristic of AMI. Material and method: AMI was induced to Wistar-Bratislava white male rats, using three different subcutaneous doses of ISO (85 mg/kg bw, 100 mg/kg bw, and 150 mg/kg bw). ISO was administrated twice, with the second dose at 24h after the initial one. The ECGs were recorded at 24 hours after the last dose of ISO. Blood samples were collected for measurement of creatine kinase (CK), and CK-MB serum levels, and the hearts were excised and prepared for histopathologic examination. Results and discussions: All doses of ISO induced alterations in the ECG patterns such as increased heart rate and prolongation of QT and QTc intervals. Depression of the ST segment coupled with marked T wave inversion were observed at the doses of 100 mg/kg bw and 150 mg/kg bw of ISO. All doses of ISO induced an elevation of CK and CK-MB with highest levels observed for the dose of 150 mg/kg bw. Histopathologic examination revealed subendocardial AMI lesions for all doses tested. Conclusions: ISO in doses of 100 mg/kg and 150 mg/kg is useful for induction of infarct-like lesion on ECG, increased levels of myocardial necrosis enzymes and morphological changes characteristic for AMI.

Variants in the human genome are considered important causes of differences in drug responses observed in clinical practice. In terms of bone mineral density, about 26–53% of patients do not respond to amino-bisphosphonate therapies, of which alendronate is the most widely used. \u0000Material and method: The current study is prospective, observational, analytical, longitudinal and cohort type. It included 25 postmenopausal women treated with alendronate for 1 year. Bone mineral density at lumbar spine and proximal femur was measured and bone turnover markers (C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen and procollagen 1N-terminal propeptide) were evaluated at 0 and 12 months of treatment. Six single nucleotide polymorphisms in osteoporosis-candidate genes were genotyped (FDPS rs2297480, LRP5 rs3736228, SOST rs1234612, VKORC1 rs9934438, GGPS1 rs10925503 and RANKL rs2277439). Treatment response was evaluated by percentage changes in bone mineral density and bone turnover markers.\u0000 Results: The heterozygous CT of FDPS rs2297480 showed lower increases in BMD values in the lumbar spine region and the homozygous CC of the GGPS1 rs10925503 showed lower increases in terms of BMD at the total hip region. No association was found for LRP5 rs3736228, SOST rs1234612, VKORC1 rs9934438 and RANKL rs2277439.\u0000Conclusions: Romanian postmenopausal women with osteoporosis carrying the CT genotype of FDPS rs2297480 or the CC genotype of GGPS1 rs10925503 could have an unsatisfactory response to alendronate treatment.\u0000Key words: osteoporosis; genetic polymorphism; alendronate; bone mineral density; bone turnover markers,

The two compartments, disco-temporal and condilo-discal, which make up the temporo-mandibular joint, fulfill the functions of the stomatognathic system, namely: phonation, mastication and swallowing. The temporo-mandibular degenerative pathology is one of the 5 clinical entities given by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain in 1993. The symptoms are varied, dominated by pain, impaired joint mobility, cracks, sensation of muscle fatigue in the masseter and temporal muscles. Most cases benefit from conservative treatment, consisting of anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory medication, specific orthodontic treatment, electrotherapy (TENS, ultrasound, magnetodiaflux, laser), kinesiotherapy. 2-5% of patients require surgery. Material and method. We performed a retrospective study, over a 9-year period (January 2010-March 2019), in which we included 503 patients who went to the Timisoara Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, with a definite diagnosis of temporomandibular algodisfunctional syndrome, of different etiologies, between the ages of 6 and 85 years. We evaluated the etiology of temporomandibular algodisfunctional syndrome, the prevalence of clinical manifestations in temporomandibular osteoarthritis and their evolution after 10 days of conservative treatment. Results and discussions. Pain is present in 100% of cases, the values obtained in these patients with temporomandibular osteoarthritis are between 10 and 40mm. Cracks are present in women in the percentage of 40.8% and 37.9% in men; mobility limitation is found in women in 11% of cases, and in men in 15% of cases. Conclusions. The existence of a protocol for the diagnosis of TM osteoarthritis is essential to establish the treatment plan and prognosis of the disease. The pain from osteoarthritis TM is low intensity, present in all patients; cracks and limiting mobility are present in comparable proportions, regardless of gender. The response to treatment was optimal at 21 days of treatment.
