However, negative experiences with breastfeeding the first baby significantly impact the success of EBF, particularly with first-time mothers who report having had challenges failing to practice EBF with subsequent babies. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the lived experiences of first-time mothers with EBF in Kafue, Zambia. Material and methods: A qualitative, interpretive phenomenological study, with a non-probability, purposive sample size of 25 first-time mothers within the first six months postpartum was conducted. Face-to-face interviews with a core question followed with prompts to ascertain respondents’ interpretations to the core question were carried out. Transcript content analysis of the data was then done with text information assigned descriptive codes and categorised according to emerging themes using thematic analysis as described by Maguire & Delahunt.1 Results: Three major themes emerged; “Challenges initiating and continuing breastfeeding”, “Psychological aspects of EBF practice in relation to coping” and “Inadequate support networks/mechanisms”. First-time mothers experienced diverse challenges with EBF and information received from healthcare providers did not prepare or help them adequately. Practical support was received from nurses and midwives, however only in the first six weeks postpartum. In some instances, support was either not given or it was not supportive of EBF. Conclusion: Given their inexperience, first-time mothers experience EBF challenges that are difficult to deal with leading to very negative effects on their perceptions of EBF thus negatively affecting EBF practices. Without adequate and appropriate practical support in the perinatal period, they are most likely not to EBF successfully. Teaching on danger signs of breastfeeding complications and incorporating breastfeeding clinics in the Maternal and Child Health Departments could be utilised as strategies to help them sustain successful EBF practices.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129182561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, it is necessary to understand what are the main factors that influence this phenomenon. This article is a reflective opinion on the construction of our ideals in relation to gender from an individual and social point of view. A brief historical overview is presented on the influence of Western society and religion on everyday customs which have affected and continue to affect personal identity (psychosocial effect). The opinion is related to published international studies whose common element is the social influence on gender identity and the production of current social capitalism.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131502248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first signs of this condition usually appear during the first five years of life. Although some people with ASD are able to live independently, others already need a series of care, support and psychosocial interventions throughout their lives. Objective: To survey the performance of nurses in the face of different procedures in autistic children in health units. Identify the main causes of crises and difficulties in nursing care for autistic children. Raise nursing intervention solutions and strategies to avoid crises in autistic children. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review carried out by crossing the descriptors: Autistic Spectrum Disorder; Pediatrics; Nursing. The databases were: LILACS, BIREME, Web of Science and the SciELO electronic library, with the search for articles carried out between August and November 2021. The search resulted in 28 articles, of which 12 were excluded, making a final total of 16 articles. Results and discussion: Among the main characteristics of the nurse's performance, the exact description of the procedure to be performed on the patient stands out, as well as the complete explanation of all the steps of the procedure, aiming to avoid crises due to the child's surprise during the procedure. of the procedure. Among the main crises in autistic children, the following were raised as the main causes: pain, noise, surprise and the melt-down, the name given to a multisensory crisis, caused by several stimuli directed at these children at the same time. As the main solution to avoid crises, the use of Social Stories was found, which are animated conventions in book or video format, whose objective is to explain in detail to the child what sensations he will have during the performance of a certain procedure and the step by step of the process. itself, avoiding surprises during its realization. Conclusion: Through this review, it was possible to conclude that Social Stories are the main key to carrying out nursing procedures in autistic children, reducing crises and facilitating nursing care, in addition to avoiding future problems, such as refusal of assistance or the so-called “White Coat Syndrome”, whose cause is linked to trauma in childhood. The importance of training and expertise of nurses in this area is highlighted, as diagnoses of autism increase day by day.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"63 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120842356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
