In this paper, we present and discuss the security support provided in order to deal with threats in the phases of closed session opening and suspended session reopening. The performance of these phases were assessed through experiments in a real wireless network and compared with handshake approaches of the most common upper layer protocols, such as TCP, SSL, and SSH. The operation latency results show a good cost-effectiveness of the secure session support, which is an important requirement for handling IP mobility in Vehicular Communication Networks (VCN). Using the developed protocol, the detection of link disruption and the trusted re-establishment of an ongoing connection can be achieved with little overhead.","PeriodicalId":435485,"journal":{"name":"2012 Second Brazilian Conference on Critical Embedded Systems","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128498282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This type of system is increasingly present today and the processing demand is such that complex multicore processors are needed. The development of multiprocessors is ahead of the analysis techniques of such systems and it is therefore necessary to promote reliability and to reduce over-specified systems. Depending on the processor architecture, the values obtained by computing WCET (Worst Case Execution Time) are incompatible with the scheduling model that creates a fundamental contradiction between the assumptions of WCET calculation and scheduling algorithms. This work proposes the use of a heterogeneous approach where part of the multiprocessor cores operate under preemptive and part under a non-preemptive scheduling. The analysis shows that there are advantages in using the heterogeneous approach.","PeriodicalId":435485,"journal":{"name":"2012 Second Brazilian Conference on Critical Embedded Systems","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130185242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a decentralized implementation, that is, each vehicle is capable of deciding what is the best destination for itself, and also communicate with other vehicles to see if it's objective is the best one globally. To ensure a good response time from the vehicles, without the need of a powerful and expensive hardware, every vehicle uses a table with the output defuzzified values previously calculated for the inference process, instead of a complete fuzzy engine.","PeriodicalId":435485,"journal":{"name":"2012 Second Brazilian Conference on Critical Embedded Systems","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122645782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is composed by two parts. The first part is a reactive navigation system in which a mobile robot moves avoiding obstacles in environment, using the distance sensor Kinect. The second part of this system uses a artificial neural network (ANN) to recognize different configurations of the environment, for example, path ahead, left path, right path and intersections. The ANN is trained using data captured by the Kinect sensor in indoor environments. This way, the robot becomes able to perform a topological navigation combining internal reactive behavior to avoid obstacles and the ANN to locate the robot in the environment, in a deliberative behavior. The topological map is represented by a graph which represents the configuration of the environment, where the hallways (path ahead) are the edges and locations (left path and intersection, for example) are the vertices. The system also works in the dark, which is a great advantage for surveillance systems. The experiments were performed with a Pioneer P3-AT robot equipped with a Kinect sensor in order to validate and evaluate this approach. The proposed method demonstrated to be a promising approach to autonomous mobile robots navigation.","PeriodicalId":435485,"journal":{"name":"2012 Second Brazilian Conference on Critical Embedded Systems","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114634168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the filtering problem of tomographic projections of the soil following a nonlinear model during the measurement, the use of unscented Kalman filter with neural networks was useful to ensure an improvement in signal/noise ratio. Embedded systems may have limited accuracy in numerical calculations due to processing time recursive mathematical functions. More accurate values require more iteration to determine new members of the series causing bottlenecks. The study was accomplished with the aid of a tool for runtime performance measurement developed in the scope of the INCT-SEC GT4 activities, which collects information of the interaction between the application, operating system and hardware during the process execution. Experiments carried out with the embedded control software of another running project of INCT-SEC, a tactical indoors robot, reveal potential significant improvements in efficiency and responsiveness which can be exploited by merely replacing the kernel, without any modification on the application itself. It is also offered an insight on how the characteristic of the application in terms of CPU and I/O usage patterns can influence the system performance, and how such knowledge can be used in the project of embedded application such as to optimize the dependability and efficiency of critical applications.","PeriodicalId":435485,"journal":{"name":"2012 Second Brazilian Conference on Critical Embedded Systems","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134023763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
