Within the same system, a comparative study is performed by using different frequencies with different power levels for each frequency. In an anechoic chamber, measurements were taken at 2.4, 5.8, 10 and 16 GHz. This work proves the ability to accurately detect heart activity and extract heartbeat rates, using low power such as -30 dBm from the radiating structure.","PeriodicalId":435116,"journal":{"name":"2008 First International Symposium on Applied Sciences on Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121758871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mobile phone is modeled as a half-wavelength dipole antenna. The effect of the wall on the peak 10-g SAR and input characteristics of the antenna for two wall orientations are measured. The antenna is set to transmit maximum output power of 250 mW at 900 MHz. A slowly decaying sinusoidal form of the peak 10-g SAR curves, which has been predicted by numerical simulation from several authors including ourselves, is confirmed experimentally for the first time. Under the valid antenna-wall distances used in this work, maximum peak 10-g SAR increase of 7% over the free space value was recorded at the distance of 394 mm away from the wall. Simulated results obtained by the FDTD technique are also presented. Good agreement between the measured and simulated results is obtained.","PeriodicalId":435116,"journal":{"name":"2008 First International Symposium on Applied Sciences on Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122779924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In other words, a set of requirements for quality of services (QoS) must be satisfied. In this paper, RL-QRP, a reinforcement learning based routing protocol with QoS-support is proposed for biomedical sensor networks. In RL-QRP, optimal routing policies can be found through experiences and rewards without the need of maintaining precise network state information. Simulation results show that RL-QRP performs well in terms of a number of QoS metrics and energy efficiency in various medical scenarios. By investigating the impacts of network traffic load and sensor node mobility on the network performance, RL-QRP has been proved to fit well in dynamic environments.","PeriodicalId":435116,"journal":{"name":"2008 First International Symposium on Applied Sciences on Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128089058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These patients are not able to manipulate objects or communicate their needs, even though their mental capabilities are intact. Electroencephalographic (EEG) signals recorded from the scalp can be used to decode wishes and intentions. BCI approaches are based on a variety of strategies to generate control signals. For example, the control signals may be the result of visual or auditive stimulation or of imaginary motor tasks. The control signals are analyzed by a translation algorithm which associates a signal to a command. Thus, BCI provides a communication channel not based on nerves and muscles. This paper describes the BCI systems developed at the Center for Sensory-Motor Interaction of Aalborg University, with special emphasis on strategies based on non-motor imagery tasks.","PeriodicalId":435116,"journal":{"name":"2008 First International Symposium on Applied Sciences on Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"239 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132324586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data set was provided by Physionet including holter recordings of 50 patients (20 training and 30 test sets). Concerning that most relevant information about the AF exists in the atrial fibrillatory wave, Several spectral and time-frequency parameters were extracted from the ECG signal after canceling the QRST complex. Also a temporal feature, RR interval variation, representing the ventricular activity was calculated. These parameters were evaluated using a scattering criterion with the purpose of selecting best features. The performance of our method was assessed using a Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) technique to classify the N and T groups. The result revealed accuracy of 100% for both training and test sets which shows a significant improvement in comparison with previous studies.","PeriodicalId":435116,"journal":{"name":"2008 First International Symposium on Applied Sciences on Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128389960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
