Our study is a cross-sectional study measuring the frequency of the muscle in our sample size in Islamabad. Our aim is to determine the frequency of the palmaris longus muscle in the population of Islamabad, Pakistan. Absence of the palmaris longus does not result in any functional disability. Our objective is to improve our knowledge and spread awareness of the variability of the palmaris longus muscle and its use as a graft tissue at other sites of injury. \u0000Methodology: The presence of the palmaris longus was determined using 4 tests involving various hand movements. Observation of the tendon of the palmaris longus at the wrist confirmed its presence. A sample of 389 participants from the residents of Islamabad was picked randomly. This study was conducted in 2019 at Shifa College of Medicine (Shifa Tameer e Millat University). \u0000Results: Absence of palmaris longus in males and females was 4.7% and 6% respectively. Bilateral absence was seen only in 1% of the study population. Unilateral absence in the right and left hands were seen to be 1.3% and 3.3% respectively. In ambidextrous persons, palmaris longus was present in both hands. In right and left-handed persons, 4.80% and 19.2% of the study population exhibited palmaris longus absence, correspondingly. \u0000Conclusion: Overall, the palmaris longus was absent in 5.7% of the entire sample. Further studies can be conducted to establish a relationship between the presence of the palmaris longus muscle and different determinants such as ethnicity and hand dominance etc

It not only harmed the economy but also led to the total shut down of all educational activities resulting in a significant gap in learning and understanding among students worldwide. Institutions, teachers, educators and students all had to quickly respond to an unexpected and ‘forced’ transition from face-to-face to remote teaching. The educational institutions also had to create learning environments for students and teachers in the light of the conditions in which both universities and schools had to operate. Although it leads to a number of challenges, but also provided opportunities that can best be described as blessing in disguise.

Reflecting on what makes a good journal great reminds of the sayings of Dr Bartosz Hudzik, a young cardiologist at a medical university in Poland. First and foremost, there is the team of dedicated and highly qualified editors who provide valuable guidance on the journal contents. In addition, there are manuscript authors, equally important as the editors, as they are the ones conducting research, writing and rewriting drafts, and submitting the manuscript in hopes that it will be published. Then, there are the reviewers, who advise the editors on the importance and novelty of the findings and the soundness of the research methodology. Finally, there are the readers, who look to the journal for accurate and up-to-date scientific and clinical information. We have this exact recipe right at the start of our journal in the form of a very active and energetic editorial board and a competent pool of reviewers. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000

The data was collected by an online cross-sectional survey conducted among students from 9 medical colleges across all provinces of Pakistan. The sample included 627 respondents. The survey was divided into two parts, the web-based information that a medical student acquires by self-motivation and information derived from social media that needs critical evaluation and further research to determine its authenticity. The second part included evaluation of knowledge about the pandemic in general with a focus on COVID-19 and its application. \u0000Results: There were a total of 627 respondents from medical colleges across Pakistan. The majority 98.1% (n=615) were aware of pandemic and 87% (n=546) were actively following the emerging evidence of COVID-19. An important feature was that 82.8% (n=519) of the medical students were willing to check for the authenticity of information. More than two third of medical students had adequate knowledge regarding importance of testing, vulnerable population and protective measures required to prevent spread of COVID-19. Respondents responded to observing the preventive measures with 91% observing social distancing, 86% maintaining personal hygiene and 72% wearing masks. \u0000Conclusions: Most of the medical students in Pakistan keep themselves abreast with developments in the pandemic. Among various oral diseases, periodontitis affects a large number of populations around the developed and underdeveloped countries of the world. The first step to manage this disease at the community level is to know its prevalence and trend. Therefore, this systematic review was planned to document the prevalence of periodontitis at the national and regional level. \u0000Methods Literature was searched using various databases, such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Pak Medi net and Eric. Keywords used were “Prevalence”, “Periodontitis”, “Pakistan” “Prevalence of periodontitis in Pakistan”, “prevalence and/or periodontitis and/or Pakistan”. The research methodology was based on the PRISMA guidelines (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) to extract and later analyze relevant studies. Quality assessment of all the included studies was performed using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal checklist. \u0000Results Thirty studies that fulfilled the inclusion criteria and reported the prevalence of periodontitis in the Pakistani population were included. A total of 17,757 subjects were included in the systematic review from 30 studies. The prevalence estimate of periodontitis (keeping 95%CI) was 37% from Punjab, 40% from Sindh, 20% from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 3% from Baluchistan. \u0000Conclusion Based on our collection of data prevalence of periodontitis in Pakistan was found to be high. Therefore, it can be concluded that in Pakistan periodontitis is a serious dental issue that must be sorted out to improve the oral health related quality of life in this demographic part. This paper will serve as a baseline for planning future health policies to address this disease in the country.

Out of 1256 neonates, including 586 preterm, only those 105 preterm neonates were included in the study who had expired within one month of their stay, were less than 33 weeks of age and had less than 2500 grams birth weight. Their data was analyzed for age and weight at the time of admission, sex, duration of stay and cause of admission. The record of their clinical and radiological investigations was retrieved to know the causes of mortality. \u0000Results \u0000More than half of the deaths amongst 105 preterm neonates were unavoidable and occurred within first 48 hours of hospitalization due to their critical condition at the time of admission. Out of the total deaths, 46 (43.80%) were due to sepsis, 24 (22.85%) were due to birth asphyxia, 24 (22.85%) were due to respiratory distress, 8 (7.61%) were due to neonatal jaundice and 3 (2.85%) deaths had no definite cause. \u0000Conclusion: Neonatal infections are the leading cause of death, followed by birth asphyxia and respiratory distress in the government hospitals of Pakistan.
