With the increase in demand for fish in recent years, the expansion of productive areas of fish farms has been observed, resulting in greater territorial occupation, most of the time, in a disorganized way. The present work aimed to map the fish areas in the municipality of Santa Inês, Maranhão State. To identify the areas occupied by fish farms, the Photointerpretation Method and its recognition elements were used through the following software: Spring, QGis, Google Earth Pro and Arcview. To validate the information, on-site visits were carried out in fish farms according to the points identified using the software. According to the data obtained, the municipality of Santa Inês - MA showed an evolution in the territorial occupation of fish areas, from 22.99 hectares in 2003 to 46.84 hectares in 2011, 126.95 hectares in 2015 and 141 .86 hectares in 2017, with greater expansion in territorial occupation in the period from 2011 to 2015 (171%), with 81.25% of the mapped areas concentrated within a radius of 3 km from the municipal headquarters. Fish farms in the municipality of Santa Inês corresponded to only 0.24% of the total area of the municipality. The preparation and analysis of thematic maps of the territorial occupation of fish farming can help in the management of the areas found and i","PeriodicalId":433861,"journal":{"name":"ACTA OF FISHERIES AND AQUATIC RESOURCES","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117209561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The specimen of P. volitans was accidentally caught in June 2023, by artisanal multispecies fishery with gillnets in coastal waters in the region of Orange Cape, Oiapoque (State of Amapá) (04°43'00\"N, 051°25'00\"W), bordering French Guiana. The adult individual (~36 cm) was collected at a depth of 36.5 m, in a sandy-clay substrate in the continental shelf. The record of the species in the most extreme point of Brazil indicates a strong bioinvasion process of P. volitans in tropical waters; so, this work alerts the risk of the spread of the species to other countries of South America with its possible invasion in French Guiana waters.","PeriodicalId":433861,"journal":{"name":"ACTA OF FISHERIES AND AQUATIC RESOURCES","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123677675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
