For semantic AAW detection, a luminance map is used to create an initial attention window, which is then reduced close to the size of the real ROI (region of interest) using a quad-tree. The purpose of the AAW is to facilitate background removal and reduce the ROI segmentation processing time. Region segmentation is performed within the AAW, followed by region clustering and removal to produce segmentation of only ROIs. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can efficiently segment one or more ROIs and produce similar segmentation results to human perception.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134639090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such cross-sections of geometrical objects differ by layers and generally have more than one continuous contour in each layer. In an attempt to facilitate an efficient approach for path planning, the problem is simplified by approximating each of the continuous contours with its minimum circumscribed circle. The tool path planning for traversing all the contours in the same cross-section can then be simplified as the path planning of circles. With combing the algorithm of traveling salesman problem (TSP) and the shortest traversal path function of three circles, an odd-even circle adjusting algorithm is proposed in this paper for deriving the shortest traversal path of n circles. When the traversing order of the n circles is obtained by the preprocessing TSP algorithm, the shortest traversal path of n circles can be derived in linear time. It is superior to that of the random selection method. Experiments are carried out for arbitrary n circles to demonstrate the computational advantage of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"340 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114058268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This information is represented and processed digitally. Digital image processing is ubiquitous, with applications ranging from television to tomography, from photography to printing, from robotics to remote sensing. In this study, we developed an algorithm to convert multispectral image pixel values acquired by an Internet Video Surveillance camera into quantitative values of concentrations of particulate matter with diameter less than 10 micrometers (PM10). This algorithm was based on the regression analysis of relationship between the measured reflectance components from a surface material and the atmosphere. The newly developed algorithm can be applied to compute the PM10 values. These computed PM10 values were compared to other standard values measured by a DustTrakTM meter. The correlation results showed that this newly develop algorithm produced a high degree of accuracy as indicated by high correlation coefficient (R2) of 7566 and low root-mean-square-error (RMS) values of plusmn3.8306 mug/m3. A program was written by using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 to download still images automatically from the camera via the internet and utilized the newly developed algorithm to determine PM10 concentration automatically and continuously. This study indicates that the technique of using Internet Video Surveillance camera images can be a useful tool for monitoring temporal development of air quality.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121781272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The core of this approach is based on the construction of a local neighborhood structure and its recursive subdivision. 3D points will be organized into groups according to their spatial proximity, but also to their similarity in the attribute space. Our method is robust to noise, missing data, and local anomalies thanks to the organization of the points into a minimal spanning tree in attribute space. We assume that the 3D image is composed of regions homogeneous according to some criterion (color, curvature, etc.), but no assumption about noise, nor spatial repartition/shape of the regions or points is made. Thus, this approach can be applied to a wide variety of segmentation problems, unlike most existing specialized methods. We demonstrate the performance of our algorithm with experimental results on real range images.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121894110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pose determination is a pre-requisite step for establishing face orientation of which will be used in determining the shape and structure of the face. Existing rotation-based pose determination that describes head movement using a single pivot point cannot describe rotation that involves changes in pivot point. In addressing the issue, this paper suggests a pose determination technique via usage of two pivot points. The paper will propose a definition for dual-pivot pose determination, suggest approaches to calculate head movement along these pivots, show a brief application for the dual-pivot and give comment on advantages and disadvantages of dual- pivot points.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126039878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 4D function interval exclusion test is used to speed up the rendering of 4D Implicit surfaces in this hyper-volume. A 4D orthonormal basis function is used to define a 4D camera, which projects isometric or perspective views onto a plane in 4D for viewing. The technique requires evaluations of 4D implicit surface functions and gradients to render shaded images. The technique also allows for hidden surface elimination using a z-buffer modified for use in a 4D space. We give examples of its use in rendering some 4D surfaces and discuss problems with the technique. The algorithm can be generalised to higher dimensions.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115399559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique has various phases including extracting outlines of images, detecting corner points from the detected outline, addition of extra knot points if needed. The last phase makes a significant contribution by making the technique automated. It uses the idea of stochastic evolution to optimize the shape parameters in the description of the generalized cubic spline. It ultimately produces optimal results for the approximate vectorization of the digital contour obtained from the planar images.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115673312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the recent years there has been use of neural network for speech recognition. In this paper backpropagation neural network has been used for isolated spoken Urdu digits recognition. Mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) has been used to represent speech signal. Dimensions of speech features were reduced to a vector of 39 values. Only 39 values from MFCC features speech are fed to the neural network having more than one hidden layers with varying number of neurons, for training and recognition An analysis has been made between different number of hidden layers and different number of neurons on hidden layers. It has been found that results for these 39 values are similar to that obtained using complete MFCC features that range from 804 to 67x39. With the use of 39 values on input layer, computational complexity and time for training and recognition of neural network is reduced. In order to evaluate the significance of the proposed method on data other than Urdu digits, 30 English words have been trained and recognized that gave 98% results. All the implementation has been done inMATLAB.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130235352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For storage and transmission of images, high efficiency image compression methods are under wide attention. In this paper we propose a neuro- wavelet based model for image compression which combines the advantage of wavelet transform and neural network. Images are decomposed using wavelet filters into a set of sub bands with different resolution corresponding to different frequency bands. Different quantization and coding schemes are used for different sub bands based on their statistical properties. The coefficients in low frequency band are compressed by differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) and the coefficients in higher frequency bands are compressed using neural network. Using this scheme we can achieve satisfactory reconstructed images with large compression ratios.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123956557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a phantom device is very expensive and it is difficult for the end user to buy and use it. Also, many users are familiar with the use of a mouse device rather than that of a phantom device. So, the authors extended their cloth design system to support a standard mouse device besides a phantom device. They also evaluated the usefulness of their cloth design system by asking some subjects to try to practically perform several operations using a Phantom device and a mouse device. Then it is found that even using a mouse device, their cloth design system is practically useful. This paper shows evaluation results and discusses about them, and clarifies the usefulness of the cloth design system that only supports a mouse device.","PeriodicalId":433577,"journal":{"name":"Computer Graphics, Imaging and Visualisation (CGIV 2007)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133706700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
