When it comes to employees who averagely start working from the age of 21 until the age of retirement, 60; more or less. Almost 8 to 9 hours per day is the average of working hours. According to Bahrain’s labour market regulatory authority, that makes it 40 to 45 hours per week (5 days of work). Thus, it exerts a significant impact upon the lives of a great number of people. Today the power that we must unleash is the power of innovation. Human beings, their ideas, inventions, dreams, and connections, are the capital of the future. Because where great minds go today, great things will happen tomorrow. “Micro smart district” is the point of the research that aims to introduce design guidelines for the smart workplace in headquarters’ buildings and create intimates and intelligent ways in a comfortable environment.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"183 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116422018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The word ‘value’ in the real estate market can change quite easily, likewise with land values. Land value has many determinants, with one of the most influencing factors is location. A city is a place for humans to do activities that are always changing and developing. Any changes that occur in the urban structure will definitively affect all the elements in it, including environmental and surrounding conditions. The development of a city is strongly influenced by urban economic activities in which they have the power to change the urban structure spatially, one of which is the development of urban clusters. This study will discuss/examine the previous literature in-depth on how a land value can vary, what factors and proxies are known to affect land value, and look for their relationship to changes/developments in urban conditions.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132873480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Biophilic urbanism, an emerging concept of urban planning that aspires for regenerative sustainability. Urban agriculture, among the several features of biophilic cities, can generate direct short-term economic gains. This study on a city of a developing economy aims to inquire about the scope of urban agriculture at the neighbourhood level. The research applied semi-structured interviews of the residents, visual observation, mapping, review of relevant policy documents and key informant interviews. The results indicate that existing community-led practices are offering vegetables and shades. There are spaces to incorporate urban agriculture as well. Given that the government and non-governmental organizations support this concept, it is remarkable that residents are willing to embrace urban agriculture in a more organized manner. Supportive regulatory frameworks reflect political will toward biophilic urbanism, but institutional support is still required for effective implementation. The findings of this study suggest that biophilic urbanism could be implemented in the urban areas of developing economies.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126965163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The smart buildings, that is a product of multidisciplinary study, aim at maximum functionality, savings and benefit. However, in the concept of “Smart Building”, the technical characteristics of the materials used in the building and even the flexible space organization that can change functions with mobile systems should also come to mind. When the design is viewed in terms of functional flexibility, flexible spaces that can serve different purposes simultaneously in the organization of the space will be discussed. With the online life that started after the pandemic, the design expectations are towards the inclusion of office functionality in standard residences.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128876154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surface temperature data were obtained by remote sensing methods using Landsat 8 satellite images. In the study where the GIS techniques were used, the relationships between the cool islands and their surrounding urban texture were analyzed by statistical methods. The results indicate that while the density of adult trees in urban green spaces increases the cooling capacities and cooling distances of green spaces, the morphological characteristics of the peripheries of green spaces change their cooling distances. It is thought that these findings are constituted an important basis for the development of the climate-sensitive urban planning and urban design approach.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125936847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sense of smell produces permanent information in human memory depending on certain temporal and spatial factors. Place-making can be considered alert physical and mental relationships established with space, containing habits and subjectivities. In the context of place-making practices, experiencing a part of the city via smell-walking creates a smell topography. Even if the smells are the same, the smell topographies of the users produce subjective information for the same space. Questioning the subjective contribution of smell topographies to place-making constitutes the main issue of this study. Within the scope of the study, smell walks were carried out by different participants in Kadıköy Pier and Bazaar. One of the study results is that while smell topographies are the object of the place, it is also the subject of the place-making.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129802771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dominant hypothesis is the “penetration -physical and cultural- of the urban world into the rural world” (Guidicini, 1998). Nevertheless, many of the characteristics of rural construction are maintained in the cities, but with less concern for the quality of the environment and more attention to economic activities. This is evident in “informal” settlements, where one of the essential features is still self-build. This paper aims to contribute to the debate on eco-compatible requalification of “informal” housing by highlighting the collective force and the creative and participatory potential that “informal” architecture and its “popular” culture offer if combined with the scientific expertise of professional architects. In order to achieve this purpose, it is proposed to integrate two methodologies: Participatory-Action Research (PAR) and Human-Centred Design (HCD).","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115611311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This deltaic city’s water resources once played an essential role in structuring settlement patterns and keeping the overall hydrological, ecological, and environmental equilibrium. Eastern Fringe, the crucial natural, spontaneous territory of the Dhaka Metropolitan Area (DMA) to prevent the city’s flooding problems and environmental degradation, is rapidly converting from traditional homestead to urbanised land. The city’s present development activities for this part and the entire city do not respect this profound geo-morphological nature of the territory or consider the traditional land-water relationship with the settlement. This paper will analyse the land-use conversion in the study area, focusing on the land-water interface to identify the natural landscaped change for the built-up area. The article will first elaborate on the study area's enriched land-water system and its local integration in the land-water interface. It will also explain the importance of natural land-water resources for the city’s hydro-ecological. Finally, through ArcGIS and Google Earth Image analysis, it will discover the rapid loss of natural land-water resources, its process of conversion and associated environmental degradation due to land-cover alteration in the focus area. This paper will give the importance to reinstall the traditional land-water relationship in the rapidly growing urban areas to check environmental degradation.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123499216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is emblematic that the ancient sources do not speak of the Wonders of one civilisation or another; they speak of the Wonders of the World, making this one of the first examples of interculturality in which the protagonist is Man side by side with his History. In the contemporary world, where reference is made to belong to a common reality gravitating around the Mediterranean, we look for a “global” culture made of images that can express an idea of universality. The wonders of the world could be the key to recomposing under the common denominator of a glorious past, a fragmented reality, such as the Mediterranean one.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"748 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123869477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, another approach has surfaced in the form of informal temporary uses and is usually generated by the people. One of these is pop-up architecture being a medium of expression and public engagement between people and a mean of satisfying certain needs within the city and informal development in an impermanent way. The paper shows the dichotomy between theory and practice regarding the planning process and how in practice, temporary uses are essential to a city’s urban fabric and its development—focusing on the urban voids as the main catalyst for temporary uses. More emphasis is then on pop-up cultures, how they act as a form of informal city regeneration within the formal system and contemplate the relationship between users and space with essential regard to time.","PeriodicalId":433474,"journal":{"name":"SPACE International Journal of Space Studies in Architecture and Urban Design","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123342374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
