The paper helps to investigate the propagation behaviour of the AE waves at the interface of two different media namely oil and steel. Reflection, refraction and scattering of the PD shock waves are simulated and displayed. The initial results show that the signals as expected can alter significantly based on the properties of the oil and the steel. The Partial Differential Equations (PDE) describing the signals have been solved using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Through studying the theoretical aspects of PD AE signals, researchers and practitioners will better understand the properties and characteristic of PD experimental and practical high voltage equipment signatures e.g. power transformers.","PeriodicalId":433452,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE GCC Conference (GCC)","volume":"258 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121482758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we first illustrate the Shapiro algorithm (EZW). In second, we combine the discrete cosine transform (DCT) with an embedded zerotree quantizer in order to obtain the Xiong et al. algorithm (EZDCT). Our aim is to improve the bit rate gotten by EZDCT algorithm while changing the resolution level and to make a comparison with the EZW algorithm. The experiments show that the DCT-based embedded image coder gives higher peak signal-to-noise (PSNR) than Joint Photographic Expert Group (JPEG) and almost similar than Shapiro's EZW coder. It proposes to use stages with asymmetric lumped elements (inductances and capacitances) in the gate and drain circuits of the amplifier instead of symmetric elements in order to control the frequency response and to achieve a flat gain over a large bandwidth. The need for impedance matching problems is also solved. Simulation result obtained demonstrates that the new design gives better frequency response as compared to the conventional distributed amplifiers even without optimization.","PeriodicalId":433452,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE GCC Conference (GCC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115959269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fields inside and outside the dielectric layer are expressed in terms of Mathieu functions. No matrix inversion is required after obtaining expressions for the radiated field expansion coefficients by imposing the appropriate boundary conditions. The investigations study the effect of using various mixing parameter (λ) and step-size (μ) on the performance of the proposed algorithm in terms of mean-square error (MSE) and bit-error-rate (BER). Computer simulation results indicate that LMMN with lamda (K) equals 0.9 and step-size (μ) equals 5×10-3 give the best performance. Moreover it is demonstrated that non-linear receivers adapted by the proposed algorithm have faster convergence rate and similar BER performance, in comparison with the NLMS adaptive receiver.","PeriodicalId":433452,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE GCC Conference (GCC)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116997257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In traditional EV-DO system forward link scheduling, proportional fair (PF) algorithm is used, which doesn't consider QoS like delay and loss, so it can't work when different QoS requirement users are waiting to be served by the same AN(Access Network). To solve this problem, in the latest release of EV-DO specification, a Multi-User packet (MUP) scheme is introduced. Security layer Packets from different ATs (Access Terminal) can be packed into a same MAC layer packet and then be transmitted to the physical layer, however, when should AN use MUP and how to schedule different users to fill this MUP is a problem. A proper scheduling algorithm must be used to optimize system performance. In this paper, we propose a forward link scheduling algorithm supporting the MUP scheme and show performance of EV-DO system under this scheduler.","PeriodicalId":433452,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE GCC Conference (GCC)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117203609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem is investigated according to several conditions. For this purpose, we investigated the effect of the spectral resolution in speaker identification performance. During this research work, we implemented a statistical approach based on second order statistical measures and using the normalised Mel-spectral energies (MFSC). In order to find the optimal spectral resolution, in microphonic and telephonic bandwidth, we tested several dimensions for the MFSC vector (Normalised Mel energies) ranging from 12 to 60 and several types of additive noise (white noise, car noise and racket noise) at several SNR ratios. Results show that the optimal spectral dimension depends on the experimental conditions. So, we noticed the importance of the high spectral resolution of 60 coefficients / 8 kHz for the [0-8 kHz] bandwidth and the resolution of 48 coefficients / 8 kHz for the [0.3-3.4 kHz] bandwidth (especially in noisy environment), whereas the actual works have always favoured resolutions less than 24 coefficients in such tasks. For example, we note an improvement of about 11% in the recognition score, since we increase the resolution from 24 to 48 MFSC for the telephonic bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":433452,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE GCC Conference (GCC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126900438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
