In such a dymica network environment, development of robust and self-adaptive network selection mechanisms is required to satisfy the growing demand on ubiquitous network access. Besides, the energy consumed at wireless interface accounts for the great proportion of the total energy consumption of user devices and the battery lifetime has become a important factor affecting quality of experience (QoE). Hence in this paper, we propose an adaptive network selection approach where each user autonomously choose desired wireless network interface that offers the best energy-quality tradeoff. For this purpose, we adopt an attractor selection model, which is developed from autonomous and adaptive behavior of biological systems. The high adaptability to fluctuating network environment and the simple control rules allow users to dynamically select the best network that provide satisfactory QoE while achieve a acceptable device battery lifetime.","PeriodicalId":433422,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile (APWiMob)","volume":"55 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114092627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the very challenging WBN device developed is specifically applied for fetal monitoring. The designed fetal monitoring was intended for specifically applied to suitable utilized by the risk pregnant woman who has the difficult access to the hospital. Despite the many risk factors existed during the pregnancy the constructed UWB fetal monitoring system is designed to capable for sensing the fetus heart rate variability, the fetus growth and its contraction. The numerical evaluation performed was mainly focused to assess the electrical properties of the designed UWB transducer to meet the technical specification required. In practice, the transducer is in the form of patch antenna structure. The antenna was designed using the basic structure of dielectric/ substrate which consists of FR4- Epoxy material, top conducting radiator and ground. This antenna is connected by edge feeding technique that set SMA connector on the side of the dielectric material. A number of significant electrical properties improvements of the designed UWB patch transducer were found during the numerical computing stage including the radiator/transducer pattern, the S11, VSWR, and the gain. Through the numerical assessment it is clearly shown that the return loss (S11) is very excellent to reach the value of approximately -35 dB. Considering the S11 boundary of -10 dB value the constructed RF-waves radiating transducer is working well at the frequency range from 1.3 GHz up to 4.1 GHz (equal to the bandwidth 2.8 GHz). The best VSWR value obtained during the RF transducer numerical design is approximately 1.12. The gain achieved is 2.61 dB. The advanced fetal monitoring development will also utilizes the incorporation of the robust image processing technique to plot the woman pregnancy indicators on the display unit.","PeriodicalId":433422,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile (APWiMob)","volume":"25 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116637814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to energy efficiency, clustering has been widely used in WSNs, where each cluster head (CH) is a manager to control its members and collect sensed data from them. Currently, various CH selection techniques have been proposed. However, less emphasis was placed on the CH selection considering the application constraints. In order to make the network as efficient as possible, this paper proposes an efficient CH selection approach called ECHS for target tracking sensor networks. ECHS selects nodes on the edge of a cluster as CHs instead of selecting CH at the center of a cluster in traditional clustering approaches. In this way, CHs utilize their energy efficiently because CHs take two roles which are manager and detecting nodes. Moreover, in ECHS, nodes take the role of CH with different times according to their location and residual energy to balance the energy cost in the whole network. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.","PeriodicalId":433422,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile (APWiMob)","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132721615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, smallholder farmers, who provide 80% of the food supply in Asia and Africa are the most vulnerable, as access to information is most difficult for them. The connected crop solution for smallholder farmers provides personalized crop advices, optimum usage of fertilizers and pesticides at the right time, and the knowledge to apply those by connecting field agents, agro-input companies, and farmers, resulting in increased crop yield. The application on the mobile device provides personalized advisories with data on the Cloud and connects the producers to labs, agents, nutrient suppliers, insect control suppliers and others. A rule-based, contextual recommendation engine turns a generalist field agent into a knowledge worker. At the same time, the system drives a rigorous sales process for the agro-input companies through their field agent's mobile device, prompting the agent to gather information from the farmer and deliver advice to the farmer at critical points in the crop growth cycle. The solution addresses the needs of the three stakeholders in rural agriculture - field agent, agro-input company, and farmer, significantly improve agent productivity, product sales, and farmer crop yield respectively. A six-month field trial conducted by Accenture Technology Labs with a large agro input company in five districts of Karnataka, India, resulted in an average of 15% increase in crop yields, with improvements for some cash crops exceeding 30%. The field agent productivity also doubled during this period with a 56% y-o-y sales increase for the agro-input company.","PeriodicalId":433422,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile (APWiMob)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121973034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Implementing a network coding (NC) with TCP (TCP/NC) helps prevent this performance degradation by introducing lost packet recovery capability without retransmission at a sink by sending redundant combination packets encoded at the source. TCP/NC can recover random lost packets. However, TCP/NC is less effective when burst packet losses occur because it requires packet retransmission and the retransmission mechanism of the standard TCP/NC entirely relies on the TCP layer. To improve the goodput of a system, we propose a new mechanism in the NC layer called forward retransmission that can retransmit more than one lost packet simultaneously and efficiently. We simulated the proposed mechanism using Network Simulator 3. The results demonstrate that the proposed scheme improves the goodput of a system compared with the standard TCP/NC and TCP NewReno in a burst loss channel.","PeriodicalId":433422,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile (APWiMob)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114174764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance of adaptive communications in time-varying channels is affected significantly by the SNR estimation accuracy. In this paper, the new methods of SNR estimation for PSK and QAM are proposed. The methods are based on maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) using the probability density function (pdf) of received signal envelope, and are used in unknown signal power conditions without the carrier synchronization. The proposed methods are shown to estimate SNR efficiently by numerical results of normalized mean square error (NMSE) of SNR.","PeriodicalId":433422,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile (APWiMob)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121698511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, seamless connection between these technologies play important role as the performance indicator. In this paper, we consider the user's velocity and channel holding time to predict the user's dwelling time in the WLAN area to assist in the initial network selection. If the expected completion time is lower than the predictive travelling time within the coverage area, together with the load and service characteristics, the algorithm will select WLAN instead of cellular network. Based on the discrete-event simulation, the results show that the proposed solution has better performance as compared to the location-based (WLAN First) and mobility threshold proposals.","PeriodicalId":433422,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile (APWiMob)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129943515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some of cryptography that has been proposed such as DES, 3DES, and AES use mathematical operation to scramble block or part of block message to encrypt. The important thing to secure message in cryptography is a key. They use variable fixed-length of key to keep the security of message. We propose novel method of cryptography, “Horse Step Algorithm”. Such algorithm exploits 2 dimensional matrix for scrambling message bit by bit. We propose two kind of keys to make it more secure. The key that we are proposing are flexible and very easy to make which can be in the form of numbers, texts, or sentences. It is very easy to make a key. By implementing this algorithm, we get flexibility of the key and excellent security. In Analysis we compare it with RSA, DES, 3DES and AES algorithm.","PeriodicalId":433422,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Wireless and Mobile (APWiMob)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130121214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
