When applying statistical methods to analyse the microarray data, particular care is required to deal with problem such as the low classification accuracy of models brought about by the small number of features that have predictive capability. To overcome these problems, proper approaches for data normalisation, feature reduction, and identifying the optimal set of genes are critical. In this paper, we apply the Gene Feature Ranking [5] method to select genes with high trust values from high dimensional cancer microarray datasets. Our contribution lies in the use of a different metric for calculating the trust values that are more domain specific for cancer datasets. By choosing a pre-defined threshold based on user's knowledge, only genes that show sufficient trustworthiness to be considered for constructing the classification model are retained. Through experimentation on three microarray datasets, namely Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), lymph node negative primary breast cancer, and High Grade Glioma, we are able to confirm that the classification accuracy obtained by the genes selected by the modified GFR method is consistently higher than when the method was not used.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126603519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It plays an important role in research in the fields of microbiology and biotechnology in India. Due to the importance of IMTECH, we decided to study its academic scientific output in the Web of Science during the years 1991–2010. This paper is an informetric analysis of 902 papers published by the scientists and researchers at the CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh, from 1991 to 2010, downloaded from the institute's website as well from science citation index-extended version (Web of Science) of the Thomson Scientific. There is no doubt that collaboration is a common phenomenon in research. This paper examined the collaborative strength and patterns of authorship among the CSIR-IMTECH scientists/researchers, covering a period of 20 years. The results of the data were analysed based on the number of articles published per year, pattern of authorship and the collaborative degree and strength of authors. The study shows that majority of the scientists preferred to publish research papers in joint authorship. Out of 902 articles, 753 (83.48%) were joint works, while only 149 (16.51%) were single-author works. The degree of author's collaboration was also calculated to be 0.83, while the mean numbers of single-author and joint authored articles were 7.45 and 37.65, respectively.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122326710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The impact of increasing prices of monographs and foreign exchange conversion rates on the acquisitions were estimated. The annual increase of prices, their dispersion and consistency over the period were examined by applying reliable statistical methods. The average increase of prices was compared with the Indian inflation. Finally, price index numbers were compiled to find out the real increase of prices among the subjects. The results of the study indicate that no uniform policy was adopted in spending the budget amount for each discipline. The impact of increasing prices of monographs is very high on acquisitions and the foreign exchange conversion rates had very little influence on the prices of monographs. Overall, the prices of monographs increased by almost two to three times over the Indian inflation. The price index numbers also showed an increase of two to three times over the base year. Whereas the budget has decreased by six to eight times during the period of study.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122680905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, patients may be treated in different hospitals, and therefore, there is a need for integrating health records from different hospitals to enable any hospital to obtain a total overview of a patient's health-history. Two different types of heterogeneity problem have to be solved in order to integrate EHR systems from different hospitals in a consistent way. The first problem is that different hospitals normally do not use a common DBMS (Data Base Management System) system and therefore, the traditional ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation and Durability) properties are missing across the different hospital locations. The second heterogeneity problem is that there are different incompatible standards on how to make EHR registrations. The objective of this paper is to describe and evaluate different EHR database designs for storing more or less incompatible health records from different hospitals.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128453272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
