In this preceding study, we dealt with the case where the underlying systems are affected by polytopic-type uncertainties and revealed a particular periodically time-varying dynamical controller (PTVDC) structure that allows LMI-based robust stabilizing controller synthesis. Based on these preliminary results, in this paper, we provide LMI conditions for robust H2 and H¿ PTVDC synthesis. One of the salient features of the proposed method is that we can reduce the conservatism and improve the control performance gradually by increasing the period of the controller to be designed. In addition, we prove rigorously that the proposed design method encompasses the well-known extended-LMI-based design methods as particular cases. Through numerical experiments, we illustrate that our design method is indeed effective to achieve less conservative results under both the periodic and time-invariant settings.","PeriodicalId":433215,"journal":{"name":"2008 47th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124723383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the literature of control applications, model-based control methods to boost the immune system by means of drug scheduling have been reported. The control purpose is to steer the system to an equilibrium condition, known as long-term nonprogressor, which corresponds to an infected patient that does not develop the symptoms of acquired immune deficiency syndrome. In this paper we investigate methods to estimate the state of the immune system based on the available outputs of the HIV model. A nonlinear observer is designed and an approximate observer is also given. Computer simulations are presented to show the feasibility of the estimation methodology.","PeriodicalId":433215,"journal":{"name":"2008 47th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130272298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm quantifies the importance of each Web page based on the link structure of the Web. In this two-part paper, we first provide an overview of the original problem setup. Most of the previously proposed models are based on pseudospectral approaches and are valid only for a single spatial wave number. In this work we propose a new model which is based on a finite difference approach in streamwise direction and a spectral approach in wall normal direction. The model obtained is valid for all spatial frequencies and can be used for the synthesis of controllers for flow control problems, using some recently developed ideas for spatially interconnected systems. Since these controllers are designed in physical domain they are simple to implement using MEMS arrays. The model is compared with results obtained with previously proposed models and is found to be in good agreement with them. To illustrate its usefulness, a stabilizing dynamic output feedback controller is designed for a Reynolds number of 6000.","PeriodicalId":433215,"journal":{"name":"2008 47th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126756185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the suspension system is to improve passenger comfort and road holding during travel and improve safety during various maneuvers. In the modeling the nonlinearities of the suspension system, the changes in the forward velocity and the change of the adhesion coefficient between the tire and the road are taken into consideration. The effects of the longitudinal or lateral load transfers during maneuvers or abrupt hard brakings are monitored in order to reduce their harmful effects on handling and comfort. When a fault (loss in effectiveness) occurs at one of the suspension actuators a reconfiguration is required in order to guarantee fault-tolerant operation. The design of the proposed reconfiguration and fault-tolerant control is based on an H¿ linear parameter varying (LPV) method that uses monitored scheduling variables of the travel.","PeriodicalId":433215,"journal":{"name":"2008 47th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126769129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
