Three population-based metaheuristics were selected: Genetic Algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the method of cross entropy (CE). The algorithms associated with each metaheuristic were developed in MatLab, together with the code that allows making simulations as case studies, evaluating the performance of each algorithm on different simulated processes. Finally an implementation was performed in a physical controller (PLC) connected to a physical process, in order to compare the performance of the PID parameters obtained by the Metaheuristics versus traditional tuning methods. The results show that the use of metaheuristics to optimize PID controllers allow to obtain a control efficiency comparable or superior to conventional techniques.","PeriodicalId":432676,"journal":{"name":"2016 35th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"16 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120918416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model uses context awareness to manage and monitor corporate assets in companies with multiple units. ACMA offers a centralized point of access in the cloud in which administrators can get online data about each asset from all companied previously registered in the system. Considering the eventual huge amount of data from sensors at each company, our differential approach consists in considering network congestion to control the data updating interval in the path from companies to the cloud. The idea is to search for reliability and integrity of network operations, without losing or corrupting data when updating the data to the cloud. Thus, this article describes the ACMA model, its architecture and algorithms. We developed a prototype that put in a clear way the benefits of using adaptivity on transferring RFID data to the cloud.","PeriodicalId":432676,"journal":{"name":"2016 35th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124111310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rationale behind it is that by automatically finding the pulses which better characterizes the bird vocalization, one can avoid a significant amount of manual work maintaining good accuracy rates in classification problems. In order to test the automatic segmentation performance, we made experiments using dataset, features, and classification scheme already used in a previous work. For this, the original audio signal was converted to spectrogram images. Considering that the main visual content present in this kind of image is the texture, we used three texture operators well-known in image processing literature: Local Binary Pattern, Local Phase Quantization, and Gabor filters. The obtained results showed that the automatic segmentation allows to get recognition rates equal or even better than those obtained with manual segmentation.","PeriodicalId":432676,"journal":{"name":"2016 35th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"284 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122969602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This adaptive module redefines the learning style that has the student, in order to improve his academic performance in the platform. The learning style of the students is very important in this platform, because it defines the profile of the educational resources to be proposed to the students. The learning style defines the activities, tools and evaluations that must have the educational resources, to carry out the learning process more successful. The adaptive module carries out the automatic reconfiguration of the learning style assigned to a student, once evaluated its performance in the different courses that the student has taken so far. To assign a new style of learning, the module takes into account the academic performance of the student. If this is low, it calculates and assigns a new style. The initial learning style of the students is defined using the Felder-Silverman test. Then, this module is invoked interactively each time is finished a scholar period.","PeriodicalId":432676,"journal":{"name":"2016 35th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126557738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper identifies the powerful benefits and the application areas of Big Data in the on-line education context. Considering the boom of academic services on-line, and the free access to the educative content, a great amount of data is being generated in the formal educational field as well as in less formal contexts. In this sense, Big Data can help stakeholders, involved in education decision making, to reach the objective of improving the quality of education and the learning outcomes. In this paper, a methodology is proposed to process big amounts of data coming from the educational field. The current study ends with a specific case study where the data of a well-known Ecuadorian institution that has more than 80 branches is analyzed.","PeriodicalId":432676,"journal":{"name":"2016 35th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125555239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This kind of decision allows to software architect select alternatives (architecture tactics) and software components when a stakeholders requirement is demanded. However, there is no framework that conducts the appropriate selection of software components using architectural tactics. This article describes the selection of COMPonents using ArChitectural Tactics (COMPACT), a framework to evaluate off-the-shelf components from non-functional requirements (NFRs). COMPACT contains a scenarios/tactics schema based on utility trees to suggest tactics according to NFRs and a collaborative component search. We used the framework in a real situation regarding to health-care industry project, obtaining components assemblies that satisfy the stake holders requirements, and also providing additional points of views, not initially considered by the stakeholders. Our framework helps software architects to achieve better alternatives to consider when evaluating components.","PeriodicalId":432676,"journal":{"name":"2016 35th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134254222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, some characteristics of programs still pose significant challenges to test data generation techniques that use symbolic execution and constraint solving. These challenges present themselves in the form of path explosion, constraint complexity, dependency, and exception-dependent paths. The few studies conducted to date to examine the distribution of such characteristics only investigate them separately. We posit that understanding how the combination of these characteristics appear in real world software may provide a more in-depth knowledge of the limitations of current tools and test data generation techniques. Thus, we analyzed a benchmark comprising 100 open source Java programs to get some insight into the frequency of methods that have combinations of the studied characteristics and the distribution of methods whose path constraints share similar structures.","PeriodicalId":432676,"journal":{"name":"2016 35th International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society (SCCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129432800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
