New workers for nomads need to be able to persevere and, eventually, thrive in the face of these challenges. This article explores the views of 37 missionaries to nomads concerning how best to prepare new workers. It outlines the major initial challenges new workers face and presents the personal characteristics that may promote success. The particular qualities, skills, and knowledge that experienced workers recommend for novices and how these could be developed are explained. There is a strong emphasis on learning by immersion, with experienced missionaries and local people walking alongside to help new workers. Just as ministry among nomads must be holistic, training for workers to nomads should holistically integrate spiritual, character, relational, skill, and knowledge development.","PeriodicalId":43205,"journal":{"name":"Missiology-An International Review","volume":"52 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136158686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Strife and violence exist between ethnic/religious factions and brutal blasphemy laws are increasing. Floundering economies, refugees on the run, women leading protests, and Islamic radicals wreaking havoc fill the news. Amid great instability, some are leaving Islam as atheists, secularists, or nones, but many are finding their way to Christ. Building on the author’s personal research on how extremist Islam has caused some Pakistani Muslims to come to Christ, this study suggests a similar pattern in Iran, Afghanistan, and beyond. The author believes we are seeing the beginning of a great harvest among Muslims, but that Christians need fresh vision and special commitment to reach them with the gospel.","PeriodicalId":43205,"journal":{"name":"Missiology-An International Review","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2023-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81572460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of these children are known as third culture kids (TCK), who have grown up in multiple countries. This term was coined by Ruth Useem in the 1950s but attracted more attention in the 1970s when David Pollock and Ruth Van Reken conducted seminars and workshops about TCK. They found that TCKs had similar issues such as rootlessness even though the countries they had been to were different. TCKs became a unique people group that breaks the normal boundaries of cultural and ethnic boxes. However, in recent years, children of expatriates from minority communities in the West or the Majority World have been raising concerns that their experiences growing up in global transit are different from the traditional TCK narratives due to classism and racism. This article seeks to examine the different experiences of non-white TCKs growing up and bringing voices to their untold stories as part of the larger set of TCK issues. TCKs are not a homogenous group. There is a need to have more voices from non-white TCKs to care for this growing trend of global mobile families from the Majority World/Global South. Non-white TCKs face different kinds of complexity in cultural identities as they move between countries. Race, ethnicity, nationality, language/accent, education system, family culture, moving portfolio, and socio-economic status are all factors affecting the TCK experience according to the cultural hierarchy in the locations they are in. International organizations should consider the unique stories of non-white TCKs to help their workers serve effectively in their overseas assignments and return to their countries with smooth re-entry.","PeriodicalId":43205,"journal":{"name":"Missiology-An International Review","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87734942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
