However, in order to maintain connectivity of the sensors involved in the application, namely application-member sensors, other so called non-application-member sensors, have to participate in the communications to assist in the message exchanges in the network. On the one hand, the application-member sensors have the objective of a fast convergence, i.e., only a small number of communications should be performed until all measurement data are aggregated at application-member sensors. On the other hand, only few non-application-member sensors should participate in the communications and only a small number of communications should be carried out by those who participate in. We propose a refined randomized gossip protocol based on our previous work to address the two mentioned problems. The results show that with the proposed approach the number of involved non-application-member sensors as well as the number of communications performed by the involved non-application-member sensors are both significantly reduced compared to the approach in our previous work.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121241156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, CoMP with coordinated beamforming (CB), which requires only channel state information sharing on the backhaul among the base stations (BSs), provides a good tradeoff between performance and complexity. In this work we consider CoMP-CB in downlink HetNets and we study two precoding schemes: with precoder 1 (P1) signal to leakage plus noise ratio (SLNR) beamforming is applied by all the BSs within the coordination cluster, whereas with precoder 2 (P2) only the macro BSs apply SLNR beamforming. By comparing three different static clustering solutions, we evaluate the proposed schemes in terms of both the achievable rate and the back-haul/feedback load. Numerical results show that the proposed CoMP-CB schemes outperform eICIC by providing a gain up to 25%. Moreover, P2 provides rates close to the ones achieved by P1, but with an important backhaul and feedback load saving.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125096914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By processing the LTE-Advanced waveforms in the time domain (instead of the more common baseband), we describe the underlying system model and the associated simulation setup in detail. The error performance of the system is evaluated under different physical layer parameters and CA scenarios, according to the latest updates of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) technical specifications. Our analysis reveals that the Heterogeneous Band (HetBand) non-contiguous CA technology can be efficiently applied to the design of next generation mobile broadband networks, given that the exploitation of both unlicensed and frequency dispersed bands might be a promising solution against the spectrum scarcity.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114409761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the heart of CRNs is the cognitive engine (CE), which is responsible for decision making on the optimal configuration settings for the CRN in real time if possible. In this paper a novel paradigm for decision making in the CE will be presented called hierarchical random neural networks (HRNNs). The proposed HRNN model decomposes a large complex neural network into a network of loosely interconnected localized subnets, which allow the simplified understanding of network behaviour and also allows the addition of more nodes for long-term memory (LTM). The model can also accurately capture the dynamic nature of the system. Simulation results of the proposed HRNN structure has shown improvements in learning efficiency (based on required execution time for convergent result) in the range of 33% to 35% with reduced computations.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114438448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A distributed multiple relay selection scheme is proposed for the secondary transmission. Since the secondary source does not fully control the selection but lets each secondary relay decide by itself, it doesn't know which and how many relays will participate in the forwarding. This brings a serious uncertainty in the number of forwarding relays. We analyze this uncertainty and derive the closed-form expression of the outage probability of the secondary transmission under the uncertainty. Finally, we evaluate the proposed relay selection scheme by means of simulation. The simulation shows the appropriateness of our analytical model. In addition, although having lower interference constraint at each relay, the performances of the proposed multi-relay CRN scheme are shown to be strictly superior to the single relay CRN. Moreover, the simulation results suggest that it is necessary to spend the general overhead for secondary networks on knowing the exact QoS requirement of the primary user (i.e. the interference violation probability) to apply our proposed relay selection scheme with the statistical total interference constraint.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114466330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Network controlled access network selection between cellular and WLAN is an essential functionality to optimize network performance and user experience. Automated configuration and optimisation of the network selection mechanism is of utmost importance in the emerging complex heterogeneous networks. In this article, we present and evaluate a Self-Organizing Network (SON) scheme for optimizing autonomously the access network selection between the Long Term Evolution (LTE) and WLAN systems. The adopted access network selection mechanism uses the standard LTE Received Reference Signal Power (RSRP) measurements available at the User Equipment (UE) and a set of simple rules based on network-provided RSRP thresholds. The proposed SON mechanism is using the LTE cell load estimated at the evolved NodeB (eNB) to update the RSRP thresholds in order to achieve the best load balancing in the network. Simulation results in a realistic network highlight the benefits of the proposed SON mechanism and possible further improvements.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121863243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We apply zero forcing (ZF) precoding to reduce interference between the users in the same cell and then propose iterative distributed power allocation algorithm for the users with high signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) to reduce the interference between BSs. In order to perform distributed RA for MISO-OFDMA multicell systems, the channel state information (CSI) of all required links are fed back to all base stations. However, the feedback load increases with the number of users, base stations, subcarriers and antennas. Therefore, we propose a user selection algorithm at the receiver side to reduce the feedback load while providing CSI of the users with high SINR at the BSs. The performance results of the proposed algorithms are illustrated for multicell MISO-OFDMA systems in wireless channels.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122034645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ranging algorithm we developed in [1] is utilized by adapting superresolution techniques to the ranging problem, using phase-difference of arrival (PDoA). The algorithm handles multipoint ranging efficiently by employing an orthogonalized non-uniform sampling scheme optimized via Golomb rulers designed using the genetic algorithm we presented in [2]. Finally, Cramér-Rao lower bounds (CRLBs) analysis of the Golomb-optimized multipoint ranging and target localization are performed with comparisons against simulation results validating the proposed techniques.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124731572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, a larger part of the traffic is generated by applications that require high data rates. Techniques including Coordinated Multipoint transmission (CoMP) can increase the data rates, but at the cost of a high overhead. The overhead can be reduced if only a subset of the users is served with CoMP. In this paper, we propose a user selection approach, including pre-selection of CoMP users and short term scheduling, that takes user requirements into account. Users that require a high data rate to reach an acceptable level of service satisfaction are selected to use coherent joint processing CoMP in some of their downlink transmission bandwidth. Simulation results show that both the number of satisfied users and fairness are improved with the proposed user selection as compared to user selection that does not consider individual user requirements.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114682674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, SDM is gradually becoming a fundamental part of modern telecommunications aiming to provide higher transmission rates that are both error-free and inexpensive. So far, engineers considered packing and operating the many different laser as the biggest problem, but as it seems, the crosstalking phenomenon between the various in-fiber propagating modes creates a great barrier, which needs sophisticated methods to overcome, such as MIMO techniques, which are well known in the wireless field. In this paper, we analyze real data from multimode optical fibers and find that crosstalk seems to be significant. If this is the case, the reception can be problematic without MIMO techniques.","PeriodicalId":431852,"journal":{"name":"2014 11th International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS)","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132546738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
