In terms of number, size, and magnitude, this national catastrophe is historically unprecedented. With other Burmese, Christians have resisted the junta, primarily because, after enduring over half a century of viciousness under military rule, they cannot think of a future without democracy and freedom. This crisis also reveals that nonviolent resistance has failed and armed resistance becomes indispensable if the Burmese want a future without military tyranny. Unlike the early Korean churches, the lack of contextual understanding is taking a toll on the growth of today’s urban church. To help urban churches better interact with their context, this article explores some insights from three disciplines of urbanology. Dudley Woodberry as an exemplar of scholarly evangelical engagement with Islam while suggesting some limitations of his approach for mission today. After a brief sketch of Woodberry’s earliest steps into scholarship, the article locates his contributions to Islamic Studies against the backdrop of developments in the field with specific attention paid to his engagement with lived Islam. It then interacts with responses to Woodberry’s work and reassesses its relevance for Christian mission among Muslims at present. Further, it is probable that religious utterances will affect adherents’ responses to real-life situations. With the aid of speech-act theory, this article investigates how religious utterances used by church leaders in framing public discourse modified some social perceptions of Christians during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research shows the impacts and limitations of speech-act theory concerning the influence of church leaders over their adherents during the COVID-19 era. It includes extensive demographic data from the World Christian Database (Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), twenty-nine chapters on US regions, ethnic groups, ecclesiastical traditions, and specific themes (such as Faith and Culture, Theology, Immigration and Xenophobia, Media)—with some of these chapters including comparisons with the material presented in the six chapters devoted to Canada, St. Pierre and Miquelon, Greenland, and Bermuda. Sawai Chinnawong uses a traditional Thai art form, while Arnan Moontrakorn utilizes an amalgamated approach to Thai and Modern art. Jompol Puatawee, while using Thai imagery in his contemporary art style, does not reference traditional symbols. The artists featured, while all representing their Christian faith, do not use obvious Christian symbolism.
