This paper proposes a new system design strategy for dissemination of high fidelity applications. We propose to use static and dynamic data flow analysis on Android applications to detect about how the apps leverage users'/enterprises' sensitive data. Also, we plan to build up a cloud-based back-end to safeguard mobile devices. The new secure system framework will not only analyze an individual app isolatedly, but also analyze the correlation between apps.","PeriodicalId":430425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 companion publication for conference on Systems, programming, & applications: software for humanity","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133581029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is challenging, however, to predict the application's performance in terms of latencies, throughput, and resource usage because diverse combinations of QoS configurations influence QoS of applications in different ways. To overcome this problem, design-time formal methods have been applied with mixed success, but a lack of sufficient accuracy in prediction, tool support, and understanding of formalism has prevented wider adoption of the formal techniques. A promising approach to address this challenge is to emulate application behavior and gather data on the QoS parameters of interest by experimentation. To realize this approach, we have developed a middleware framework that uses model-driven generative mechanisms to automate performance testing of a large number of DDS QoS configuration combinations that can be deployed and tested on a cloud platform.","PeriodicalId":430425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 companion publication for conference on Systems, programming, & applications: software for humanity","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129201508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, software developers should be able to simultaneously reason about and handle the concerns of distribution, fault-tolerance, and energy efficiency. Being closely intertwined, these concerns can introduce significant complexity into the design and implementation of modern software. Thus, to develop reliable and energy efficient applications, software developers must understand how distribution, fault-tolerance, and energy efficiency interplay with each other and how to implement these concerns while keeping the complexity in check. This paper studies these concerns and their interaction; it also develops novel approaches, techniques, and tools that effectively fuse and separate these concerns as required by particular software development scenarios.","PeriodicalId":430425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 companion publication for conference on Systems, programming, & applications: software for humanity","volume":"509 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115890003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, often these systems are too complex for a given problem. Their usefulness is outweighed by the difficulty of learning a new tool or translating results into computer-readable form. I describe tools developed in Prolog to partially characterize the shuffle-inclusion problem. These tools allowed for rapid development of proofs with little intellectual overhead. While focused around a specific problem, the techniques described are general, and well suited to many problems on discrete structures.","PeriodicalId":430425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 companion publication for conference on Systems, programming, & applications: software for humanity","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125876046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But if you need to deploy a complex software, with many components and a lot users, you will need have a mix of cloud services in PaaS, SaaS and IaaS layers. You will also need knowledge in architecture patterns to make all these software components communicate accordingly. In this article, we share our experience of using cloud services to scale a web application. We show usage examples of load balancing, session sharing, e-mail delivery, asynchronous processing, logs processing, monitoring, continuous deployment, realtime user monitoring (RUM). These are a mixture of development and system operations (DevOps) that improved our application availability, scalability and performance.","PeriodicalId":430425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 companion publication for conference on Systems, programming, & applications: software for humanity","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125176778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Members that are obsolete are marked as deprecated and new members are added. We deal with the problem of migration from deprecated members to their replacement.
