However, in any computer system, it is software that directs much of the activity of the hardware. Moreover, multicore processors have become ubiquitous, mainly because their multiple benefits, especially enhanced performance for multi-threaded and compute-intensive applications. Nonetheless, there are few studies addressing the topic of restructuring multicore applications to consume less energy and even fewer that leverage developer expertise to achieve that goal. In this thesis we present a brief background study for refactoring multicore applications in order to improve both performance and energy consumption. The idea consists in proposing a catalog of refactorings targeting some languages of the JVM platform.","PeriodicalId":430425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 companion publication for conference on Systems, programming, & applications: software for humanity","volume":"10 S3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120852857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike other Unified Modeling Language (UML) based tools, it comprehensively supports implementation. Instantiable object diagrams eliminate the need for start-up code, both for domain model structures and the user interface. Objektgraph enables a complete model-view-controller (MVC) based application with model persistence to be developed entirely with diagrams: no conventional coding is required, although it is supported. The motivation for developing Objektgraph was to support pedagogy, however it is robust and may prove useful in other contexts. Its goal is to simultaneously lower the frustration level and raise the level of abstraction to permit novices to experience what it might be like to have a career in software development.","PeriodicalId":430425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 companion publication for conference on Systems, programming, & applications: software for humanity","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129428030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
